Helicopter Canada

It's exactly what it sounds like: Footage of Canada shot from the chopper but with one extraordinary temporal benefit: It was shot in 1965! [don't worry, it's still very much HD]

This is the golden years that we hear from our fathers and grandfathers, what we've seen so many times in film and television and history books but it's real life and all the details are before us. You get a real sense that this maybe an idyllic time with booming industries, innocent past times and untouched endless landscapes.
They even show Toronto's city hall when it was brand new and the vibe of this film makes you ill when you think about people like Rob Ford running the place now.

Shame it's only 50min long. Watch it now, it's only available until Nov 15.

Nice, Only God Forgives! Loved Drive, looking forward to seeing that one.

Too bad about Hannibal, thought it was the show at first and got excited.

Sweet. I've been wanting to see Only God Forgives for a while but it never came out at a theater near me. And I have all the MST3k sets (except s9/10) but having the episodes on Netflix is great cause I'm unbelievably lazy and its easier to hit play then dig the dvds out.

Start of December:

Bad Lieutenant

Now there's no reason for this to not be an HDTGM episode! :b

I watched Spring Breakers...not even gonna lie...because of the women in it. The movie itself is atrocious as I expected. The party girls are all hot though. James Franco kind of makes it entertaining for a bit but, it's not enough to save this boobie coated heaping pile of cow manure.

Honestly you're better off watching a porno. It's more realistic than this movie.

I think Vampire Diaries jumped the shark somewhere with this whole
cure
thing in season five. It's just got so silly and OMGWTFBBQ that I don't care anymore.

Continued with this season last night.....against my better judgement. This show just doesn't know where it wants to go....but it's an entertaining trainwreck so I keep watching. I'm happy Klaus got his own series (The Originals). Maybe it will be better than what this show has turned into.

The Originals is a superior show for me. The Vampire Diaries is still entertaining in a sort of, "I don't really care about the plot much any more but, it's fun watching vampires" sort of way. The Originals contains a lot more badassery since the original vampires are not sissies. Although the dude playing Marcel makes me hate him. I can't tell if it's because his acting is good or because it's horrid.

It feels like with season 5 especially TVD threw whatever idea of a plot they had out the window and just said fuck it. That's the only thing keeping this show entertaining really. The teen drama is a bit much.

With the whole cure story line there are a million plot holes introduced. The whole idea of a cure
is just stupid to me.

Once you get to the backdoor pilot for Originals (it is episode 20 of season 4), just jump over to Originals. It is the far superior show. The new pilot was iffy, but after that they cranked the awesome up to 10 and kept it there.

Is it bad that I had to look up which # that was in the series?

I watched Europa Report yesterday, if you enjoy sci-fi, it was pretty great. Its kinda described as a thriller, but I wouldn't go that far. Not sure how long its been on there, but its worth a watch.

Spring Breakers is supposed to be taken literally as much as American Psycho (aka not at all, you're ridiculous if you do)

Good to see the only Pirates movie worthy of the "average" score is on Netflix now.

Spring Breakers was bizarre (I'd never seen a Korine movie prior to it). There were some aspects I liked, it's just... different. Idk. I probably wouldn't watch it again, but I don't think i'd call it "bad."

Finally watched Skyfall today. Really liked that. It was nice to have a low stakes villain so to speak. He didn't want to rule the world or blow it up. It was focused more on the characters, which was nice.

And of course, since it was Roger Deakins shooting it, it was gorgeous.

I thought Skyfall was one of the best Bond movies ever, myself.
I know a lot of people disliked it, but it was just such a perfect balance.

Agreed. Loved how they started to integrate old school staples of the franchise in as it went. And when the classic themed kicked in once he got THE car. So good.

I hated the ending!!!!!!
James Franco gets dropped like a sack of shit and the girls have God mode turned on.

It wasn't take literally by me. I love the genre they were aiming for. However, the main characters were shit. They weren't funny, they weren't interesting, and they weren't disturbing. They were hot and that was the only thing that they had to offer, in any context. They were essentially lifeless bodies that were easy to look at. It had the entertainment value of a porno. That's what I mean with my review of it.

James Franco rocked it in the movie. Everyone else sucked, even for the type of movie they were trying to pull off.

That was pretty weird. Still trying to make sense of it, but i did think it was kinda funny how Franco just got killed right off the bat

Spring break forever, bitches.

The bold is the point of the movie, obviously.

The reason why the girls have "god mode" on at the end of the film is because consequences have failed to make an impact on their reality. Violence makes as much of an impact as a video game. Sex is a meaningless symbol. This is all thematic richness that Spring Breakers approaches with an intellectual power. I should mention I did a thorough critical analysis of the film, if anyone wants to read it here. Spoilers abound, obviously.

The detractors of the film sure like to talk about porn though, I've discovered that much.

That works for me. I thought about the end a bit after I watched it, but I never got around to reading any essays after. Read the review, good shit. Almost makes me want to watch the movie again, but admittedly, it wasn't the kind of movie I can really get engaged in while watching. Regardless, I feel like it's kinda unfair to write it off as a "dumb" movie

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
My old, slow-as-fuck Roku (XDS) won't get the UI update, unfortunately. I doubt it could handle it anyway.

I will read this when I get home for sure!

Great write up. I was hoping you'd go into depth on the slow motion montage of the "missions" but I suppose that doesn't need as much explanation as the juxtaposition there is pretty blatant (but I felt and still feel like it was absolutely brilliant).

I definitely feel like anyone who has watched the film should read your write up and then watch it again and then they may be able to take more away from the viewing. Great stuff man.

Nice write up. I had already picked up on most of what you had in it in my own version but, I can see why someone would enjoy it. I'll give on me saying the girls offer nothing more than hotness, of which I was being facetious because it's the Internet and who cares.... This has turned into an actual debate so on that I'll upgrade it to: A movie I just didn't enjoy because I wasn't interested enough in it to want to see the full depth of it. The writing seems to be well done and thought out very well. The actual, literal, people in the movie did not engage me in a way that initiated any kind of response, whether it be creatively, emotionally, imaginative, logical, etc. For example, you could have put a pair of pants in place of the girl who got shot in the arm and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. That's an exaggeration, obviously but, it best relays my thought process on what I actually mean when I say I did not like this movie.

Part of my issue with it is that I watch movies to be taken on a journey (I can describe this further if need be but, right now I'm short on time). I spend all day being paid to think so when I get to a movie I like to close the analytic part of my mind and let the creative/imaginative part take over. I want a response of some sort to what is happening. It's why I love horror so much. I want the movie to move me. I don't care if it's shock, drama, comedy, or w/e but, I want it to be engaging enough that I am moved by it in any direction. For someone viewing in this manner it may not be any good to them, which it wasn't for me.

That and I also watched it while writing code so I couldn't give it my full attention (full disclosure...lol). I wouldn't have anyways though, it's a background movie to me. Nothing can or will change that. That's the beauty of movies, and media in general. Nothing attracts everyone but, everyone is attracted to something. You may (or may not) hate it but, I can give you a similar write up on why I believe Rob Zombie's version of Halloween is a great movie. People will fight me until they're blue in the face for a number of reasons of why "it's bad." That's the beauty in the whole process though.

EDIT: my grammar is atrocious (I view language as communicative as long as information is understood between parties) so I apologize for any mistakes. I'm tired of editing this though...haha

Just watched Aziz's new special. Funny stuff. I love him. The special fell flat towards the end though. The marriage bit was amazing.

The marriage bit was unreal. He seriously picked the best possible people to talk to during crowd work. I was losing it at that part.
