Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

Shudder and Hulu are eating their lunch. Shudder has a lot of older/B movies and Hulu has a decent selection.

Netflix picks up a ton of horror movies earlier in the year and they all expire at the end of September to save money.

Just like if they have Groundhog Day it usually disappears at the end of January.

Holy shit Re-Animator is pretty awesome for anyone that wants a scary/bloody/funny movie for Halloween.

I watched it the other day. I have had it in my Q for years but never watched it. I thought it looked/sounded dumb.

Boy, I was wrong. Really great film. It was a fun movie with lots of gore.

Jack Reacher keeps coming up on my Watch It Again list, presumably because the sequel is out. I've always wondered why more companies don't put films up on Netflix and push them right before the sequels are released.

They do. Or rather, Netflix will attempt to acquire the rights for a period of time right before a sequel. But so does every other service and network. And some of those networks are within the same corporate umbrella.

The Expanse has come to Swedish Netflix!
Best space-sci-fi since BSG!

The Expanse is fantastic but the first episode does not do a good job of world building. It just barrels through exposition and ends up just being confusing to people who haven't read the book.

I would recommend people to read quick primer on the series or be prepared to pay close attention to the first episode.

I was pretty disappointed with The White Helmets. At a mere 40 minutes the documentary was far too short to actually delve into any substantial narrative. All it basically amounted to was "These are the White Helmets. They do good work. The end!"

I mean, what little we got was compelling, but it also felt like someone chopped off the second half of a longer movie.

Exactly how I felt about it. What really ticked me off was the stuff that was there, like you said, was compelling. It could have been as powerful as 'Winter on Fire.'

Just finished watching Swingers.

Oh man, what a gem; I can't believe this was my first time seeing it. I wanna go out to a club now. I'm gonna be so tempted to tell my friends that they're money and they don't even know it.

But seriously, that scene where he leaves like 6 messages on that lady's phone... ugh! One of the best, hardest to watch cringe scenes ever.

Not in the US, I'm assuming? I wanted to check out the first movie but it's not on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu anymore despite having been on all three over the summer. Lame.

How many Zach's out of 10 does The Expanse get in your opinion Ratsky?

Netflix's documentaries are usually great, so I was definitely taken by surprise by how slight it felt.

Right now I'm about to watch The Ivory Game - I hope it doesn't disappoint!

Finished S1 of The Expanse. Highly recommended.

Wish that was up in the US.

For the first time in forever I logged onto the Netflix website today. I normal watch and manage my account through my Roku. The recommendations are way better on the website then the app. I don't know why they would be different as you would think it just runs a single algorithm on its servers and pushes it out.

Foreign == Irish by the way ;)

This is a belter of a feel-good movie. 80s Ireland. Kids gets transferred out of his posh school to the horrible local church-run school. Hates it, obviously. Meets older mysterious girl. Lies & says he's in a band & wants her in their music video. Has to form a band.

It's ridiculously fun, charming, filled with 80s music/fashion from the likes of Duran Duran, the Cure, etc, captures the mood perfectly. It's by the team behind "Once", another big music driven film.

Highly recommended. 97% RT

If you haven't seen Once they also did Begin Again which is another great film where music plays a big part.

Lame, I can no longer search for movies and shows with Japanese subtitles unless my interface language is set to Japanese. It just redirects me to English now when I put in the URL. Anyone know a workaround or do I have to swap my language every time or just keep it in Japanese?

For some reason I keep encountering an "unexpected error" when I try to watch Spooks. I've looked up the error and it seems I need to update Widevine, but what I don't understand is that I can watch e.g. Deep Space Nine just fine.

I saw The Giver and The Lovely Bones which were both excellent movies. The I saw The Imitation Game and I thought it was dull but somehow I watched the entire thing. Now I kinda know how computers started out though.

I don't think "The Fall" warranted its own thread so I'll say it here: season 3 was not worth my time. Pretty big letdown after how much potential was there in season 1 (and to a lesser extent season 2).
