Maybe someone will take you up on this as a good challenge/prompt.. so good luck! A lot of people here are more on the professional side and would want money for such a request though. lolI'm not sure if this is the right thread or not, I didn't see "no requests" in the rules. But I have a drawing request if someone is up for the task.
Looking for a drawing of a Female Togruta (white, blue striping) with a DLT-20A rifle with a hunter type look. I'd like to use it as my character portrait for a (pen and paper) Star Wars rpg I'll playing soon. I tried looking online for a usable portrait and all I can find are borderline porn drawings lol.

I love this and | always find these short times stated very frustrating. Fast artists love to state time taken. Amazing poses, interactions, and very slick inking.^ Oh, if I remember, I'll try! I still have a couple of things I have to get done before the deadline though, so we'll see.. (also.. I am not really a fanart portrait/celeb type of person. lol)
Newest thing!

About 45 minutes, maybe an hour, from reference
That's what I assumed, but wasn't sure. I stalk the thread and always see amazing art in here so figured someone may take it as a nice practice/warm up piece lol.
Personally, I haven't finished a piece in a while. I have a number of unfinished images I've spent too long on.

What's the difference between this thread and the Art Self Study one? Would studies like these be more appropriate over there?
I may consider doing this depending on when you need it by. I can only offer a sketch though.
What you not terrible at all, I wish i could make something close.I feel like I'm finally starting to realize that I'm terrible :|
Oh yeah, I more just choose one thread to spam.. and I guess this one is it!! (I stopped posting in Arts and Farts, for instance lol)DEATH;192212657 said:I'm jealous of that rendering skill. Teach me lol
The goal for the Art self study thread is to learn, so questions about art concepts, tools and books, and posting work with the goals of someone pointing out things you can improve on. That's the goal at least. While here you can post daily sketches, wips, scraps, etc.
That's the goal at least IMO. But I realized that each thread for some reason has different communities. I mean, you won't see Raging Spaniard posting on this thread and Art Self Study. C.B. and Prax resides here and Arts and Farts. Most of the professional/established artists here on GAF reside on those older threads while most of us learning still reside on Art Self Study.
I think that's an important step in getting better though! When you start seeing there's problems, it takes time for your skill and problem solving to catch up to where your brain has grown in "sophistication/taste" in a way.I feel like I'm finally starting to realize that I'm terrible :|

No worries if you don't find time (I completely understand). One minor detail change is the character's race is now Cathar (final decision on my part). The Cathar are a cat-like race in the star wars universe. There is no time constraint or anything like that, this was simply just a casual request, I would be forever grateful with just a simple sketch. I appreciate your response!

I think the self study thread is more for actual studies and critiques and I feel like I don't belong there because.. I am lazy.. and don't study.. >_> I more do whatever I want aimlessly most of the time and don't really actively look for critique while other people are more actively trying to improve.

So which part right now is making you feel most unsatisfied with your drawing? Just work on one issue at a time and you'll find yourself catching up to where you want to be.
As for me.. I am trying to watercolour again for the first time in like a decade and it's killing me because I can barely wait to let layers dry before trying to mess with it.. >_>
NSFW potentially. "tasteful nude", but you never know:

3 hours. I messed up on the background pretty badly so I took a permanent marker and blacked it all out.
I tried to be more patient with this one but.. I still mucked it up a bit. Luckily watercolour is kind of forgiving and you can "buff out" harsh wet edges or areas you don't like. However, it makes the piece lose a bit of the loose spontaneity that makes watercolour more "charming". You can compare how I tried to control the paint a lot more in the faces vs the orange scarf where it looks "jucier" and even nicer because I didn't care about it as much.

5 hours with me running around and trying to shower and make food to try to not touch it while it was still wet. I try to use white gouache both as a highlight and as a "corrector". lol
My thoughts are kind of the same on this as the others. I see the drawing a day thread as a place to post whatever you have drawn within the day, progress shots and whatever or general doodlings. Arts n Farts I post my finished pieces. I don't post in the study thread because I simply don't do very many exclusively study pieces these days. I should get into the habit of doing them though. But that thread seems more dedicated to honing ones skills.
send me a PM with the details and we can get the ball rolling. I like cats ʅʕᴥʔʃ.
Realising you're terrible also means you realise you can do better. Sad to say but the struggle is endless if you're wanting to pursue art as something to be good at. Accept that you'll always be looking miles ahead of the road from now on. The trick is to keep looking forward and never at your feet. You are making progress though!
I would post something but its not really worth it yet....

Dude, I think you just need to look at your drawing regimen. Most of your work was only done at front view, so not only you draw the same thing (which gives you bad habits if unattended), but only doing it front view do not help you to see your drawings as 3-dimensional.
One of the things you can do is to give your front view faces a bit more uptilt. Just make your head tilt a bit upward/downward. It will cause your construction lines to curve a bit which gives you a more 3D looking face compared to a straight on front view.
If you start to have problems with that, it's good! Just like C.B. said, struggle is endless in Art. (Thanks C.B. for saying this now, I'm a bit discouraged a bit myself lol).
Just to add, right now I'm struggling with drapes and color theory. I'm studying my multiple clothing/drapery figure drawing books and fashion illustration books while taking pics of random people for clothes refs (creepy I know, sorry). I also went far to still program a VBA spreadsheet just to understand blending modes! While with that, I also figuring out a proper workflow for myself by watching various artists do their work.
Trust me, the struggle of depreciating yourself will not end! The more I get deep to this hobby, the more I realize I need to learn more lol. You are an artist now, and there's no going back.Just enjoy the ride man!
I wasn't happy with my colouring attempts for this, but I like the sketch.
playing around with frenden charcoals a bit.

All right, I'll try that out. Thanks, man.LegendX48, that looks very nice! I recommend trying to put heavier emphasis on the line above the eye, and possibly leaving a small gap beneath the eye. Googling 'beauty eyes drawing' might give you some inspiration?
Personally, I need to dig myself out of my rut.
I think I need to get back into digital inking. Sketch and ink picture from ref photo.
DEATH;192351246 said:Also, I know this ain't Self Study but... CB help with Zigzag folds! How do I draw a lineart with that thing? ARRRRGH
Was working on a sketch tonight, I think stalking C_B's tumblr today had a slight effect on me.
I'll see if I can write up an explination as to how I go about doing it but what I will say is a lot of it is playing with line weight and will depend on the weight of the fabric itself. I'll get back to you on this one!
More iPhone fuckery.
Love this. What program are you using? Anyone know if there's a similar app for Android?
Anyway, here's my contribution. Pen, 'Sexy Baby.'

^ Ahhh.. that looks awesome! I don't knwo how you guys have the patience for tablet/mobile art apps.. I need maximum comfort for everything.. hahah!
I tried out pencil crayon again after who knows how long (probably 10+ years lol)

Plain inked version probably looks better. So much more.. pristine~

4 hours of hand hurts. I used to make so many "character profiles" with pencil crayon before and now I don't understand how I managed.. lol I suppose necessity at the time forced my hand..
It kind of looked cool from a further away perspective lolThat shit is disturbing.
I agree the pen looks better, but the color isn't bad.
But yeah, luckily I scanned and saved the lineart in higher res because I knew I'd screw up a bunch. XD

Thanks, fingers crossed!Holy shit. I think you got this on lock.
Thank you! It was a fun opportunity to try out dramatic lighting, and also some things I don't usually do, like beads. Long hair is kind of intimidating, but Iike the way it turned out.i like it, especially the lovely pastel-like finish of her skin and the mix of saturated oranges, browns, and pale yellows where the light hits her hair. nice touch with the DOF on her dress too.
I made a gif for Witchsona week! >
It took me 5 hours of "I dont' know how to use.. any program but MSpaint for clean non-aliased and purely single pixel lines" and.. .. ... ...
TORTURE..! It kinda cute though so it's okay!

Here's how it looked pure mspainted before the magic of photoshop:

Halfway through I gave up on my dumb stylus. Was really feels no some of the brushes I was messing with. The face isn't as successful as I wanted it to be but next time I'll block in more before high tailing it to Detail Town.
