Netflix |OT| Where Binge Watching is Encouraged

I restarted Arrow from the beginning (before, I watched the first 8 or so episodes) again. The acting is rough. But the action is really well done. I'm powering through it since it picks up around 10ish I think.

Also started Chuck, first impressions, great little comedy with some heart.

Probably will be my two series for now.

Second half of the first season of Arrow is great. Especially great season finale. The acting gets better, but nothing that will win any Emmys or anything.

As for Chuck, the first season is fun, but the second season is one of those rare perfect TV seasons. Season 2 is why the show got such a passionate and loyal fanbase. Seasons 3-5, while being a big step down from 2, are still a lot of fun.

The good thing with Chuck is that it never loses that heart.

And just for kicks, I will share one of my favorite moments from Chuck. A scene that is all I can think about anytime I hear this song: (non spoilery)

I normally don't do shipping people but with Chuck & Sarah u can't help but not too. They are one of the greatest tv couples of all time in my opinion.

I ended up really enjoying Only God Forgives. The cinematography was pure joy to watch and the soundtrack was divine. Not surprised at the mixed reviews, because it's probably not for everyone. Gave me a real David Lynch vibe.

I feel similarly. I thought it was good overall but it was very... unique.. in it's story delivery. But the cinematography, music, and overall tone of the film was great.

I've been watching Annika Bengtzon Crime Reporter and it's alright, Malin Crépin is pretty good (and hot) but the sleuthing can be a little weak/convenient at times.

Anyway... I'm enjoying it, at least until the subtitles stopped working a few eps in. Kinda bummed about it.

I'm seeing a pattern where you like to watch shows with hot female leads.

Not that I blame you. :)

I just watched two documentaries about online communities last night.

The first was (A)Sexual, which I turned on expecting to watch 10 minutes of but ended up being pretty heartwarming and an entertaining watch. It chronicles the nicest boy ever and his quest to form a community for fellow asexuals. Its very quaint, theres lots of footage of them sitting around the floor in a kitchen all laughing and talking excitedly and they go to the Pride parade in SF and its funny because they are all HELLA awkward. The organizer, David Jay also rollerblades literally everywhere. He rollerblades down steps. Its a good watch, not exactly what I would call "illuminating" though. I've actually had the unique and semi-humbling experience of trying to court an Asexual and the movie really didn't go any deeper into the philosophies or experiences of those in the community than my friendship and time with her did. The film's main concern is "hey, we exist" rather than a deep dive. Its still a poorly understood phenomena and the movie does have the talking head devil's advocate guy who just says its something people identify as while they work out their other sexuality for themselves. IDK, fun watch.

The second was so awful I just couldn't stop watching. It was about the Browncoats, fans of that show Firefly. It was called "done the impossible" and its fucking awesome. People break down into tears during their interviews about when the show got cancelled. The film mainly centers around the lead up to the release of Serenity. They did get most of the cast to do some interviews it seems like, and Nathon Fillion does not take it seriously at all. And the few clips of Joss Whedon being interviewed make it seem like they just ambushed him at Comicon. He's just standing in a super crowded convention center in front of some merch. Its really quite strange, but the sincerity of the people showcased here is definitely something to feel good about it. Even if you're watching a grown ~55yr old couple talk about the loss of Firefly like they lost a child.

Also, in the Asexual documentary there is this woman who is an exact doppelganger of john carmack. Right down to the weirdly fuzzy thing bangs, and patterns of speech. Its so weird, SHE IS JOHN CARMACK

This just shot to the top of my queue.

The Bletchley Circle.

Gets a solid recommendation from me. Interesting setting/concept. Well acted. About to watch the final episode. Might type up some final thoughts afterward.

I just watched Adventureland and really liked it.

I watched about half of it before I realized it was supposed to take place in 1987. I was just like "man, these are the hippest kids ever." The movie wasn't perfect, there were some tonal inconsistencies, I felt. I really bought into the drama and romance so I absolutely despised Rego's character and his inane injections into otherwise engaging dramatic scenes. There was this really sweet moment between Brennen and M and then it just cuts to Rego pissing on a window... It sells itself short, its almost like the movie didn't have enough confidence to just be what it is: a super melancholic experience. Theres the shape of a really incredible movie somewhere beneath, but the movie just wasn't sensitive enough. I LOVED the fact that the characters never really talk about their problems and only talk about their parents problems, etc. Really touching movie, and Kristen Stewert is actually pretty great. I'll also watch anything with Jesse Eisenberg.

I don't know, there were so many perfect and clever moments, but it just wasn't assembled right. It needed about 10 minutes cut from it and a bit more focus and it would have been a legitimately GREAT movie. I recommend everyone see it.

Nice, Bronson. Been meaning to check it. World's Greatest Dad is really good, definitely recommended if you want something good with Robin Williams in it.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.

Both of these were available before, but I never even realized that they went missing. Maybe I'll actually get around to watching them this time!

Actually kinda looking forward to watching this for the cheesiness

I'll be checking out Red Dawn this weekend. I can't lie..I actually want to watch it and almost rented it once back in the day.

Just finished watching it. Lots of cheesiness and America Fuck Yeah . Although, I expected both going in and it didn't take away anything for me. The love birds in the movie fell flat and sometimes they end up getting
weapons and moving in and out of places like nothing
but overall, a good mindless action fun. I never watched the original so maybe that helps.

Another observation I had about Adventureland and Kristen Stewert is that I would see a Twister remake starring Kristen Stewert as Helen Hunt's character in a second.

I watched Spring Breakers...not even gonna lie...because of the women in it. The movie itself is atrocious as I expected. The party girls are all hot though. James Franco kind of makes it entertaining for a bit but, it's not enough to save this boobie coated heaping pile of cow manure.

Honestly you're better off watching a porno. It's more realistic than this movie.

I hated the ending!!!!!!
James Franco gets dropped like a sack of shit and the girls have God mode turned on.

That was pretty weird. Still trying to make sense of it, but i did think it was kinda funny how Franco just got killed right off the bat

I know there was a big discussion on this movie last page, but I have to agree with the above. Come for the girls, stay for Franco. He was the reason I didn't turn off the movie half way through. And if you like random shots every 2 seconds, this movie is right up your alley.

Been watching the pot comedy "green."

It's bad, but I'm enjoying it. If you like weeds you probably enjoy it, it's especially interesting because it honestly feels like a student film. It's that low end. So it's really interesting to see all their stupid littl cost saving tricks etc. serviceable. I'm about 1 hour in, I'd say just about at the beginning of the third act. It's taken two sittings to get that far because its not too engaging. Recommended.

Not that there's been many, but I haven't seen a bad Korean film in my life. Watching A Company Man right now and it's great. It's a dark comedy about a dude who works for a company, a company that specializes in assassination. It's not that funny but it's excellent so far and I'm not even 45min in.

It was what I expected. I was able to put it on, put myself on cruise control, and be entertained with it.

I haven't seen the entirety of the original, I watched it once and fell asleep. I have a hard time with anything Patrick Swayze is in. He's just really hard for me to watch.

Does netflix not let you organize your queue anymore? I had everything grouped together in a very specific order, but now it seems to be partly by date added and partly random instead.

Mine is like that too. The first half is by date added and the second half is randomly assorted. I think you can organize your queue on Netflix.com though.

I need a show that is really immersive. Prefferably sci fi or adventure. Help GAF. I hope y'all know what I mean. Examples: I felt lost, bsg original Stargate , star trek enterprise and even skins made me feel this way. Recommendations? Show should be heavily serialized.

Prison Break- Adventure(really the first two seasons, but the first one is so good).
Fringe- SciFi
Supernatural- SciFi/Adventure
Burn Notice- Adventure
X-Files- SciFi/Adventure
Psych- Adventure

Not really what you are looking for in terms of length, but short and sweet and well worth the watch:

Jericho- SciFi/Adventure
Terriers- Adventure
Friday Night Lights (drama, but it will stuck you in)
Luther
Hell on Wheels

Kinda used the term Adventure loosely. Based off what you listed above, I would say check out Prison Break, Fringe and Supernatural. Give Friday Night Lights a shot, since it is one of the best dramas around. And it is the rare perfect series ending. Luther and Terriers are sleeper hits. Both are really short though.
