If you enjoy the Anthony Bourdain stuff but want less gruff attitude and more humor, I'll Have What Phil's Having is a really enjoyable (and short) food/travel series. We were watching it on PBS but missed a couple episodes, so I'm glad to see it showing up on Netflix already.

Gangs of New York (New Zealand): This felt unnecessarily long. The draft riots felt rushed and half-assed. Overall, I thought it was alright. The real reason to watch this is for Daniel Day-Lewis, who freaking killed it.

The Avengers II: Age of Ultron (Canada): It is an action movie, a good one at that. Not sure what the hatred is about, but I'm sure it is something nerd related. My only complaint is that
Vision
looked silly as fuck.

A Better Life (Mexico): Great indie flick about an immigrant father trying to provided a better life for his son. This really hit home as I can fully relate to their struggles. If you enjoyed Sin Nombre, I think this is worth checking out.

Southpaw (Mexico): I thought this was a great movie. Jake pulls in another fantastic performance. Especially the intensity he showed. The fighting/boxing scenes were really well choreographed. Fans of Rocky and boxing should watch this.

Paddington (Mexico): Surprisingly good movie. It was funny and silly, really well acted/voiced and it had a good story. It had me entertained from start to finish.

There is a lot of good movies leaving in January. I own most of them on blu-ray anyway, still kinda disappointing though when looking at what's replacing them.

How is this service? I currently pay $40 a year for a VPN, which I use for a variety of reasons, but a lifetime subscription is pretty darn appealing... maybe I could give up the VPN and just use this.

Is this just for Netflix or can it work for other things? Mainly BBC iPlayer.

Edit: More importantly, how long have these guys been around? If I'm purchasing a 30-year subscription, I'd like to know they won't disappear for at least a good ten years.

They are almost all the same shit.

There is no guarantee they will be around five, ten, twenty, etc, years from now.

ha what?

The japanese original is a cute if unremarkable show, this adaptation got the full shitty american 90s dub treatment, changed names (both the show and the characters), several episodes cut (48 vs. 40), it completely ditched the original soundtrack and replaced it with shitty new music and they even went edit crazy, I just watched the first episode but instead of starting with the actual first scene they edited in a scene from a completely different episode that shows the main character in bed and then they edited the scene further by adding a premonition via dream that shows all five girls transforming (probably in case someone missed all five appearing in the opening credits fifteen seconds earlier).
All changes are completely unnecessary, Saban Brands sucks!
Expected, but still as feared.

Queen of Earth was pretty amazing. I was hyped to see it when I saw it mentioned on one of those "movies to see" threads a few months back but it never showed in my state. A beautifully shot and acted psychological thriller. The cinematography kinda reminded me of Andrei Tarkovsky's films so that's always a good thing in my book. Probably not for everyone as it's quite a slow burn but it's probably one of the best movies I've seen all year. Tension was pretty suffocating at times.

I just need to watch the last episode of Making a Murderer, but this really has to be one of the most horrible documentaries I have ever seen..

It's really mindboggling...

If you need something to watch this afternoon / evening, The Muppet Christmas Carol is back up in the UK. (According to Flixsearch that's the only region that has it, too.)

That January-trade off is absolutely terrible, wow. Sure, they are up somehwere else but for the normal user? Yikes.

Half of that stuff will either leave and come back eventually or have their contract renewed the same day same week and pop back up. Also whenever stuff is listed for incoming it's usually somewhere between 80%-50% of the stuff actually added during the month.

It really baffles me that Netflix doesn't publish their own list each month of what's coming. You'd think they'd want to shout that from the roof tops. And not only that but then blogs and news sites could link to that post and get them more traffic and visibility. It'd be like free advertising. Any guesses as to why they don't do that?

GK86

Homeland Security Fail
Most likely it is the movie studios that doesn't want those lists. Since it would probably hurt their rental/DVD/BR/digital sales. If you knew in advance that film X was coming to Netflix, you wouldn't rent/buy.

Assuming you are the type of person to rent/buy.

Anybody looking for something Christmas which isn't the usual, check out A Moody Christmas, it's on Netflix Canada. It's Australian and spans 6 Christmas's through 6 episodes. It's a drama/darkish comedy.

Cross-post with the Hundred Eyes thread - Marco Polo series 2 will be released "Summer 2016" as confirmed in the end credits.

This leads me to suspect that Hundred Eyes was put together to try and tide fans over once somebody realised how long it was going to be between series.

Really surprising that is coming out so late.

Yeah, that release date was rhe only surprising thing about the episode... But not the only disappointing thing. Kinda felt like nothing happened.

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
Up in Netflix Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden:

American Sniper
Inherent Vice
Jupiter Ascending

Just saw that too. Interested in watching all three so really need to make time for them.
