Neon Genesis Evangelion, franchise and video games

With the arrival and celebration of the movie in my country Mexico at the cinema, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.

I started to watch the movies, I had seen the series years ago and I liked it.

It seems to be the closing of the franchise.

I always wanted to buy the Evangelion video games, but because of the region restriction I never played them.

Only on ps3 was this game, but apparently it's a Pachinko

The series itself had a lot of influence on me... and with a different perspective on life.

I always like the character of Misato and more Rei ayanami for being calm, something I share in personality...

I always hate Asuka and dislike her.

I remember that in the video game magazines in Mexico they mentioned Evangelion 64, they never brought it to America and the game always caught my attention.

And this game.

N64 had a neat game. Only thing I remember before they was some weird sega Saturn FMV games.

I didn't like any of them really. The pacing was bad and the action scenes were incomprehensible.
In fact when I saw the first movie Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, it was just a compilation of the first chapters.

I don't know... but as a movie it doesn't make sense, for that I would have better seen the series again.

Yeah, trying to cram a whole series into a couple summary movies was doomed to fail from the start honestly. But my issue is that even for the new movies with new content, the pacing still feels like they are cramming things in. There was just zero context on anything, hell they introduced a new girl and at the end I still had absolutely no idea who she was or even what side she was on.

The movies or the series as whole?
The rebuild movies specifically. The original series is fantastic.

Oh, yeah, there are some incomprehensible nonsense in those films particularly with 3.0 and the final movie. I think the Rebuild movies peaked at 2.0.

I'm watching the TV series right now. Definitely different and a bit confusing at time but I'm enjoying it. Definitely weird, the people act far more like real people than most animes I've seen. Anyway mostly replying to post the best Evangelion video on the internet

There’s been a couple of interesting games that have come out over the years, but most of it’s just garbage meant as an excuse to use the license (with zero quality oversight from Gainax/Khara).

The N64 game was probably the best of the bunch. There was also an iPhone game called Eva Dawn that wasn’t too bad.

I need a good evangelion game but the franchise doesn’t get love. It’s my favorite franchise in any medium and we just have the show and end of evangelion really. The remakes sucked and no games of major note. Sad because the lore is so expansive and could work perfectly for a high budget video game. I got a damn tattoo of evangelion. Give us smth we starving.

I disliked his personality.

I think her backstory MORE than explains her personality. I didn’t care for Asuka when I was watching the show for the first time, then I got to the final 6 episodes or so and Anno (the creator) just bitch slapped me in the face for how ignorant I was for blindly hating her.

Seriously, on a rewatch it’s amazing how many aspects of her personality make total sense when we understand everything that happened with her and her mother. Even how the concept of a “doll” seems to set her off.

The original is one of the best animes of Forever. I loved the intro music and cinematics. Everything about the original; shortcomings and all, will be remembered as being awesome. I saw this entirely before a lot of mofoing weebs were being excreted into our dimension. Suck it, new generational weebs.

The Rebuild series is trash. Steaming, stinking trash. I should have seen the writing on the wall with 3.33, but I still waited the years up to the final movie. And that’s an afternoon I’ll always regret. I wasted a day with one very dear buddy of mine I rarely get the time to see, rewatching 3.33 and seeing 3+1 for the first (and last, as long as I keep my sanity) time. I felt insulted. If you ever feel a game’s remake doesn’t live up to the original, remember: the Evangelion remake will always be worse. Anno is a fucking hack. If you ever want to know what Evangelion is all about, watch the original series and ignore everything else. Please.

I never played an Evangelion game.

My favourite anime, maybe favourite TV show, I like Rebuild 1 + 2: 1 is really just a compilation of TV episodes with the slower parts removed (slow parts are important to me), but 2 is pretty great and I saw it in the cinema in japanese which was ace. I wish I could see EoE in the cinema at some point, maybe during a Scotland Loves Anime event in the future.

Next time you watch the series try this order:

1) Evangelion TV Series episodes 1-24 (With the 21-24 Director's Cut versions)
2) First half of End of Evangelion
3) Episodes 25 & 26
4) Second half of EoE

This way the last two episodes of the series have a little more context.

Optional: Death (True)² after EoE, but probably just watch a week or so after you finish EoE because it requires a lot of mental energy (and time) to process the subtitles if you speak another language, like fucking The Tatami Galaxy level of pausing required lol.

The best thing about it is the characters having these qualities that make you think "he's a selfish dick... shes arrogant... she's so disconnected... she's a funny drunk" at first, but then theres reasons for everything and you feel sorry for them/understand them. Usually, some characters are just kind of insane, but I guess thats a thing IRL too, some people stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

I just can't believe how many times there were in the series I was like "wtf, didn't expect that!" Its hard to explain it to other people too because the backdrop (ie what a trailer would show) for it is not really whats its about. I love the action too, animation and music are superb.

Random favourite scenes: The ends of both E16: "Splitting of the Breast" and E:19 "Introjection", fantastic, the Eva-01 noises are amazing. Oh I just found out they have other titles too, "In sickness unto death" and "A Man's Battle" respectively, I feel like those names comes up either after the intro or on the mid-point break screens but I just forgot though, I haven't watched it in years.

Need to find someone to rewatch it with, its so fun to watch with other people that are into it.

Love it or hate it, Evangelion is still one of those animes everyone and their mother have heard of. Not a lot of shows manage to do that.

I already have my ticket for the special screening of Thrice Upon a Time at the end of the month, and probably gonna be going one more time just because I actually liked that ending (but the manga was better, IMO).

Oh, and I've never played any EVA games, except that mobile game that came out like 4 years ago.

I read through this VN as a teen. It was okay, but no porn so ultimately a disappointment. 6/10
