That's too bad, Friggz. Watches are meant to be used and enjoyed. You can't enjoy that Rolex when its sitting in a box locked in a drawer :/

My first two Omegas were both left to me by my father. I don't wear that all that often, but i do get them out a couple of times a month. Don't be scared to let that Rolex live a little! In fact, so much disuse might end up hurting the automatic movement :x

They wouldn't be so expensive if they were easy to break.

I replaced the crappy leather strap on my Seiko 5 with a nice Crown and Buckle one (Benton). I think it looks a little better now with a lighter colored strap.

understood, perhaps because it was my grandfathers im a little too careful with it since i wont be getting anything else from him.
Agree with the others. As a dad who is trying to build up a collection that can go to his kids one day, I'm betting your grandfather would have loved to know you will wear and enjoy the watch, even if it does mean a ding or scratch on the case every once in a while.

Also, 1) submariners were tool watches used by navy divers; they can take a little abuse; 2) these watches can be fixed if anything partiuclalry troublesome happens to them

Ordered a black Orient Ray just now. Can't wait.

I'm either getting this:

SNZH53

Or the Orient Blue Ray:

Or this, too:

I'm leaning towards the Seiko SNZH53 because of the sapphire crystal, but it's a 14mm in thickness. My current watch is 13mm, and I already have skinny wrists (6 inches/circumference).

I got myself my first proper watch a couple of weeks ago. I was saving for a Tag Heuer over the summer but since I haven't been one to wear watches before I went with a more reasonable Jorg Gray first. Perhaps I'll get a Tag Heuer as a present to myself when I finish university.

I've been given the go ahead to buy myself a nice watch like I've been wanting. I've been looking at Tag Heuer but don't really have a specific model picked out. The max I want to spend is about $1500-$2000 but I think there are plenty of options there. Does anyone have suggestions or specific models to look for?

I'm in no real rush to get it, sometime before Christmas since it's a present.

I'm looking to pick up one of those Seagull 1963 Air Forces. Does anyone know a reliable site that has them for a fair price?

I got a Seiko Diashock, but the time goes a few minutes fast after a day of wear. Does anyone know if this is an easy fix? I just started wearing it again after years of neglect (my cellphone is more than enough for accurate time).

I would ask the eBay seller Trusthonestman. Even if he doesn't have in stock, he sells enough Seagulls I imagine he can order one.

If you are in the US, you can also email Kevin Ma at US Seagull and ask. You can google for his email.

Wow, how did I miss this thread? I love me some watch porn.

I missed wearing a watch after seeing the thread where people talked about Obama's watch, so I went and bought a new one. I've always had an affinity for Skagen watches and their minimalist designs. Should be here by Wednesday.

This one is amazing, but its not 36 mm like the weekender...does that matter?

1. I've been assuming we are talking about what timex calls the "slip through" weekender. I just saw there are now other models. If you are talking about another model, the below might not be true

2. Timex's product details on their website show's a spec for "lug width," which is the distance between the lugs (the arms of the watch, if you will), which is the width you need for a strap. Looks like most are 16 or 20 mm. That's what size strap to look for. The 36mm is for the watch case itself.

Invicta 12845

Anyone have any opinions on Invicta? I understand that the deal isn't as good as they make it out to be, but I've been looking for a cheap wristwatch and I really like the look of this one.

Does watch-gaf help with watch requests that are not premium priced? :) I am trying to decide on a decent g-shock for daily use, I've been looking at e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005FEYB2Y/ but I am confused by the many models! What features should I care about and are there any g-shocks in particular I should consider? Pricewise, I wouldn't mind going up if it's worth it.
I always found the bluetooth models, e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009ELZ8ZS/ nice, but I don't see them a lot around so I assume they kinda suck?

Reached out to Kevin Ma at US SeaGull. No luck there. They seem to be out for now. Considering an orient for the time being. Not sure though. Any experiences here with them? What's the general consensus?

Thanks for saving me on that watch, Cousteau. I'll be returning it upon my arrival and starting new. I do like the style, though, and my budget isn't much, under $100 or so.

Orient is great for the price. You could find some on Amazon for like 135.

just dropped the hammer and bought the Orient Mako. If you plug in the code 'youtube30' on their website right now, you get 30% off.

Question for you pros: I want to put a nato strap on it when it comes. I think I will 22m bands, am I correct here? Also, will I need any special tools to do this or am I better off just bringing it to a jeweler and having them do it?

Which thread is this? I'm interested in reading it.

BTW if your budget is ~$100, I feel like SEIKO is the way to go. I was unsure about them at first, but after getting a 5-series from them for the low low price of $65, I like it. Keeps great time and the price is insane for a decent automatic.

What are some of the best brands around 300-500. We all know about Seiko, Orient, Citizen, and some of us know about Seagull but what other obscure names are out there that make quality pieces?

^-- Hamilton and Tissot has some watches in that category. I have a Hamilton Viewmatic in that price range that runs great and looks pretty good. My husband has a Tissot that's similar in price and he likes it and hasn't had problems with it.

You can also get a used vintage Omega (I like the 1960s seamasters) in that range if you're looking for a more classic, simple dial.

They used to have a bunch of 50% off codes a while back. I own a Mako myself and I liked it, but now the day of the week doesn't work - it's stuck between monday and tuesday. The push button for the date is stuck now also. The year warranty is over so don't really want to pay to fix it since it was only $90. Nato strap is awesome though. Blue Mako with gray/blue strap is nice.

Now I need a new watch though :(

Anyone have or is familiar with the GB-6900 g-shock? Apparently it has compatibility with supposedly any smartphones with Bluetooth 4.0.

Going by the video,

1) it's able to tell you about incoming callers
2) it has a function that lets you find your phone (although I hear it's rather a short range)
3) there's a function that alerts you when you walk too far away from your phone, for the people who often forget their phones
4) you can use your watch to login or logout of your computer by walking away or walking towards your computer respectively

it sounds pretty cool to me, i wanna try it with the Nexus 4

The 8900's are large faced, so just be awareOTC that. The Bluetooth 6900 looks cool. The case is a standard 6900, of which there are dozens out there, so you can see how those look like. There are many different modules in the G's so it's really what features you want, and then go from there. Solar, atomic, countdown, compass, tide graph, etc.

The Bluetooth ones are very new, debuting his year.

I have about 15 G's out of my 40 or so watches. :)
