Your options are basically Instacast or Downcast. I like Instacast although I have not tried Downcast.

Check one page back. I would recommend downcast over instacast. Downcast has more features for cheaper now. And downcast is universal. Instacast pissed me off finally when they updated and removed features to an in app purchase.

I wonder how many people are going to fall for this one, haha:

Assholes! how does this shit get by Apple quality control? I wonder if there are App devs, whos sole purpose is to see what app is free and very popular on the App Store and design a cheap replica of that said app and tack on a $0.99 price tag! Son of a biatch!!!

Also, I've never seen Marco in image form only listened to his podcast.... he looks like an adult live action Bobby Hill. Look at that hair and tell me I'm wrong.

Comic Zeal got an update:

Hi all, do we have retina for you! CZ 5 looks wonderful with retina graphics on the new iPad. Hope you all enjoy. Also added auto sorting and the ability to put comics in the home page. Turn both of those on if you're after the 'ol CZ 4 experience.

- Added option to auto-sort a series when new comics are added to it on import.
- Added option to auto-sort the home page after an import.
- Retina graphics throughout.
- Comic Zeal will generate high resolution thumbnails when the device has a retina display.
- Comic Zeal will now try harder to find thumbnails to represent a series if there are dividers present in the series.
- Comics downloaded from bitolithic are no longer backed up.
- The 'new comics are western/manga' is infinitely more reliable.

- Fixed issue where holding down a button on the slider menu would bring up the options of the underlying entry.
- Fixed issue where a comic container text was blurry on a non-retina iPhone.
- Fixed a bug where comic dividers wouldn't accept comics if they had been tapped once after being created (were actually 'closed' but not showing it).
- Fixed issue where comics marked as manga wouldn't start on the left of the page if the zoom level was set to 'page fit'.

Just read a review on the bottom of the page about pages taking time to turn. Not sure if they're using an iPad 2 or 3.

I've been looking to upgrade from Comic Flow to something with better sorting features, and Comic Zeal is what I ultimately settled on, but I wanted to wait until the update came out before jumping on it, but that page loading comment is making me think again about buying it.

Working flawlessly over here. Using iPad3.
Comic Zeal is awesome - you should really give it a try. I know it's $4.99, but it's very, very good.

I trust you, bro. The price isn't too terrible for me for what it advertises, but a smooth reading experience is a must.

I literally just got through reading 4 issues of The Walking Dead and didn't notice any difference in the reading experience...except for retina UI. ;) Still works as perfectly as before.

Yeah because iOS users never complain about price. Especially for quality games that have the gall to charge more than .99.

Except their reaction is exactly how Marco thought it would go. Android users are notorious cheapskates. As a whole they do not pay for apps.

Because there aren't that many worth paying for. At least to me. I have bought a lot more apps for iOS than Android. Maybe it also comes down to the weird app prices, and the fact that you can get gift cards for iTunes and not use a credit card.

When Marco first launched Instapaper on iOS he put out a free version that was very popular for many years. Thats beside all the free promotion he got from Apple with prominent placement in the AppStore. He shouldnt just show up late to the party on Android and expect the users to forgive the hostility he has show to their platform and welcome him with open arms.

Don't even know where to begin with the flaws in this argument. Let's just start with some random commenters are not representative of an entire market. If they were, then everyone in the iOS gaming thread complaining about paid games would show the same for iOS.

Also Greyface is on point -- Instapaper is a far more integral part of iOS. There are arguably much better free (and pay) alternatives on Android that have themselves built up marketshare. It's not the platform's fault that Marco sat on his ass trying to be the poor-man's Gruber/MG making a point while ignoring the opportunity to actually get an early foothold in the market like he did on iOS.

I still think the app will do just fine because of suckers like me.

The one key feature that Instacast has over Downcast for me is the BT audio rewind. So basically, you're listening to a podcast in your car over BT audio, turn your car off, and the iPhone will continue playing for a few seconds before it realizes the connection broke. Instacast has a feature just for this that will auto rewind a few seconds to compensate. Downcast doesn't.

Otherwise, they are fairly equivalent apps.

There are more people in the iOS gaming thread that pay a lot for games and brag about paying a lot for games, than there are people that "complain about paid games." People get made fun of in the iOS gaming thread when they complain about prices. It's not an equivalent analogy.

I'm on iPhone and I'd still recommend people use Pocket over Instapaper anyways. Guy seems like a huge tool as well.

I see all this talk about Instapaper when I've always been a ReadItLater guy (now Pocket). I tried Instapaper and wasn't impressed. Pocket is free and I think it's the better app.

All the talk is mostly because it's a very popular iOS app and many people have been using it for a while. I was using it on Android via InstaFetch and some other stuff. I think numble made some comparisons between Pocket and Instapaper where Instapaper might be better but honestly I'm not familiar enough with the others to opine myself as I've always been an Instapaper guy.

That pic is hilarious though. Do Gruber and Siegler have similar ones? Surely it's a rite of initiation.

For reference since I realize now this is a topic from like three different threads:

anyone using Downcast together with Cyclemeter?

It seems I get no voice announcements from Cyclemeter if I listen to podcasts using Downcast. It worked in Cyclemeter when I used Podcaster so there must be something with Downcast.

I'm in your camp, so used to ReadItLater (Pocket) so accustomed to it, all my browsers (Chrome and Firefox) and my iOS devices have it, not easy to switch. I'm sticking with it.

The only thing that destroys the harmony of "Pocket" equipped apps and browsers is my browser of choice for my iPad which is Mercury, it doesn't support Pocket, only supports "readability" ?? (I think)..so kind of a shame, but seriously I cannot find any browser that supports it anyway.

Such a coincidence, I use Mercury on my iPad 3 as well. I was disappointed at first, but then realized that you can add a bookmarklet to your bookmarks bar in Mercury that can quickly work with Pocket. It works like a charm. Just go to Pocket on your iPad, then "Help" from the main menu, then "how to save" -> "From mobile Safari"

IDK if you've jailbroken your new iPad (I have), so you may or may not have "Browser Changer" installed. If you don't, you can copy paste the link you get from the "From mobile Safari" link in Pocket and paste it into Mercury. If you do have Browser Changer, it will simply open in Mercury and you can install the bookmarklet from there. It gives clear instructions. After you've installed it, whenever you're on a web page, just tap the bookmark on your bookmark bar and it's saved straight to Pocket.

Pocket is so awesome.

^ Ha! I just came back here to post about the new trick I just learned with saving webpages on Mercury on iPad via the "email method" email web page to "add@pocket.com" ...but you just showed me even a quicker and more convenient way to do it!

Damn!

This is totally preventing me from actually reading an article on the Mercury on the iPad, all I do now is send it to the Pocket App (to read later) I select the entire article and use the iPad's native "Speak" feature to have the "Siri" like voice read the entire article to me, I've been using it while I shower (no avatar pun intended) and now I am Listening to this Forbes article while I do my work in front of the computer...

Wow, didn't know about that Speak feature. And it works well with Pocket! We just traded tips for tips. Consider us even.

Any opinions on Any.Do vs Wunderlist? Always searching for a better to-do app - Wunderlist is almost perfect, but I wish things remained in the notification centre until I've actioned them...

I've hopped around on task apps - Any.Do's my fourth one so far, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's still not quite as intuitive as I'd like (the previous one I used was too detailed, Any.Do seems too far to the simple end).

It works for me, though. Love the way it looks - really like Metro.

I have to be honest and say I didn't download and install Any.Do, because of its lack of Firefox and Safari support.

I work on my Desktop at home most, where I use Firefox, I also use Chrome on my Laptop at the studio, so that's two Windows based machines running different browsers and two devices iPhone and iPad, I have to say Wunderlist, recommended to me by AstroLad here, works flawlessly between my four electronic devices. Works great on any browser, and syncs almost instantly, the UI is half decent, it could use a little more options I think in the lines of Font, type and size, but other than that it's fine. I also think supports Android, not sure though, have to double check on that.

Best of all the background (wallpaper) customization can be done both on your iDevices and on your desktop browser.

I just have some issues with the fonts, just seems too small. but other than that, I recommend Wunderlist.

There's also Orchestra recommended to me by "Stat Flow " on here, Orchestra is very, very similar to Wunderlist, I didn't dig deep, but on the surface it's almost the same app, Orchestra also supports multiple (brand) browsers, works great in the iOS environment, but it is in fact in Beta form and I found it to be slow and clunky on Firefox, I was having problems logging in on FF for the first few days, now it logs in, but there's like a progress bar, when you click on the page, the desktop browser side of it is bare minimum, you cannot customize the wallpaper (visually) but you can customize it in the iOS, I also heard it doesn't support Android.

to be honest Orchestra's fonts for the tasks you write down look bigger and better, again, these two apps are very similar, too similar in fact, I just picked Wunderlist for now, because of smoother functionality and performance.

And as far as Any.Do last time I checked it does not support Firefox, so I didn't bother downloading, visually it looks better than the other two above, love to try it out, once it supports something more than Chrome.
