It was my 21st birthday last month, and my friends were very generous :)

Link on Epona statue from my brother. I'm pretty sure they made 1500.

New monitor from my friends. It's a 2560x1440 IPS, so good for Photoshop.

GTX 680

256gb SSD from my parents.

Nike SB Stefan Janoski from parents as well.

Adventure Time comics.

Shirts, the one on the left is a tri-blend.

edit: I also bought a pair of Naked and Famous jeans, I should have them on Monday; and I finished paying off my Wii U preorder :)

Wow your friends and family are very generous and know what you like. I have yet to get any kind of technology present from my family...Jealousy

Halo 4 LE
Resident Evil 6 (yes I am enjoying it, even if it is dudebro explosion to the max)
Mega Bloks Brute Chopper with Brute
*Assassin's Creed III - forget to take a snapshot of it

so how do you actually get press kits, what credentials do you have to give?

In my unusual case, I write for a content farm that allows me to freelance for other sites. I told Nintendo that if I had a Wii U early , I'd be able to help out many of the enthusiast game news outlets (many of whom of only got one Wii U unit) with their launch coverage.

this sounds so easy but actually really hard to do.

Establishing a history and rapport with the publisher helps. I already had a record to prove my worth, having helped GamePro, G4/X-Play, and GamesRadar with the 3DS launch, and this year with G4/X-Play and Complex for the Vita launch.

Picked up Liberation Maiden for the weekend. And since it was talked about a bit last month, the american release of Speculoos. Did try the Trader Joes version late October...same stuff, just the creamy version and rebranded.

Fuck the last two things are the two things I'm torn on getting. I either want to get a 3DS XL or a Wii U...what to do, what to do...

How are you liking it so far? Videos seem interesting, but I´m rather annoyed by the constant dialog interrupting gameplay which to be honest doesn´t seem to be anything special, hopefully I´m wrong on this.

Gonna try it later tonight. Drink some beers and beat it. I'll update. I waffled back and forth buying the last few weeks but it was really the only thing left on the eShop for me to buy. I do like the idea that you replay it, though.

If you already have a normal 3DS then get the Wii U. If you don't have a 3DS at all yet then, shit, jump on that first! At least for Mario 3D Land, a ton of other neat games, classic GB/GBC/GG titles, and great eShop titles like NightSky. Wii U not going anywhere and you can get your NSMB fix with 2.

I'm actually borrowing a friend's 3DS (regular size) and having an absolute blast with Mario 3D Land. So much fun!

You have some nice friends lol. My friends gave me a 14 day trial code of Xbox Live for my bday XD. I'm jelly

And that monitor is nice, that res is enough to make me go single monitor instead of double

Also, nice Janoski's, I always liked how they looked but I couldn't wear them.

Just to set things straight, and since we Belgians invented it: ;-)

The cookies are called "speculoos" or "speculaas".
The thing in the jar is "speculaaspasta" (or speculoospasta).

Well, that's what we call it anyway... ;-)

What it looks like over here:

Awesome gifts! #121 and 122 are on my wish lists. Are you going to get them graded?

I'm considering it. I feel good for just having it, so I'm not quite sure. Stan Lee might have a signing nearby and the CGC will be with him, so if I were to do it, it would be signed and graded there. If I weren't to get that signed, then I'd just get the Omnibus signed. Hmm...

Which Cab did you wind up getting? Guess I missed the post.

It's an american cab, so a monster of a thing. But it was a birthday gift from my wife. It's an old Mortal Kombat II cabinet that had Marvel Super Heroes installed, also came with SFA2, and MK 1-3, as well as an alternate control panel with the MK layout. But she got it all for $200. :D

Oh, what's this?

IMG_6806.png

Ohoho, my MMR cases arrived! I ended up contacting the seller on Amazon and they gave me a full refund (plus shipping) for the knockoff cases which I put towards these.

IMG_6808.png

Much better. Now to test it out...

IMG_6809.png

There we go.

IMG_6810.png

Picked this up while I was at gamestop. I like card games and this got decent reviews, so...

IMG_6794.png

WOOOO finally got a copy of Tactics Ogre: TKoL! Been wanting a copy of this for YEARS. I found it at a local store that has so--
hold on...
does something seem a little... odd to you about this cart...?

Let me look a little closer.... Something seems a bit... off....

...Aw crap, it's a bootleg.
A pretty decent one at that, considering that I didn't spot it immediately and it took me actually getting home and holding it in my hands before I was able to tell.

Let's talk a bit about spotting bootleg GBA games, shall we?
IMG_6796.png

The first thing I noticed was that the ESRB logo was really blurry and the smaller "Content Rated By" text was basically unreadable. I didn't even realize it until later but it also says "LICFNSED" by Nintendo. The official seal was also blurry as well. (The art on the label sticker itself is also completely different on the official version but I didn't know what it looked like and didn't know without doing a google image search.)

I pulled out a legit M&L cart to compare.
IMG_6795.png

Note the sharp text on the ESRB logo.

Secondly, all official cartridges have a number stamped directly onto the label, as seen here.
IMG_6798.png

Tactics Ogre had none.

The label itself was also suspect.
IMG_6804.png

Look at the size and placement of M&L's label. It's perfectly in the middle of the little rectangular area there, and has a uniform amount of space between the sticker and the edge of the plastic on all sides.

IMG_6803.png

The bootleg is off-center and a bit smaller and moved off to the right side.

The back of the cart wasn't much better.
IMG_6799.png

Note the model number here. AGB-022. The incorrect font, size, and placement of that first 2 aside, there is no such model number as an AGB-022 in the Gameboy lineup. All official regular-sized GBA carts (meaning the ones that don't have special features like Drill Dozer, Yoshi: Topsy Turvy, and Warioware: Twisted don't count) have a model number of AGB-002.
Also of note is the screw. Official Gameboy games use Triwing screws and the screw included here is some sort of oddly shaped vague triwing/triangle combination.

M&L again for reference.
IMG_6800.png

Note the AGB-002 model number and the "Pat.Pend. Made in Japan" text which isn't included on the bootleg.
Also note the sharply defined triwing screw.

I even went as far as opening it up to look at the insides but I didn't take pictures of that. Needless to say it was a chinese circuit board and didn't include the printed Nintendo logo anywhere. It was held inside the cart with some kind of glue. I was surprised to see that it actually included a save battery, but the battery was dead as chinese pirate carts often are which didn't surprise me at all.

Anyway, I called up the store and explained the situation to them and fortunately they were cool about it and let me exchange it for something else.
So in its place, I picked up:

Dragon Warrior 3 (amazing game, especially for the GBC)

Robopon: Sun Version (been wanting this for years)

My Radeon 6950 2GB died after a year in honorable service. It was under warranty so I got this beast as a replacement! \o/ Me happy.

And finally, after more than 3 and a half years in service...I replaced my iPhone 3G with the brand new iPhone 5 32GB. My god...the speed, the clarity compared to 3G is several orders of magnitude.

I got invisibleSHIELD for it along with Speck Candyshell case. Fits perfectly.

Finally replaced my Galaxy Nexus I had since launch. Honestly I would have wanted another Nexus but no LTE is a deal breaker. On to a Galaxy Note II.

How do you like the invisible shield?
Love it. I had it on all my Apple devices from the start:

iPod Classic 80GB: it's still on it and no problems whatsoever and that's after 4+ years of usage.

iPhone 3G: had it for ~2yrs with no problems.

girlfriend's 4S*: she has it on from day one (~4 months by now) and it works like a charm.

...and now my iPhone 5.*

* dentoes invisibleSHIELD HD, the newer and waaaay better (IMHO) model than before. Check their site to see the difference.

It really does what it says it does. You just need to be careful and follow the instruction to the letter when you're applying it and be sure to leave it for 24hrs to "sink in" before you use it.

Does it seem like when it's removed it won't leave any residue?
The only invisibleSHIELD I removed was the one the iPhone 3G (~a year ago when I stopped caring about that phone). No residue was left behind, you just peel it off slowly and then wipe anything that's left with a lint-free cloth. The phone looked like new after ~2 years of heavy usage.

All in all it's a great protection mechanism and when you combine with a good case (like Speck Candyshell) you have the "ultimate" protection: invisibleSHIELD against scratches and the case against fall damage, etc.
