So a local AD quoted me $560 for the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic with black dial and brown strap. I could get a grey market one for about $450 but that has no warranty.

I've been wearing this one for a while now. It was modded with a simple bezel swap, the black and white is definitely a good look IMO.

My girlfriend bought me this for Christmas. I've never wore a watch, I don't know what the additional three little faces inside it are for, but it looks pretty smart I think.

Absolutely in love with this thing, surprised how big it is, probably because the bezel itself is tiny compared to the dial. It actually looks bigger than my 42mm Tag Heuer F1.

Right top face is military time hours. So make sure thats set properly. It actually comes in handy to have that synchronized with your actual clock. Left top is a stopwatch timer in seconds and the bottom middle is for minutes on the stopwatch. Top button on the right side starts and stops the stopwatch and the bottom button resets it.

I posted more in the Gaming Pick-Up thread.

Thinking of exchanging for an omega planet ocean... I've had a Seamaster (007) since 1998 and I do love me some Omega.

Alright GAF I held off on the blacked out ECO-Drive. I'm looking to spend under $130 and found the Seiko SNK809K which I really liked.

Then after a little more searching I found an old thread on watchuseek of a guy who would mod the SNK809K's to look like this:

IMG_4694.jpg

I really like what he did here, but the post was from '09 and not sure if he is still doing the mods. Anyone know where I could find something like this in my price range? Might be a long shot but figure ask you guys first before just settling on the Seiko. Thanks guys.

I have a very similar watch in Navy Blue (the original Seiko unmodded and posted it a few page back). I really like it but it is quite small. Good for wearing with a dress shirt because it fits under the cuffs but may be too small to wear with a t-shirt. I just got it on Amazon btw, for about $65.

I like the mod.

For the first time I'm wearing a watch I wanted. Previously worn were gifts which were fine but not my first choice. The issue being that I have very particular tastes in watches and everything I liked was always far too expensive. I spied this one all the way back in 2001 or 2002, and only just in the last month finally bought it. The ten year wait brought it down to half the cost so the hit to my wallet was easier to take.

It's a Tag Heuer limited edition (999 pieces) McLaren Kirium. To be honest I only realised it was a Tag when deciding to buy it and was surprised as I generally don't like Tag designs.

Only $125

Thanks! $125 isn't bad at all, and because it's black and more casual than the one I just got as a gift, I might get this one too to switch things up.

Movado and PO shouldn't even be in the same sentence. The PO is an absolutely stunning watch. Their popularity has grown a lot, you can't find one on the second hand market for less than $2,000.

Well to tell the truth, the Movado (a $2000 watch) was purchased for only $900 in the store because it's warranty had run out. I was tempted because at first I thought I'd be happy with the Movado, and the fact that I got away with not paying full price.

However after looking at the new Omega models I decided to just return the Movado and make myself happy, even if it meant spending a few $ more, so to speak.

How much did you spend on the PO? Thinking of getting a PO or Speedmaster, but don't want to spend too much (>4000)

I didn't realize this was the "official" thread. Repost from the other thread (stock photo, sorry; I have pics but I'm not at home):

My watch:

Omega Seamaster 300M Chronometer (model 2220.80.00). It's the model Daniel Craig wore in Casino Royale. Absolutely gorgeous piece worth every exorbitant dollar I paid for it.

Same watch Peru has.

EDIT: even the freaking box an Omega comes in is swank as hell.

You used to be able to get a Speedy Pro or a PO 42mm for 3300ish each. Not so sure since the Omega pricejack.

Also remember you can get at least a 15% discount at an AD. If the dealer wont cut at least 15% off the watch, walk out.

Solo: Very nice. I have a 2254.50

Brand new Planet Ocean 8500 movement (the large size 45.5mm) in the Omega store $6000.

Amazing service, they take you in the back and you sit with the agent as they take measurements and make sure the watch is fitting comfortably.

A PO is 6000 bucks now? Holy shit.

Also I don't think the large size PO is 42mm. I think that's the regular one.

The large is 45mm the regular is 42mm

The new planet oceans are $6000 (the ones with the 8500 movement). The last generation one's are still the same price.

I think there are 45mm (large), 42mm (regular), and 36mm (medium face) variants. Love the watch, by the way!

Where is the Omega store? Right in Switzerland? I bought mine from an AD in Montreal.

Haha... the reason for the new movement is to combat chinese copies.

New movement, new window in the back to see it.

The chinese copies are of a very high degree of accuracy (they've even gotten the idiosyncratic lack of upturned feet on the omega symbol correct (as Omega uses the upturned feet for all their other models)). But they use the sea horse plate etching on the back which hides the movement (but is accurate to the older models).

Even so, the actual cost of manufacturing one of these couldn't be more than a couple hundred in material, and maybe upto a grand in labour.

Nice watch though, enjoy it.

Anyone have general recs for smaller-face minimal watches? I peeped some Seamasters not too long ago and eh, too chunky for what I want out of a watch. More specifically, a leather band and a simple, modern face. Price range ... uh... A few hundred or a grand-ish? I'm not a watch junky.

Omega jacked their prices to compete with Rolex more. They used to be the "value" luxury watch, but they're changing that now since Bond has given them so much brand recognition.

On that note, I will own a Speedmaster Pro before I die. What's your watch do? Oh ya? My watch can go to the moon bitch.

It's all about wrist size, the "normal" sized watch is about 38-40mm. 40mm is the more comfortable side of big. You have to take into account the bezel as well, a bigger bezel means smaller dialer. That being said though, bigger watches sell for more.

EDIT: Especially for fashion watches, the bigger the better. You're getting a Seamaster, I'm assuming its the SMP, that's borderline fashion/time piece.

seiko automatics, particularly the asian market ones. There's several that fit that exact description. For example....

No sir. A seamaster pro is nowhere near "Fashion big". Fashion big is enormous. An SMP isn't even on the large side of things for a regular tool watch. 42mm will be just fine on your wrist unless you have sticks. My wrists aren't big, about 7.25 inches, and the 2254.50 SMP 300 (about 41.5mm, lets say 42) looks just fine (pic below). So long as the lugs of the watch aren't hanging off the edge of your wrist you are good.

Hmm, some of the MIJ versions of those look quite nice.

I should have been more specific with terms (I don't really know a lot of them tbh)... I don't really want a watch with a large beefy bezel like the omegas seamaster... I like what I've seen of vintage omega speedmasters etc, if that gives you an idea of what I'm aiming for.

I should also say maybe I'm just not used to having a chunk of metal on my arm, and I could be doing it wrong. I'll have to sit on it for a bit.

Vintage Omegas don't hold their value really. Unless they're the moon Speedys.

The SMP is borderline fashion watch, that's why they pushed the Planet Ocean. Take away the band from the SMP and you got yourself a watch that looks like a fossil no offense. It's a nice watch, but its not a timeless design like the Speedy or Planet Ocean (Which is a Seamaster).
