Just swinging by to say we always monitor and keep an eye on threads like this, the meta-thread etc. While we did agree on the Geki-D ban length for a set time - we also acknowledge that both posts highlighted were made in a short space of time and in the same thread. Maybe this poster was having a particularly bad day. In light of the comments on this thread, the ban has been reviewed and reduced from one month to two weeks. This feels like a fair compromise considering the leniency we've afforded Geki-D in the past, which seems to have gone beyond a mutual level of respect and trust. There has been a clear pattern of a downwards spiral in some instances and this does need to be acknowledged and sanctioned for the good of the community.
We look forward to moving past this with Geki-D on their return

Not a fan of (actual) internet detective stuff myself, but isn't the context relevant here? Katsura was claiming Geki-D was lying when he said that Katsura was portraying his views as less harmful than the opposing views on gender & representation, which would require Geki-D to either accept being called a liar wrongfully or to provide evidence to his claim, which can only be supported by quotes that display that behaviour. The post before that, where he quoted old postings of Katsura, he was quoting discussions he recently had with Katsura, so no detective work required here. I can understand having issues with the tone, but Geki-D did not just dig up some dirt on someone to fling it at him, but merely provided evidence when challenged about his claims. How would you want him to react in the above situation going forward?That said, ifGeki-D pulls that internet detective smearing on anyone here again, it'll be an automatic perm.
And I assume the same also holds for all of us, right? Because to my best knowledge, this would be a new policy.

Now that there has been time for the dust to settle a bit, I would like to ask if Weilthain’s perm could be reviewed and possibly downgraded to 3 months or some other long temp ban. I know he continued with his bullshit after several warnings but apart from that one ridiculous topic, he’s a popular member and generally a good contributor. People aren’t perfect and many people who like to participate in internet discussions are also high on the intelligence/autism scale (often both). This can lead to some obsessive behaviours which are often irrational and annoying to others. However, I believe that we should try to understand and include these people and deal with their eccentricities in other ways. With Weilthain specifically, maybe it means a thread ban any time he tries to bring up flat earth. Just stop him in his tracks and maybe he will get the point eventually.

did to get banned, but all I can say is that for me, taking a step back and taking some self mandated time off helped me a lot.I don’t like seeing anyone get banned, and think everyone deserves extra chances.
