NeoGaf OLED owners thread

To anyone OLED owners out there who doesn't know.

On Windows 11 some games do not enter Auto HDR mode and you cannot play it with HDR and vibrant colors. Try below solution. I tested it on Balatro and Noita and the games enter Auto-HDR mode when started and plays with vibrant colors and HDR mode. No more washed up colors.

--> Go to Nvidia Control Panel.
--> Choose 3D Settings.
--> You can either choose globally or you can apply it game by game basis. I choose the latter.
--> Scroll down on to the "Vulkan/OpenGL Present Method"
--> Choose "Prefer layered on DXGI Swapchain".
--> Save and exit.

Now, like Balatro or Noita, the games which don't trigger auto HDR before enters HDR mode upon start up. Sorry I don't have any info on AMD side but there should be similar options there, I'm sure.

Either the Samsung S90D or the LG C4. Cant go wrong with either one. The Samsung has a brighter panel and better color saturation. LG has a superior OS. The OS is very important if you are not planning on using an AppleTV or something similar. The Samsung OS is pure trash.

Still have the first oled I bought, the C7 and it works perfect. The CX I got after is on my room now. Last year i got the G4 and is absolutely fantastic. Will probably wait until the G7 to upgrade.

Do you see the G4 as a massive upgrade over the CX or more of an incremental one?

So, I've had an LG CX for four-ish years now. Running good in general, no burn-in or dead pixels despite heavy use.

I've had one issue. I'm not really a fan of the "Magic Remote", and usually avoid the Wiimote functionality, but that cursor just wants to pop up at times when you pick up the remote. And on occasion (rarely, but it does happen), the cursor will get stuck somewhere on the screen. And it will remain there - turning the TV off and on again via the remote doesn't help. You'll have to unplug the TV for it to reset.

Annoying, but infrequent. However, yesterday two times, and today two times again, the TV will seem to work fine. But the streaming apps - while browsing for content works fine, when trying to play a video, either there will be sound but no image, or the app will complain about something. And again, simply turning the TV off and on via the remote doesn't help, a full yank of the power cable is required.

Anyone else who has experienced this? I'm not really looking forward to replacing the TV just quite yet (or some years even, if possible). As far as I can tell, I'm running the latest firmware, at least no updates are available for me (via the TV).

Maybe get a streaming box like an apple tv or something. The LG CX should be about 4-5 years old which in chipset terms is quite old.

Yes, hence I've been using it for four-ish years :) Thanks for the suggestion, but if possible, I'd like to get by without another device. But ehh. If this persists, maybe I'll just use the Chromecast Ultra that I already have.

If it's really just the apps misbehaving and there is no solution found I would just buy an Apple TV and stream through there. Not worth the money to replace the whole set if the apps are the only issue.

I agree regarding the remote btw. I have the 77 inch CX and the remote sucks. I spent 3000 bucks to get a remote that needs line of sight to work, come on man. My mid tier Roku TV remote has Bluetooth for god's sake. That's among other poor remote control designs on that stupid thing.

The remote doesn't need line of sight in general, only for the "on/off" signal that's via IR. Otherwise, you can point anywhere, in my experience.

...on a related note. When I bought the TV, there was a bundle with a rather decent Atmos-compatible soundbar+subwoofer. Add a pair of rear speakers, and it's a serviceable home cinema setup. But, said soundbar just barely clears the bottom of the TV, and in the bottom right of the TV frame there's TV IR receiver. So whenever I want to turn the TV on/off, I have to hold the remote high and point downwards. This wouldn't be so weird otherwise, but both the TV and soundbar are made by LG. This is on a standard stand, wall-mounting obviously would rectify this, but I'm willing to bet the majority of customers don't do wall mounts.

Huh, now you're making me second guess myself. I don't usually use the remote much. But I remember using it under a blanket and the damned thing wouldn't register any of my clicks unless I took it out from underneath the blanket.

Maybe many won't agree, but I think the built in speakers are actually quite good! Astonishingly good for their compact size. I got my TV mounted on the wall so I could easily put a soundbar underneath, but I never bothered to get one.

Just tried, watching some shit off the tube. Pointed the remote right down at the couch. Play/pause works just fine. For the sake of argument, put the remote inside my couch-pants (this is purely for science!). Same result.

So yeah, I maintain the actual connection is by some wireless protocol, be it Bluetooth or something else. Just that the on/off signal is via IR, which is kinda annoying.

I got the Sony INZONE M10S a few days ago (27"/ 1440p / 480 Hz). It's my first OLED screen so it's been great! I have two IPS monitors to the side (24" / 1080p / 240 Hz) and the difference is like night and day.

480 Hz feels super stable, it's unreal. The difference from 240 Hz is visibly noticeable. Pretty good stuff.
