Art direction. Artistically Ghost looks better, way better imo.How is Assassin's Creed Valhalla not in the top 3 for best graphics? I have a 4K tv with an XSX and Valhalla is miles better than LOU2 and Cyberpunk. Never played Demon Souls. It is by far the best looking game I have played. Maybe not enough people played it in 4K?
I am playing both on XSX 4K with HDR and AC:Valhalla looks amazing at all times. MUCH better than Cyberpunk. But Cyberpunk is still good. Maybe you have your settings wrong. I have Ghosts on regular PS4 and looks great. I can only imagine it looks amazing on PS5. Did they release a next gen upgrade for that?Art direction. Artistically Ghost looks better, way better imo.
I’m playing Valhalla on the XSX and it looks great at certain cherry picked locations but can look really dull too, it’s not consistent at all imho.
Meanwhile I’m playing Cyberpunk on an old 1080ti at 1080p and it still beats Valhalla on details
can’t even imagine what it looks like in ultra RT at 4K on a 3090.
Top 3 is jokes.
Cyberpunk is a broken flop.
Last of Us Part 2 was forgetful and overdone.
Ghost of Tsushima was an absolute bore.
For shame and gaming is dead.

If you’re playing Cyberpunk on XSX you’re playing the Xbox One version, it looks nothing like the PC version which we can assume is what people voted for to get it to #2 on graphics, it’s not perfect in any way but there is a details, effects, density mix that I haven’t seen anywhere else.I am playing both on XSX 4K with HDR and AC:Valhalla looks amazing at all times. Other than complexity, what makes Divinity so fundamentally different to FFVII that they would not be considered the same genre? The actual rpgs like Wasteland or Divinity will benefit a lot more if this genre gets separated.
Cyberpunk in all those categories...is it some kind of elaborate trolling or did this board go full retard somewhere in 2020?

Look decent? Best looking game out there and meanwhile death stranding gets in the list ...It's a niche game with a niche market. It might look decent, but overall as a game, all you do is fly around.
So one copy/paste should be higher than another copy/paste?Animal Crossing at #9? Sony's first party Ubisoft game at #1?

The remake of FF7 is very linear, each character cannot be influenced in any way, your class or choices dont alter the game like they do in a game like Divinity. The combat is also more rpg-like than action, quests can be done in multiple ways depending on what role you choose to play. Many other things. Just try both games yourself and see that while both of them are named "RPG" they are actually nothing alike. I believe A-RPG and RPG should be two different genres.Other than complexity, what makes Divinity so fundamentally different to FFVII that they would not be considered the same genre?
And your top 3 is?
Every year there's always some bitter mother fucker that hates everything.
Love you guys and god bless NeoGAF. <3

I really recommend Divinity OS2 to any fan of turn based combat and RPG gameplay, this underrated game triumphs over its competition in its genre so easily imo, for example Persona 5. Combat in Divinity 2 is so much better and more tactical that after i played that game the persona 5 combat just doesnt do it for me anymore. And its not just the combat, Divinity 2 has great level design and deep rpg mechanics, the soundtrack is fantastic, and the characters are cool. It doesnt have the best story or best writing in the genre but its one of the best of all time when it comes to rpg gameplay.
Anyway dont wanna go too much off-topic here. I will say again that i think Action role playing games are killing the RPG genre, they are more mainstream and i understand the appeal, some of my best games of all time are actually Action RPGs but when it comes to rpg elements those games are generally very light on it and when people claim they are best rpg it somehow creates a confusion to old school rpg fans. I think its important to understand the difference between them and separate them as ARPG and RPG.
Yep. Looks good but hoping the upgrade isn't as long as they say it will be (6 months +).If you’re playing Cyberpunk on XSX you’re playing the Xbox One version, it looks nothing like the PC version which we can assume is what people voted for to get it to #2 on graphics, it’s not perfect in any way but there is a details, effects, density mix that I haven’t seen anywhere else.
Astro's Rescue Mission eats Playroom's lunch. Most people never played ARM.Astros Playroom beating Ori as best platformer! Get to fuck
Not only branching paths but each quest can be completed in many ways, not only quests actually, many parts of the game can be done in multiple ways, like stealing. I was surprised by how many ways you can experiment with this game to try things out, whether in combat or in the world itself (exploration) or in the side and main quests. A lot of stats, a lot of skills, all of them matter, all of them have their uses, thats neat! I wasnt just talking about main story.I've beaten Divinity: Original Sin 2 twice. It's a fantastic game that I would recommend to anyone. While it certainly has more branching paths than something like FF7, I certainly don't consider that the make or break factor in something being an RPG. Most of the choices and consequences you make are fairly minor in the grand scheme of things. You're still going to play through more or less the same content and linear overarching story. I don't necessarily see that as a weakness, though.
At a surface level and feature level, the two games are firmly in the same genre. FF7Re can even be played in a classic turn based mode where you can choose every command for your party (I wouldn't recommend it, though).
Lots of people here have some apologizing and reflection to do
yup, most people definitely didn't play Alyx and it shows. Hopefully, that changes in the future.
Yeah I'm pissed off Mario 35 didn't win GotY as wellLots of people here have some apologizing and reflection to do
No MS flight sim? Considering people were calling it the greatest looking game of all time and it's literally got the largest open world in a game ever (the literal world), I think it deserved a top twenty place.
I think I've been cheating on Gaf's thoughts and it got cut out of them. I was using hypohons to make longer words like "Combo-licious" and "Nostalgia-fueled" and I don't see any of those dumb longer words I madePS: Loved "Gafs thoughts" for each game. Great way to summarize what make esch game special.
Easy to make it look that good when everything is that far away. It's not ground-breaking tech. Sorry.Look decent? Best looking game out there and meanwhile death stranding gets in the list ...

FF7 Remake doesnt even have 10% of that rpg mechanics/elements. Keep in mind im not saying its bad to not have them, just that its either two different kind of games with clearly different focus (my point/argument) or one is a deep rpg and the other is a shallow one (which is an unfair point to make since i personally believe those genres are different and put their focus on different things).
As i said there are many factors but the decisive factor imo is whether the game is action or not. Action style combat makes the game ARPG which leans less on tactical positioning and stats and more on timing and dodging but since they are light on rpg elements they also have a glimpse of stats and tactics which is why people call them A-RPG.
Actually the classic mode for FF7 Remake is very poorly implemented that its a complete joke, its an afterthought. The game at its core is an action role playing game and to be honest even compared to other action role playing games this game still doesnt have much going for it in the "roleplaying" part. It could be an action game and it would still be partially correct.
Dont get me wrong though, the game is fun and i liked it, its a very good game but its not really a rpg in the same type as other rpg/jrpg games.
Persona 5/Dragon Quest is a JRPG
Divinity OS2/Pathfinder is RPG
Witcher 3/Mass Effect is ARPG
FF7R/Nier Automata is AJRPG which looks ugly so people call them ARPG and be done with it.
I can see you disagree with me on this, so after playing those many different rpg, you put them all together under the same genre, or do you separate them into sub-genres? if you do, based on what?
