Neogaf Rock/Indie/Alt Music Thread (RockGAF?)

Really odd that Tamaryn's absolutely wonderful new album hasn't even been mentioned here yet. I thought Des was a fan?

I love it, but I wasn't in love with it at first. Wasn't ready for the change of influence, but now my ears love it.

I'm not sure how I feel about this John Grant album, but I can't stop listening to it. It's such a weird feeling.

Max Frost's new EP Intoxication is out today and is wonderful. 3 of the songs were released within the past year but 3 are new. Highly recommended -- this dude deserves to blow up.

I don't like it, but I don't like them so don't listen to me.
I wasn't crazy about the first album, so we'll see.

New Disclosure isn't great imo. First album had some clunkers, but also some really nice tracks imo. New one is just a little too...clean sounding. They're really gunning for dance pop smash hits it seems like, but it ends up being kinda boring.

Guerilla Toss's first release on DFA is up there with the best EP's of the year
Noise rock, no wave, freak punk-funk. lead singer has Kathleen Hanna's cheerleader-gone-homicidal quality. riyd TFUL282, Suicide or Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, fucked up Talking Heads, 1st/2nd album Health, Liars, The Pop Group, Ava Luna
they have a full length coming on DFA early next year too.
I might go see them tomorrow if I have nothing going on. They're opening for Speedy Ortiz, though, whom I didn't really care for live when I saw them a couple years back.

Fun fact: Kassie, the singer, used to work for me.

I haven't seen em live but I'd say do it—they have an insane live reputation. it seems there's a 75% chance at any Gtoss show the bassist will play naked.

Can someone suggest Pop Rock/Pop Punk bands?
Right now I'm really into:
Panic! at the Disco
Zebrahead
The Maine
PVRIS
The Wonder Years
Four Year Strong
All Time Low

No Green Day, Brand New, NOFX or Blink 182. Not a fan of any of those bands.

Cosmic Bus

pristine morning snow
co-sign for the Thermals, Rozwell Kid, Colleen Green, and Swearin'.

+ Diarrhea Planet, Sheer Mag, The Blind Shake, Kitchen's Floor, OBN III's (their new one is super divisive, though)

Good to see them doing well. I played with them in someone's kitchen a few years ago and they destroyed. This was before they had the female vox and had more of a Zs vibe.

I've been having a tough time finding interesting rock music lately. Hank Wood & the Hammerheads and Sleaford Mods being two exceptions.

Dan Barrett's new LP as Black Wing is different: https://theflenser.bandcamp.com/album/is-doomed
the "gloomgaze" of Have a Nice Life crossed with surprisingly colorful chillwave.

edit: also reminding me vaguely of chromatics.

nice I've read their early 3 piece formation was more abstract and reliant on sax, cool you caught them then.

I got it free since I'm part of "The Legrand Society" (i.e. I auto-PayPal him $1 a month). I didn't really dig Giles Corey all that much, but I love this.

Chromatics put out another track from Dear Tommy "White Light". It's great, but where da album at??

I remember Cosmis Bus warning me that we'd hear like 3/4 of the album by the time it actually came out lol.

I don't think it ever at any time reminded me of The Chromatics and I've listened through it over five times. I absolutely love it though.

Don't think I care enough to check it out. Strange how these things go. Still love their first two though. They'll eventually pop up on my radar again when they headline every damn festival next summer, probably.

Didn't realize the former members of Lostprophets (minus the pedo singer) started a new band with a new frontman. Their name is No Devotion and they put out an album on Friday.. checking it out now and it's good! Very, very different to Lostprophets, to say the least. I think fans of British rock will enjoy it.

As it turns out, the singer of No Devotion was the vocalist for an American band named Thursday who were pretty big here in the US back in the 00s. Never listened to them before but it's one of my best friend's favorite bands so I'm sure he'll be interested to check this out.

Sorry to jump in here all of a sudden, but I wanted to ask if anyone here likes El VY and if they're excited for the album coming out soon. I personally can't wait to hear it!

New Protomartyr is in the wild. Expectations are decently high for me, Under Color of Official Right was one of my pleasant surprises of 2014 and the singles seem to be continuing down that path.

She is probably gonna be huge as the hype is through the roof here in UK. Seeing her in next month and apparently its close to being sold out... ad nothing sells out here in Birmingham.

Helps when she's on Dirty Hit (The 1975, Wolf Alice) and Matt Healy is producing her album. Though I kinda like the idea of other artists on a label supporting one another especially smaller labels.
