I think a lot of these bands like Metz or together PANGEA and Eagulls this year sound alike but they do entertain me. Though I don't really care for Perfect Pussy, that high pitched voice of which I don't even understand what she's singing is a bit too much for my taste.

Yeah I'm liking these new noisy bands if only because they don't look insufferably 'cool' (by cool I mean rude and boring) like the last wave of chillwave nonsense. They just need to focus on having hooks and dynamics and they'll be great. I love it when the pendulum swings back towards my tastes. Ugly dorks playing balls out superfuzz ftw!

They also bring energy to the stage. One of my favourite gigs last year was Thee Oh Sees for example. Fuzz and anything else Ty Segall does is also great. And FIDLAR was crazy too. Also like more 'cleaner' rock from Parquet Courts. They're more in that New York type of sound. The Men was in there too but it seems they've settled for a more diverse sound including country tunes and stuff. Still nice imo, but not very punky anymore.

I think perfect pussy set themselves apart from other noise rock bands just by having keyboards. Gives it a darkwave accent, which some people are saying there isn't enough of on the album compared to the demo but I think it's there. I think they're plenty different from, say, Roomrunner (who I love) or Metz (dece)

Plus I think they actually are interesting lyrically. obviously it's impossible to catch every word, but they play with Meredith's levels so that some lines are definitely audible. I've always liked that kind of vocal+lyrics, where you can make out the broad strokes and have to fill in a lot but can still see that it's weirdly poetic. like WU LYF. And I think lyrically PP has a message on SYTL, it's a story of growing later into your twenties and trying to reconcile your entrenched political beliefs with your personal life.

This newest Frankie Cosmos album is so catchy.

She's matured (emotionally and musically) so much over the last couple of years.

A bunch of artists I love (the members of julia brown/teen suicide) and others in that circle love Frankie Cosmos but the couple songs I've listened to didn't grab me at all and with a discography that big and a style I feel like I can get elsewhere I'm not too worried about missing the boat.

Anyone listened to 잠비나이 (romanization is "Jambinai")? Korean heavy post-rock with influence from traditional instrumentation. Deafheaven and GY!BE are obvious touchstones, definitely distinct though. There's a song on this album that's basically grindcore, there are ambient/drone detours, traditional post-rock builds. Love the cover art:

favorite tracks so far are the two part 구원의 손길 ("Helping Hand") (can only find a live recording) and 감긴 눈 위로 비추는 불빛 (which I can't find a popular translation for, but one source says "Wrapped Around the Light Shining On the Snow").

After about a year and a half of waiting, San Francisco-based orchestral rock group The Family Crest has released their phenomenal second album Beneath the Brine.

It's two dollars off on iTunes. Buy it.

This is absolutely fantastic. Thanks for the recommendation. Right up my alley!

Foster the People - Supermodel was on Youtube. I listened to it twice. I enjoy it. A couple of weak songs, IMO, but I may learn to love them the more I listen to it. Best Friend is still my favorite tune on the album.

Back on the topic of punky/garage music and stuff. There's this Dutch band who most likely won't get much attention abroad who are sure worthy of checking out. They're called traumahelikopter and their second album is just out. They've been on tour with the likes of Ty Segall for example over here. They played a lot of shows at SXSW last year and this year they managed to sign with an American booker so they're back in Austin and on the official programma this time.

The Decemberists are back into the swing of things. After three years of hiatus, they announced three benefit concerts in Portland, which all sold out within fifteen minutes.

I'm really glad to see how receptive the fans are to this comeback, and I can't wait to see what they've been working on.

For those who like it sludgy and heavy:

I'm gonna be a little cheeky and pimp my friend's band here. They're called WHITEDEVILWHITEDEVIL and they released their album 'A New Low' on a small indie label (Kitchen Dweller Records) yesterday. They could use the support, heaven knows they won't pimp themselves out.

It's all down-tuned, riffy goodness. Two part Floor, to one part Deftones. Give it a shot, you might like it:

Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has begun work on a disco side-project – click below to see fan footage of the group, who are called AAA Aardvark Getdown Services, playing live.

The outfit includes Parker plus Tame Impala and Pond members Jay Watson and Cam Avery and former The Chemist singer Ben Witt. Speaking to The West Australian about the group, who performed at Australia's Festival Gardens over the weekend (February 22), Watson said: "Kevin's been writing all these disco, Michael Jackson mega-hits that he wouldn't use for Tame because he'd be too sheepish about it but i'm trying to convince him to because they're all next-level 'Thriller'-pop."

He added: "It's pretty much Kevin's home recordings, kind of electronic but with Ben Witt who plays guitar and maybe another guy and Cam playing with Kev." According to Perth Now, meanwhile, their set was filled with songs which were influenced by the likes of Daft Punk, Chic and Blondie

The MJ cover they posted recently makes a bit more sense now, heh. I'm into this direction.

Danger Mouse man, Danger Mouse. Him and TBK shouldn't have worked together. No more amazing stuff like Rubber Factory...

So that new Black Keys single eh, let's not talk about that.

That bad eh

A friend of mine was actually looking forward to it quite excitedly. Poor him!

When I actually saw it producde by Danger Mouse, I was pretty excited. After, Portugal .The Man's last album was produced by and it was incredible.

Danger Mouse has some great projects on his name but I'm not a fan of his work with the Black Keys at all. It's still okay to listen to but stuff like Rubber Factory, Magic Potion and The Big Come Up aren't going to happen any more as long as DM is involved anyway.

I haven't listened to The Black Keys stuff so I wouldn't know how bad those albums are compared to others. But as an outsider to that band, I really enjoy his production on some albums.

I wouldn't go as far as buy the album he produced for shitty bands though

Well, the easiest way to say it is that earlier stuff (pre Attack & Release) was quite raw. When Danger Mouse got involved the albums got way cleaner and less raw and more produced.

Take this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jjScJ-bRpQ

And compare it to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpaPBCBjSVc

The first one is just two guys making music. Tighten Up has a lot more things going on than just two guys making music.

Of course it's all taste and stuff but I liked their earlier work more, where they were just two guys making music.

Yeah, it depends on what made you like the band in the first place. If the rawness appealed to you, then a more produced tracks won't feel the same. I, alos, gets a lot of flak when I state that I really Loved ''Evil Friends'' by Portugal. The Man, just because how mainstream and overproduced it feels compared to their previous outings. For me, its their first album I listen from them and I don't have that strong of an affection towards their old stuff.

On another topic, the new single by The Norwegian Indie darlings (From my province!!!) is bloody fantastic. Its called F is for Faker:

Brothers and El Camino are my faves by the Black Keys. But this new track left the whole blues/rock thing they got going and is straight up pop and a little bit of rock. I hope this singles sounds different from the rest of the album.

Exactly, El Camino and Brothers still had good mix of Rubber Factory blues and straight rock. Now it just seems like Broken Bells redux.

Hype flat-lining.

i decided not to go to the trail of dead show in manhattan tonight....

did i miss out?

I haven't enjoyed their album as much, but they are amazing live. Bonkers they are and they know how to handle equipments. They are one of the precise, technical, yet crazy energetic band I have ever experienced.

I am sorry to say this, but You've done goofed bro

source tags and codes is one of my favorite albums too....

i knew they were always HIGHLY regarded for their live performances but every time i checked out their live stuff on youtube i never really got the rave; i'd even say most of their live stuff on youtube sounds like crap (and not just because of the recording devices).

their sets two drummers were the only times i thought they gave a genuinely good live performance.

only basing this off of youtube.
