NeoGaf OLED owners thread

That would have to be one hell of a bright room. Like an operating room or literally sitting in a gazebo outdoors.

I use a QD-OLED (Sony A95K) in a room with two windows and patio doors. I don't even have drapes, just curtains that block maybe half the light. I usually only close the curtains directly behind me.
But that's a TV

TVs have better panels than monitors. Monitors are not as good at dealing with lights

I want to upgrade fom my IPS 4K monitor, but still don't know what type of panel to go with.

Is it normal that my LG C1 image gets noticeably darker when I activate 120hz and VRR on my PS5 Pro? My TV is Calman calibrated and the input is set to PC mode for full chroma 4:4:4.

If the Pro is like the standard model, it'll be sending 12-Bit YUV 4:2:2 (or 4:4:2) when 4K at 120Hz. It only uses RGB/4:4:4 for 60Hz. Probably just a chroma mismatch at 120Hz

it's not normal.
c1 in game optimizer mode, PC input label, 60 and 120hz should be identical.
Full chroma is only at 60hz output on ps5. 120hz is 422 but it doesn't change colors.
Maybe some wonky update? I've not updated my c1 in 2 years

I've had the same issue with OG PS5 since I bought my TV 2021...

Edit: Hmm, seems I'm not the only one:

My C1 seems the same regardless of mode, but I don't have a PS5 pro. Just a PS5 and some other consoles. I just set up an Xbox Series X on it today and noticed no change whatsoever when I switch between 60 and 120hz.

Maybe it's the PC input? I have mine using the normal console input.

Yeah was going to pick up the s90d or s95d but with that price I picked up the s90c last Saturday. Been a nice tv so far. Not a fan of the OS but I have a fire cube attached to it.

For that price it's really a no brainer, the S90C it`s a great TV still. Meanwhile in my country the S90C is barely cheaper than the S90D.

Question about my Sony A95K....

A while ago I was told that it's not recommended to fully plug off the Sony A95K for a long time, in my case that could be a full night or a bit longer. Why though? I mean if I were to go on vacation for a week or longer I sure as hell would plug it all off.

You should ask the person who told you this. It is not true.

The only thing you should avoid is unplugging or cutting the main power immediately after using. OLED TVs run maintenance on the panel, usually within a few minutes after using for an extended period of time (4 hours is common). If you frequently cut the main power after using, your panel life will be shortened.

I would only recommend fully cutting the power if the TV has been turned off overnight. You can then leave it unpowered as long as you like.

Ah yes, then I will just keep it like it is now. I really don't want any bad shit to happen and certainly not shorten the panel life. If I was gonna do this it actually would be right after I have used it and I'm about to sleep or leave the house for a few hours. I was planning on connecting the power cable to a power strip (where my consoles, soundbar are connected as well) and then just turn it all off with one button. But I'll leave it as it is.

Why? A TV is not going to burn down your house. Turn off your water mains and the kitchen appliances and that's pretty much it.

I always recommend cutting power connection for electronics when not in use for extended periods due to lightning/brownouts/power surges.

OLEDs make cycles of self repair while off. Please don’t unplug them from the power. Also, to prevent damage in your electronics (TVs, consoles, PCs…) always plug them to a socket with protection against power surges.

Anyone have the Alienware AW2725DF? Any thoughts?

There's a sale in the UK, still a bit too expensive for me, and there's also a used one for a really good price that I'm looking at.

If I were to leave the house for like a week I absolutely would power it all off.

Yeah, my TV power cable goes right into the wall, not into the power strip. My Xbox, Switch and soundbar do go into the strip.

How is motion interpolation on Samsung OLEDs if you set it at 1/10? For movies I mean. Is there any stutter or visible motion "speed" changes from scene to scene? I wonder how does it compare to LG's Cinematic Movement when set to minimum.

Just got S90D and so far so good, I can confirm 1/10 or 2/10 works well for movies. Miles better than unusable motion interpolation on Panasonic HZ1000 I tried some time ago.

Uniformity is not perfect, there's some mild vertical banding visible in challenging very dark scenes but from what I'm reading and seeing on avsforum it's normal and my set is average or maybe even a bit above average. 2nd and 3rd gen QD-OLED panels aren't as clean as 1st gen was.
Just don't expect to get a perfect panel from Samsung but consistency seems to be still much better than WOLED based on mine and others experience.

One thing I feel Samsung is not praised about enough is amazing native gradation. It's on par with Sony, something LG still can't get right after so many years.

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
I got a 65 inch Samsung S90C back in May. It's a Qd-oled. Super bright and the best game TV in the business IMO. Also got the 5 year Costco warranty! With the warranty $1599

Also Samsung has great burn in prevention software.

hoping to get some help here...

I am hybrid working from home and office and I'm a big gamer as well. I want to be able to work at home on a good gaming monitor but concerned with OLED as it's also my work monitor...

Here is the monitor I currently have:

32" Gigabyte M32Q https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/M32Q#kf

What I'm looking for:

32" (OLED but I'm afraid of burn-in with working from home at times.) 1440p Decent HDR

Thanks for any suggestions!

There's no 32" 1440p OLED monitors on the market, i think

Only 27" 1440p or 32" 4K. And soon 27" 4K

27" 1440p:

ASUS XG27AQDMG
MSI MAG 271QRX
Alienware AW2725DF
Gigabyte AORUS FO27Q2

These are all good options

I was also worried about OLED burn-in, but it seems this issue is overblown.

I plan to buy 4K OLED monitor, but more and more monitors start's to offer dual mode 240Hz / 480Hz and I hope to see 32'inch QD-OLED 240Hz with 1440p 480Hz dual mode. Current 4K 240Hz monitors have 1080p 480Hz dual mode, but 1080p looks quite small on 4K panel, while 1440p could be usable.

Are you really going to take advantage of 360 or 480hz? You need to be honest with yourself

Very curious to see the performance without MLA. Chipset is already a better version than last year's so we know video processing will be top notch again. Still think QD-OLED is the better panel but Samsung dropped the ball the last couple of years when it comes to the processor. Anyway, I don't think I can wait another year, this year I'm buying a new TV even if I have to go with LCD for the increased size.

Imagine being happy that after 6 months your expensive display is not broken yet. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Lets talk in 6 years.

I bought an AW3423DWF two years ago and have already amassed ~6700 hours on it. I bought it just as I was getting a bit bored of gaming so 99% of my usage has basically just been work stuff. I still don't see any signs of burn-in even on single-color fullscreen slides.

The whole issue has become very overblown, in my opinion. People used CRTs for decades without worrying about these things and I think the same applies here.

Will the VRR bug ever get fixed? With that I mean how some games have this terrible flickering in dark grey/black backgrounds. For example the demo of The first Berserker, when I disable VRR on my Xbox it's gone. Such a game changing feature but has this annoying shit. Thank fuck not every game has it.

More like a limitation of current OLED tech than bug. Some OLED monitors have VRR flicker reducing modes. Like S32G80SD has feature called "VRR control", when enabled it helps a lot but adds extra 20 ms of input lag. It's also possible that this feature needs high refresh rate panel in order to work well so current 144 Hz or even 165 Hz panels present in TVs might not be fast enough to implement anit-flicker feature. But I'm not sure if high refresh rate is needed, I assume it is since we've only seen this feature on monitors so far.

Does the Sony A95K have such a feature too or am I shit out of luck with that?

Here's something a little different I picked up on a recent heavy discount.

For context:
Had LG 45 Curved oled ultrawide - Loved curve for gaming. Resolution too low. LG's matte coating sucks. Ultrawide aspect ratio annoying with some game support.

Had LG C2 42. Loved everything about it, missed the curve.

Enter the LG 42 Flex. All benefits of the LG C series now with curve - configurable in 20 steps from flat to 900r. Also works well in ultrawide aspect ratio, in a dark room it just looks like any other large ultrawide. Most versatile display I've owned yet and probably my end game for as long as it lives.

Excuse the wall decor, painting is on my infinitely long to do list and I game in the dark.

Hi guys, I've been hesitating between OLED and MiniLED does anybody experienced both ? Preferably a c89b ( aka c855) vs a S90D...

S90D is the one I'd go with. If you're in the States, the 55", 65" and 77" are all QD-OLED, which is the best screen technology on the market (MLA can piss right off).

Don't mention it. But I'll add that while I don't take any particular care of the monitor then it's still worth having a few mitigations like you would with a CRT. If you grew up on CRTs then you probably already know most of them like having a screensaver and autohiding the taskbar and stuff like that. If you always run your windowed applications maximized/fullscreen then menu bars might similarly become an issue over time.

It can be hard to unlearn 20 year old habits. But if you don't mind that then I don't think you have much to worry about.
