Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

Seems to be fine. I just quickly changed region like 4 or 5x, no problems. I just had to quit and restart my browser. Unotelly and Unblock work the same I imagine.

Still doesn't work no matter what I do.....rebooting computer, clearing cache/etc....nothing. The message it's giving me isn't exactly a random one- all regions outside of the US are restricted. Sounds like something they would come up with for people who "abuse" their accounts. I'd say enjoy it while you can.

Considering how shit the US selection is compared to other regions, I'm almost considering cancelling it altogether and getting a multi-disc rental membership and sticking with my Amazon Prime as a crappy alternative and Hulu Plus for the Criterion collection.

As a random observation - hyperbole is such an internet word. I only ever see it used on the internet, and rarely used in any books, journal articles or reports. Always makes me laugh.

Wait what?

The issue is that Unblockus isn't working for me at all, on a PS3.

It's already set up through my router, not the PS3.

Could that be your problem? I have mine set up on the PS3 not the router (even though the site says to do it on the router that looked too complicated for me).

EDIT: I think you guys are panicing with no real evidence here. If Netflix were shutting down proxies I'm sure they'd announce the fact. Working fine on my account as of 12 hours ago at least.

I'm having problems switching to non-US regions on my PS3. It's only come about in the last few days. I had look and there's a big article on the Unblock-Us support page with suggested work arounds. It's something to do with Netflix trying to route traffic through the fastest servers (which aren't Unblock-Us, obviously) to increase performance on PS3.

Nothing to suggest it's a concerted effort by Netflix to stop region swapping.

Yea I've seen no issues here on my PC. Still working like a charm.

Just got the Canada collection last night and it was amazing. So many movies I want to watch. Will cover my subscription for the next few months.

The free script on Firefox still works, as does changing the DNS settings on the PS3 to access the US content. Still don't understand why people pay for this service.

Why do people pay? Because they can easily switch between all 10 Netflix regions with a press of a software button/switch. That's why. No changing DNS every time they want to change regions, it just works. We are talking about people in the US accessing other regions, which would not be possible without these services.

Your guys hyperbole on how shitty US netflix selection is, is amusing.

It's a bit of hyperbole, but it sure feels like crap after no longer being able to access any other region. Ever since I started region swapping the majority of stuff I've been watching has been on non-US regions, and most of the stuff I was searching for last night on moreflicks.com only came up on non-US regions (if at all). But whatever.

Anyway...still worried about what this problem means. I'm not too comforted by the fact that most other people aren't experiencing it. The message I got really is pretty strange. I mean they blocked my account from all other regions and put up a message specifically saying I'm blocked from other regions. For what other purpose could they have created that message?

You can easily switch for free on pc/laptop.

You should only pay if you REALLY need access on a PS3 or other device.

Yes, and most of us do. We don't like to hunch over our PCs to watch. I use my Blu-Ray player to watch. Also you can't get DD+ out of the web app, AFAIK there is no way to switch for the Win8 app right now (outside of using a pay service), just plug-ins that work with the web app.

Yeah, I really liked Sweden and Canada's selection. UK has the Hobbit up too. I don't think it's really hyperbole to say the U.S. Netflix selection is poor compared to some of the other regions. They seem to get a larger selection of newer movies, for instance. It would suck if Netflix is cracking down on Unblock-Us and let's hope that's not the case.

Strangely the US has a bigger selection of BBC shows than the UK Netflix. Swings and roundabouts.

That's generally how licensing tends to work out. I'm not entirely sure why aside from legislation that prevents foreign companies from entering domestic markets to prevent domestic business from being over powered.

The BBC case is odd considering nearly everyone in the UK has to pay a TV license FEE, which goes towards the BBC so they can continue to broadcast and produce TV shows. So for them to widely more available in the US is... odd.

But the original point was that some might think the US selection was terrible, others might think it was good. All depends what you're after, I guess.

It's really just the a combination of licensing and that generally the US consumes American TV and Movies more readily than Foreign. Conversely, American TV and Movies is consumed in Foreign markets much more.

So licensing prevents American studios from blocking or charging Netflix too much for the rights to stream in Foreign territories and it's profitable. Meanwhile Netflix doesn't bother acquiring Foreign products to stream in the US unless they have a reason to believe it will be reasonably popular. Netflix didn't get the original The Girl with The Dragon Tatoo series until after the American remake was being made and marketed.

And a lot of studios just feel that way in general about Foreign made products, even when the originals are already critically acclaimed. So you have studios remaking everything. Le Femme Nikita becomes Point of No Return. Prisoners of War becomes Homeland. British series and Anime are pretty much the only things that don't get a remake and even some British series still get the remake treatment (Shameless, The IT Crowd, etc..)

You probably already know all this though and I'm just on a bit of a tangent I suppose. But the point really is that American made media that Americans watch is almost always available on Netflix much sooner in other regions (if it ever even makes it to Netflix in the US at all). But the US region of Netflix doesn't carry a lot of other regions TV and Movies so I can't imagine, for example, someone from Sweeden really wanting to access the US Netflix for Sweedish media the same way that an American would want access to the Sweedish region for American media.

I would guess that less than 1/10 of my Netflix viewing is done on a PC or laptop.

Wow.

I'm 100% based on my desktop. A nice 24" monitor.

Ditto, although I don't think it's so much the norm anymore. Lots of people are just using a Roku (like my parents) or PS3 (like my friend does). I'm not exactly "hunching over my pc" though. I have a 24" 1080p monitor that I watch from my couch.

Any good zombie recommendations? I listed a few good ones on the other page (The Horde, Mutants, Exit Humanity) but you really have to dig to find anything worthwhile

I have my pc hooked up to my HDTV. Best of both worlds.

Except for the stucking using the shitty Silverlight web client and not having access to the highest quality stream part.

I also use a PC connected to HDTV for most of my streaming, but that doesn't mean I like it for Netflix.

Streaming quality aside, I find using Netflix on my PC to be about 800x better than using it on my parents' Roku. I can't remember which Roku version they have though, I know the netflix app is a bit different on each one. It's the XS or something.

State of Emergency is decent.
Land of the Dead
Rammblock

If you want to use the term zombie loosely; Phase 7, Extinction.

If you have VPN:

(In Sweden)
Dawn of the Dead
The Crazies
Contagion

You are a crazy dedicated lol. And ou have to, man. Some great piece of writing and one of the best new dramas.

I have a PC hooked up as well, but as far as I know the web client for Netflix is stereo only, which aside from most TV shows is a deal breaker for me. PS3 is my appliance of choice for Netflix.

Me too.

I stopped watching any non-HD show a while ago unless it was a classic TV show. I now skip movies that arent in 5.1. I hate seeing big blockbuster movies put up and see it's in shitty stereo.

Ok so more on my region switching problem. The unblock-us support agent asked if I had the DVD option because that can cause a problem. Well I signed up for DVDs last night, just a little before I encountered this problem. Anyone here have the DVD option and still able to switch regions?

GK86

I had both, but they were both separate (different accounts). The unblock region switching would mess up the DVD side of things. It didn't (of course) mess up the streaming side.

What would happen do your DVD subscription if you switched regions? Is it possible to create a separate account using the same credit card, address and email? Then, say, only access the DVD account on my phone or something...

It would switch like it does normally, but then say that DVDs aren't available in your country. Couldn't add/see your q. Would only let you browse the streaming selection.

I had both accounts under the same card/address. Can't have them under the same email though.

That's what I did, used my phone to switch around/add/remove stuff on my DVD q. Well, as long as you are doing it by device settings and not router settings.

Awesome news! This show is SO good! I am almost done with the season, but I don't want it to end!

I'm halfway through, but I feel the same way. Netflix knocked it out of the park with this one. There isn't one character that you hate. I even like the asshole pornstache guard.
