Curious to hear what bands you'd say are a bad imitation of what has been done. Especially since you say 'most', considering there are literally thousands of indie bands out there.

Digging the new Protomartyr record. Can't wait to see them again in november.

Well try a bit harder then. Last week alone also gave us excellent records by Julia Holter and Kurt Vile.

Oh dear. I ask for something original and you come up with 1 act whose mining the early 90s for all she's worth and another who desperately wants to be in Giant Sand. When I said there is very little originality in the indie scene these days I meant it. There are very few bands who are doing anything that hasn't already been done a 1000 times before. That doesn't mean there aren't good bands out there, but let's not pretend they're pushing boundaries or breaking the mould. Anyway here's Ought, they'd like to be in The Fall -

If you're looking for something that has truly never been done before, you'd better stop listening to music, reading books, watching movies, playing games, or consume any type of culutral product.

Sorry dude.
Or maybe listen to Death Grips, i don't know.

Oh shit, you pointed out that music I like in 2015 has influences. You clearly have better taste then me and everyone else here who manages to enjoy a broad swath of music.

If you really can't get something out of Have You in My Wilderness because it's mining the 90's for all it's worth (which like wouldn't Kate Bush and Phil Spector be stronger influences) then you have my pity.

Give me a break. This thread has been one of the more enjoyable ones on this forum. Don't screw it up with your unnecessary trolling

Pretty much.

Originality is always a bit overrated for me. Sounds weird to say, but some of my favourite artists have shamelessly ripped off past ones. Just could never bring myself to care much if something sounds good.

Honestly it's fine to have the opinion that nothing sounds new and therefore isn't enjoyable--even if it's a pretty facile one--but posting Ought and Girl Band as if to educate the thread when they're two of the more talked-about bands in here is the weird part

The Protomartyr is pretty nice. needs to sit like Under Color to see if I really really like it. "Ellen" is a fantastic penultimate song
I got it free since I'm part of "The Legrand Society" (i.e. I auto-PayPal him $1 a month). I didn't really dig Giles Corey all that much, but I love this.
I still haven't checked out Giles Corey. every time I think about digging into more of their stuff I just end up going back and listening to more HANL haha.
I don't think it ever at any time reminded me of The Chromatics and I've listened through it over five times. I absolutely love it though.
Some of the synths sound similar, along with the energy level I guess--builds to dense sections then goes into repetition in a way that's ideal for night driving. maybe it's more similar to Symmetry than Chromatics.
Sorry to jump in here all of a sudden, but I wanted to ask if anyone here likes El VY and if they're excited for the album coming out soon. I personally can't wait to hear it!

Huh, I hadn't checked any of htis out yet because I'm eh on Menomena and (despite loving them) didn't have a huge desire for a National side project. but this title track's kinda nice!

Helps when she's on Dirty Hit (The 1975, Wolf Alice) and Matt Healy is producing her album. Though I kinda like the idea of other artists on a label supporting one another especially smaller labels.

Yeah, that definitely helps, but also the fact that she is pretty much the first ''big'' British vaporwave artist also helps her case too.

Dem riffs in "Why Does it Shake?", yes Protomartyr, get in.

I definitely enjoyed my first spin. It's certainly a tighter album then UCOR and has much sharper production (really noticeable on Why Does it Shake?) but it lacks the moodier tracks like Trust Me Billy and Violent spread around. Not immediately worse or better, just different.

I'm really excited about this. Big fan of The National and Menomena so anything they do on the side, I definitely take an interest in.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I saw Battles tonight, and damn, they played a great set. I really like the new album and the songs translate really well live. And they pretty much only played the songs from Gloss Drop that I actually like, so that was swell.

Holy shit, these guys are pretty fucking good. Anyone who enjoys Britpop, check out DMA's. Australian three piece who are absolutely nailing the vibe:

New song Lay Down was brought to my attention and it's fantastic and it turns out that they have an EP as well with a bunch of other great tunes. Feels Like 37 might be my favorite of the older ones.

Thanks for the tip, checked out the two songs you mentioned and liked em. Initial impression is that of people in this lane I prefer Literature a bit, still gonna get the full EP and look out for the album.

Goin by setlist.fm what you saw wasn't much different from what I saw at FYF Fest, but you crucially got to see The Yabba which is the best song on La Di Da Di and (being as I'm not that hot on the album as I'd hope to be for new Battles) the only song on it I'd call excellent. at FYF they were gonna close with it and got shut down so we were stuck with Dot Com and Net (eh) and Summer Simmer (pretty good). they're an awesome live band but I preferred seeing their set after Gloss Drop's release

Listening to the new Telepathe album...there's some catchy stuff on it, but it's not as infectious as Dance Mother. And even Dance Mother was nowhere near as good or adventurous as their Farewell Forest EP. Fairly disappointing trajectory overall, especially since it spanned almost ten years.

These guys are hyped over the moon. It's funny how Australians can sound so British :p

Anyone listen to Wavves new album yet? Like some of the pre-release singles like 'My Head Hurts' and 'Heavy Metal Detox' but haven't listened to the full album as it's not on Spotify yet.

Seeing Ride and The Chameleons this weekend. Funny thing about the Chameleon's show is that someone I know will be joining them for a few dates as their guitarist, but not for the show I'm going to.

wtf, this is so britpop. I'm just stunned that anyone still wants to do that. I'll pass it onto to my 90's obsessed friends.

The increased Low I've been listening to lately as I catch up on the 4-5 albums of theirs I haven't heard and revisit records that get better with each listen has given me more reasons to be convinced me that they're an all-time great band. Today's new-to-me reason is this performance of "Do You Know How To Waltz?", where for a Target-sponsored music festival set being broadcast live on public radio they play a 28 minute drone and then Alan Sparhawk declares "Drone, not drones." On the level of other incredible long droning live performances like Spacemen 3's "Suicide" and vu's "Sister Ray".

Haha that's kind of amazing. Not sure I'd want to be there for it but amazing nonetheless.

The new Low album is really good by the way.

I would've loved it, but half the fun of the video is definitely watching how the crowd reacts. For the opening drone before the song section, they're mildly confused. After the song section they're excited and having a good time. But after five more minutes of drone, and ten, and twenty, you can see so many baffled people unsure what to do with themselves haha.

The new one's fantastic. C'mon was my first so it's a sentimental favorite, but outside of that nostalgia factor Ones and Sixes is their best since at least Drums and Guns. Maybe since Things We Lost in the Fire.

Since yesterday I started working at a hifi shop (as an aside to my study). Heard I can buy the stuff we sell at the store for cost price once I work there for three months. Can't wait to shop for a new pair of headphones and maybe some bookshelf speakers

I like it. It very poppy but I actually love how catchy and engaging it is throughout. I am seeing them live next month

My favorite band Bloc Party has fallen apart.

I seriously hope they bring back the Silent Alarm - A Weekend in the City vibes or this will be dead on arrival.

I honestly think that Kele has something to do with this absolutely drastic change in tone, and the fact that some band members have left. Honestly, if Bloc Party were to stick to their roots, they'd still have a massive following, but they keep trying to branch out into this electronic stuff and it just doesn't work.

It's a shame to see them making work like this after the many listens I've given Silent Alarm. This sounds like something that will be played in Forever 21.

Anyone familiar with Post War Glamour Girls? Their new album (Strange Feeling) is out (in 2 chunks, the complete one is out next week) and its fucking amazing. Post-punk with melodic sensibilities and powerful aggressive vocals makes it powerful as well as catchy. Its very British with the vocals being clear and accented, written beautifully and some of those base tunes are bloody amazing. It also evokes the politically themed era of the 70s with lyrics contemplating war, poverty and social distress. Yet Another great band that comes from Leeds.

One of the best albums so far this year

FELONIOUS PUNK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efFsd1xK75Q
SOUTHPAW STANCE : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2m9y5uq1P4
LITTLE LAND: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwSGSDlowbk

Bloc Party has been dead since about 2009.

Silent Alarm is a classic m8. And the follow up was decent. Come Intimacy and the hiatus things started to fall apart. Sadly so.

Thanks to this Danish guy at work I discovered Rangleklods today. Two dudes from Denmark who make pretty cool electronic/pop music. Check out Young and Dumb -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6kcV_c9K3g

Yep, best Shoegaze band (well sort of)

Lillies and Remain

Yeah saw them at Vision Festival (the one where you dumped me :( ) and they blew everyone away. Everyone I talked said something great about them.
Do they sound like my bloody valentine, pale saints or an April March? I've always liked the female backed shoe gaze bands though yes Pale Saints and My Bloody Valentine switched them around, but my favorite MBV songs are the female ones.

Hmm in that case I would really recommend Echo Lake, if you don't mind more ethereal emphasis

There is also Harrys Gym who just broke up. They are a little more experimental in their sound with a big focus on melodic ambience and washed out vocals

And even i am moderately surprised
speaking of Shoegazing.... Swervedriver play Tokyo tomorrow night.

I'm nearly pishing myself, but not sure i can make it.

I listen to Autumns Grey Solace, Lycia, Dead Can Dance, Siddal, Collide, Cocteau Twins and god only wants to know what else I can pull out of my butt, I'm all about the ethereal emphasis. I also like Blonde Redhead, Asobi Seksu and Mira. Echo Lake isn't too bad, sound like a watered down Lush or less screechy Blonde Redhead, depending on how she wants to sing.
