Readability's minimal online reading list is also really nice. I'm surprised these guys didn't charge at least 99c for the app

Oh shit the app is out?! omg. It's gonna replace Instapaper for me.

Btw Starbucks in Canada have the weekly app cards now, awesome.

Edit: Yea loving the app. I would gladly pay $10 for it even.

Might just be me but I've always found Readability and Instapaper useless on their own.

When bundled with things like Reeder they become great but I've never had the need to "save" an article to read later.

Instapaper is my killer app, much to Coco's confusion, because I tend to start and finish reading across different devices all the time.

There are a lot of long articles I like to read. Or maybe it's a relatively short article, but I don't have time (or don't want) to read it right away. Or maybe I just like an article that I want to keep for future reference. That's where Instapaper and Readability come in.

Don't say bookmarks. They suck.

Right, it's like you're curating your own little cache of interesting articles that you can read wherever you are on whatever you're using.

So I finally set up a Readability account so that I could use the app and...yeah, gigs is right. Those beautiful, beautiful fonts. It seems to have less discovery bells and whistles than Instapaper but the core reading experience is so much better. I wonder how Marco will respond.

TBH i'm just waiting for Apple to optimize their Reader feature combined with Reading List on safari. I already use Reading List on both OS X and my iPhone, so I can add something and then view it later on iOS.

All they need to do is get Safari's Reader feature in iOS and it'll be perfect. Instapaper is good enough for now, not interested in trying out something else and managing another account.

TBH I'm just waiting on Apple to make them all irrelevant.

I kind of have to agree. Although I like Readability a lot (in fact deleted instapaper off of my iphone/ipad and installed the Readability app on both, tweetbot and safari) - i would have no qualms getting rid of everything if Safari Reader would just become more ubiquitous.

My only issue with Readability is I wish I could send to Evernote.

Readability's business model is to get bought by Apple and troll Marco.

"Readability and Instapaper have a long history together — the two services have co-existed peacefully since their inception, and the company's first attempt at an app was actually developed by Marco Arment, the creator of Instapaper. The first app was rejected by Apple over a year ago as at the time Readability was a subscription-based service, which contravened Apple's App Store policies."

Ya so Readability's UI is pretty awesome. Cant wait to see it with my iPad 3! (my first iPad)

Might have to replace it over Instapaper...

I hope theres a quick way to move over my articles though

Has anyone checked out Steam for iOS yet? It's pretty cool having the store and your friends list on the go, so you wouldn't miss out on any Steam deals. It's also available for Android.

On the other hand, that might be a bad thing having your wallet and phone together on the go.

I know that history. They're not friends anymore. That's why I call it trolling.

Well, they inspired Marco to re-evaluate his "multi-page stitching is wrong" thing. That's a good start.

Ok I wasn't sure where to post this, since it's not an iOS app and it's Mac only, but everyone should try to check out "Reflection"; http://youtu.be/Ias5HYacN8s

It's a pretty amazing OS X app that tricks your iOS device (iPad 2 and iPhone 4S ONLY );) that it's air play compatible. So basically you can play your iOS games or whatever use your Mac/MacBook screen.

I only have i4 so I can't use it, but it I would totally try it out if I could. Prob. worth buying for a lot of people, i'll be using it when I get an iPad 3.

I took his PR comments at face value :|

He seems to be pretty upset now:

If you're tweeting how happy you are to "finally" be "dumping" my app, feel free to omit the "@" before its name so maybe I won't see it.

Related developer tip: When a copycat of your app launches, stop reading your replies for a few days unless you have a very thick skin.

As you know, numbler, Marco is one of my favorite people in the world. And I think Instapaper is better than Readability in many quantifiable ways. But c'mon...maybe spend less time griping about being undercut and spend more time co-opting the things people love about Readability.

I still plan on using Instapaper most of the time because my work flow is designed around it but the people who are gushing over Readability aren't doing it out of spite. They're doing it because it does a lot of things better than Instapaper.

Marco's a piece of shit and I'm glad Readability just fucked him over.

His insistence on not making an Android app is pathetic, while Readability have said they are already beginning to develop one.

A developer not choosing to support a platform, for whatever reasons he may have = automatic piece of shit. It's time to grow up.

I think he's mad because he helped them earlier on, even making an app that they were supposed to share revenue with.

But Readability does things well by first focusing on making it a very pleasant reading experience. Instapaper seems to be focused on too many features with a bare-bones reader.

I don't see what Readability's business model is by making everything free. That's why I think their business model is to get purchased by Apple (or someone else). Apple already uses Readability's code in Safari's Reader function.

I'm loving Readability so far, I'd bought both Instapaper and Read It Later but this knocks both of them out the park.

Sooo buying this soon. The options I'm thinking this opens up are endless.

I downloaded Pulse for iPhone last night to give it a whirl.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pulse-news-for-iphone/id377594176?mt=8

Pulse is basically a mix between a RSS reader and Flipboard.

They provide you with a list of sites and you can subscribe to feeds and arrange pages anyway you like.

In theory, it seems great. But I don't find it very usable on an iPhone. It's too busy for me and the screen feels cluttered with information. It feels like it would work better on a screen with more real estate like an iPad.

I do like the customizable aspect of it, though. I wish in Flipboard I was able to specify certain sites to include without having to integrate with Google Reader.

I ended up deleting it, but I'm interested if others are using it.

I don't like Pulse's style tbh. I really can't have that icon on my home screen... With feedly, Reeder, and Flipboard out there, not sure what Pulse has going for it, tbh.

So I'm looking at apps that store membership cards. I've so far only stumbled upon CardStar, which is exactly what I'm looking for, but I was wondering if there are any others like it for the sake of comparison?

The new episode of the Build and Analyze Podcast was really cool this week. Lots of "inside baseball" from Marco about Readability and Instapaper.

Thanks, Pristine. I'm downloading it now (on an iPod touch tethered to an iPhone because, holy shit, how does the 20MB podcast limit over 3G still exist?).
