The way I see the timeline:

>Kadayi banned for two days, with a mod pat on the back and a cigar
>Strange becomes the Nelson Mandela of Neogaf dot com in response
>Kadayi goes into self-imposed further exile following that

Which is all completely absurd, and funny. No need to make anything more of it than that. : )

The mod team has a clear stance that the use of "faggot" in any sort of derogatory context is not okay. Kad knew this and still did it. Sad to see him cop a ban as he is normally a good poster. Regardless, the action was simply a slap on the wrist and shows the mods do not play favorites. Break the rules and you will be dealt with like anyone else.

Yeah I agree and therein lies the nuance. When a few of us were memeing “extreme faggotry”, the butt of the joke was the guy who got banned for reporting posts for extreme faggotry. It doesn’t mean there’s carte blanche to go around saying faggot. I suspect Kad meant it in the memey way but it wasn’t clear so he copped the ban. Whatever, we learn and move on.

Yeah, people should know that I’m no tree-hugger, but I have no problem with certain (very few) words being discouraged because they are just not necessary to use.

If you allow carte blanche then the place will likely devolve into Chan or Kiwi territory where nothing is off limits and that’s not always a good thing. Like, I can appreciate some of the aspects of a place like Kiwi (i.e holding hypocritical dickheads to account), but I don’t need to read the n-word or the f-word in every second post when I wanna talk about video games.
