It's not really about having a dissenting opinion. It just got to a point where mods - and the whole community really - got tired of the same ol' bullshit about Rey. She's as competent and skilled as Luke and Anakin, but that's not OK because... reasons.

I'm pretty nervous that the heart of GAF will be lost as people flee the forum. But its a waiting game to see who and how many we actually lose.
I'm staying positive and trying to think that as they bring back the OT community threads slowly but surely, and as things settle down gaf will return to its former self. Very slowly at first but eventually. Not all the OT, gif makin' drunk gaffers are gone. Gaf mostly has a good culture. And we're still a mostly progressive space. We may lose some fantastic and prominent posters,(and they will be missed) but here's hoping that what they brought to the forum can be replenished by other posters over time.
Progressives didn't make the environment toxic. Its what made this forum great. But toxic people with progressive views made parts of the forum hard to deal with. Here's hoping that a new passionate group of posters can set the new tone of the forum once the bulk of the most aggressive are gone.

I felt that a gay-only thread would be more appropriate for gay people as a "safe space". People were upset that I was telling that gays and lesbians were not as much of a community as they think. People were pretty much offended and were thinking I was breaking up the LGBT community.

Maybe for those who abuse the term. But properly, it's used to call out those who aren't genuine. Those who are overly aggressive with it for personal gain or to curry favor with the in-crowd, etc. Or even those who might only be outspoken on the internet with their e-friends, but probably never stood for anything in real life. Like how fake tough guys online are keyboard warriors.
Having said that, I don't use the term. It's tainted to the point that anyone who does is assumed to be right wing.

We've heard the arguments and its pretty obvious who had a genuine take on Rey and who was just stirring the pot. The people stirring the pot would almost always get banned surprise surprise.
But LGBTs are a minoritiy and we should always listen to them. Also racial minorities and muslims need to be heard so I think my opinion should be heard and I say don't ban this person.

Also, an argument where neither side can convince the other isn't uncommon, people who don't think your arguments are compelling are not inherently bigoted for it.
