Neverhood Appreciation Thread

Upon reminiscing, I realized just how great this game was. Not only this, but Skull Monkeys, and hell, to an extent, boom bots. Actually, not really boom bots, but just follow me here. It was funny, had a great art style, enjoyable gameplay, and it still looks good. The puzzles were clever and original, and they never got repetitive! Let the appreciation begin!

OH GOD! New wallpaper day!

I played lots of adventure games. We didn't have a very good computer growing up, and there was an abundance of cheap adventure games, so I played bonkers amounts.

The Neverhood is the best adventure game ever made.

Skullmonkeys is the most clever, possibly the most humorous side-scroller ever made.

Boombots was okay, but was hindered by serious problems. But it was an original!

The claymation was awesome, as well. Long live The Neverhood and its ilk!

Here's a little bonus room, because I know you've had it tough
Here's a little bonus tune, about collecting real cool stuff.

Yes, here's a little bonus room, where you can play.
Don't be frightened, don't run away.
You can linger, 'cus I'm your video friend.
Think of me as a father figure, with a hand to lend.

Here's a little bonus room, where you don't have to worry.
Take your sweet time, you need not hurry.
Oh, you're looking incredible, you're the bomb!
And me, I'm kind of like your dad, and a little like your mom.

There are no Monsters here, hey wait, look over there.
I was just kidding. don't be scared.
And when you turn this game off, in the real world once again,
You won't have to play make-believe, or try to pretend.
'cus I'll be right there when you open your hand,
'cus I'm your little invisible musical friend.

So, show me to your pets, or show me to your pals.
You really will impress every nifty guy and gal.
Show them you are individual, show them you are BOLD!
Besides, I get residuals for every game that's sold.

I'm your little invisible musical friend for life.
I'll never leave you.

Doug TenNapel is a creative genius, and I do not use that term lightly. Without him, Earthworm Jim would not have been what it was.

It's just a shame he's chosen to leave the video game business. It's understandable though because his talent was difficult for the masses to appreciate. Neverhood and Skullmonkeys are true gems.

Well, they would certainly be easier for me to appreciate than his current focus on writing Jack Chick tracts disguised as wacky sci-fi stories.

I'd venture to say his work is better suited on an interactive level, rather than passive.

Father_Brain - Jack Chick tracts is a bit of an exaggeration I think. Chick comes right out and says that Hollywood homosexuals and the Pope are in leauge with the devil amongst other nonsense. What exactly are you referring to, the aforementioned sockbaby or something else? Maybe he is engaging in a cladenstine effort to convert me to some hateful belief but so far he has only converted me to entertained. Wait a minute... I just looked in his blog.

Like George Bush or hate him, don't let your dislike of cowboys distort your vision of what just happened. George Bush was already a hero, and now he is a superhero. I love this cowboy, who tore down the real life Saruman.

You win. He is wacky beyond repair. Sock baby was funny to me though.

and Earthworm Jim, Neverhood, and Skull Monkeys rocked!

Sockbaby was hilarious, and of a much higher production quality than I first thought it would be. The sound effects and timing was just great. :lol

No love for Klaymen Gun Hockey, huh? :(
I am unfamiliar, inform me.

And BuddyC, have you gotten the Neverhood to work on your computer? You stole it from me and never told me if it worked. I miss my Neverhood :( . Oh well, I still have the box.

I have, actually. And it's aged rather well.

bobby: I'd never heard of Klaymen Gun Hockey before, but a quick Google gave me the basics. Is it worth hunting down?
