Ignore probably works for a lot of people but it just depends on your habits and what threads you like to comment on.

In some cases a thread can be totally unreadable with certain people blocked and then it can feel like no matter what you do you can't escape the negativity.

Is the right answer to ignore the thread? Probably, but at the same time you could make an argument that if you can't get through a thread due to poster(s) basically ruling every post you visit then there's a good chance they are trolling/bullshitting/shit posting etc.

Him being banned is probably good for his mental health at times like these.

This guy came directly back from a ban, had 10 previous warnings per his ban message and proceeded to post this meltdown thread in gaming with NO repercussions:

You can either learn to engage in the conversation you feel that's effective, and hope that people can understand your message over time, or a various other amount of solutions I suppose

But this doesn't work when the other person blocks you. When people block each other or if one is blocked and then they try to engage in the conversation things are constantly lost.

It can be maddening. Not saying that this is what happened in this particular circumstance - I don't know - but I see it happen in other personal relationships. Buddhist and Christian philosophy is right when it warns that excessive attachment to materialism can be a pathway to suffering.

I could understand taking it personally if you were on the board of directors for one of these big companies; however, even they tend not to troll the press because someone dissed their product. I have the same amazement. Someone insults your parents, wife, kids...take it personally. Someone insults your video games? Laugh it off and walk away. I think the fact that we can laugh at each other adds back the human factor to GAF. Yet, many a curmudgeon will still have an idol finger over report of reply.

So I actually have been thinking about this ignore button thing. Would it be possible to request the feature when ignore is pressed it ignores both sides automatically? It might not seem necessary but removing the text form being visible by the person blocked would in my mind lead to better conversation flow and discourage banter that's not productive in many threads.

Maybe I'm crazy but it sounds good in my head.

I think the current ignore feature is a bit pointless because all it does is remove the posts of the person you ignore, they can still see your posts though, so they can be talking shit about your posts and you wont even realize.

If the ignore button worked where the ignored party can't see your posts, then you can talk shit too without them seeing it. The same problem persists regardless.

My advice is to bear the slings and arrows of life to your fullest extent.

From the standpoint of what an open forum is ideally supposed to represent, I think the base model should be as free as possible, with individuals choosing to limit what they can see, as it pertains to their own personal user experience. Once you start adding functionality that limits other users without their consent, things get tricky.
