Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

6 episodes into Torchwood: Miracle Day and I'm enjoying it. It's incredibly dark though. I don't know why Miracle Day has a bad wrap but I've got 4 more eps after this so I suppose it could completely shit the bed still. So far though, I like it.

I'm gonna start this soon, is there any order I should watch this along side Doctor who? I'm on season 3 now.

Anyone go through the orignal Doctor Who on Netflix? Think I might give it a chance after I finish the new one

Producers confirm third season of ‘Lilyhammer’

Fans of the hit Norwegian TV show “Lilyhammer” can count on another season next fall. State broadcaster NRK and Rubicon confirmed that production was underway after agreeing with Netflix on a big new budget.

Newspaper Dagsavisen said the third season of the dramatic comedy starring Steven Van Zandt has a budget of NOK 120 million (USD 20 million), double that of its last season and allowing for more international cast members and more travel. The budget makes it the biggest TV series ever produced in Norway.

Yay!

I forget which seasons correspond to each other but they're not so intertwined that it matters. It's really just more along the oines of catching references a bit.

As for Classic Who... it's a rough watch on Netflix because they have so few episodes on streaming. There's really a ton of serials missing.

Can someone recommend some Lovecraftian horror? Not necessarily based on the mythos, but influenced by it in terms of mood. I've seen the silent Cthulhu movie already.

Absentia
The Corridor
Event Horizon
The Shrine
Cabin in the Woods
John Dies in the End

Those are the only ones that are coming to mind. If you have Unblock/VPN, The MIst (Canada) would also be a great movie to watch.

Just finished Super 8 for the first time. Not what I expected -- I thought it took place in downtown New York and it was a found footage Godzilla thing), but it was still quite good. Reminded me very much of those Spielbergy things from the 80s ... ET, Flight of the Navigator, stuff like that. I will say the first half and second half felt like they were written by two different people. Preteens should love this.

Super 8 was an outstanding movie, of course people hate it at the time it came out which I can't see why

quite enjoyed it. but i like coming of age stories. this one was just under the guise of a monster flick. i can see why people might not like especially if you were expecting cloverfield. lol

If anybody needs to find a chick flick to sit through, don't let the poster fool you and check this out. Actually, it's beyond tolerable and I found myself enjoying it and not just because the two sisters are really pretty. It's the director's first film so you know he's not phoning it in, it tries to avoid the conventions of these kinds of movies[which makes my skin crawl] even if it is a bit predicable.
Also, it's based off Sense & Sensibility and it's kind of fun trying to imagine what specific elements of the film are emulating the novel.

Aww, a no go in the US.

Haven't had much time to watch lately but I've been passing the time with ken burns.

Thanks. Just watched Absentia, and it was very good. Definitely inspired by HPL.

I've seen Event Horizon and the Shrine, not so sure the latter can be considered Lovecraftian simply because of the amount of gore and the not-so-subtle demon. Cabin in the Woods and John Dies in the End are next on my list.

The Lair of the White Worm is about as lovecraftian as you can get on Netflix. Totally bizarre movie though.

Safety Not Guarenteed was awesome. Great comedy/mystery. It kept you wondering the whole time if this guy was for real or not.

Everyone watch Safety Not Guaranteed

Listen to them! I just watched it and it was fantastic. A really charming film. The cast was great. It is definitely a film that keeps you wondering.

I was really surprised they went there with the ending. Kind of made me like the movie more than I would have if they played it completely real.

I honestly thought they were going to just fade to black and leave it up you to decide if the guy was real or not. But I really liked the ending.

Trying out netflix again for the first time over a year. What the fuck is up with the PS3 app. Less than half of the screen is actually dedicated to browsing stuff. It doesn't seem to want to stream in HD either -___-
Anyone know if I can force HD?

Mine plays in HD fine, PS3 too. I think playback quality depends on your connection.

have just started fringe, yesterday. really enjoying it.

Now I'm concerned that comcast will re-institute their bandwith caps where I am, houston. they hit atlanta Dec 1 and Nashville before that.....that would seriously kill my netflix time..must binge while I can.

Greenberg was interesting, not sure where I really stand on it yet. I can see why a lotta people wouldn't like it though, because Ben Stiller's character comes off as totally unlikable for the most part. I do know that I liked Frances Ha more, though

It made my day seeing American Horror Story Asylum pop up on Netflix. Was late to the AHS boat and only started watching live with Coven. Binge watched Murder House and have been waiting for this forever! On episode 4 already :)

FYI: There is now a Subtitle Appearance setting under Your Account which (on supported devices like Roku3, PS3, etc) allows pretty wide variations in settings of subtitles. It's pretty finicky and doesn't always take on the first try so if it doesn't work straight off, keep at it.

With these subtitle settings adjustments and region-switcher like Uno-Telly, I am able to make titles with forced subs much less obtrusive (for example, I figured out a setting to pretty much make all black-text in 2.35 movies appear in the black bar, which pretty much makes it invisible).

Fool around with it. You can do some interesting stuff with this setting.

Zack and Miri make a porno: It was a remarkably mundane rom-com with lots of bad language and some tits. I like Seth Rogen playing himself. I like Elizabeth Banks and she shows a little range, I guess. I couldn't figure out why the director used Jason Mewes and thought he looked a little rough, but hey. Then I realized this was Kevin Smith making a Kevin Smith movie. I can't believe I didn't know, which -- and I know this sounds dumb -- makes me think even less of it. Not that he's some fantastic director or something but I just figured his stuff would be getting better by now. Made me smile a few times. Pretty formulaic paint-by-titty-numbers piece from Smith. Don't bother.

So, since Hola Unblocker does the same thing as Unblock-Us and is free I think I'll be switching to using that. Hopefully I don't run into any problems. Just hoping to save a few bucks.

Probably going to try it out finally getting into Orphan Black.

Not exactly the same thing as it doesn't work on standalone players so you can't get 5.1 surround sound out of it.

I think Smith feels the same in retrospect, he was retreading old ground. Check out Red State to see his last movie, it's very very different and I really enjoyed it.

I gotta say I think I'm a big Dr who fan now. Actually looking forward to going back and watching s1. On S5 now, and I can say it's pretty much gotten better every season.

....Karen Gillan is pretty hot

Welcome to the fold! haha. Definitely give them all a watch. US Netflix only has it through S6 while Canadian Netflix has the first half of S7. Not sure about other regions. S7 just ended this year and there was a 50th Anniversary Special as well as a Christmas Special. Once you've seen all that, you should join the Who-GAF threads where there's a mixture of complaints, praises and discussion of all things timey-wimey!
