When I heard the new Aimee Mann album (The forgotten arm) was released I hit up a store for my own copy before even 'testing it' with a download.
To be honest its ok. Its not Lost in Space, but its not earlier stuff like Whatever which I found way too close to the nonsense that was Til Tuesday. There's been a steady evolution of her music style, the longest era existing during the Lost In Space/Bachelor #2/Magnolia Soundtrack releases.
The new stuff is less universal and more context based and while her writing is good, I feel I lack the context to apply it to whatever it is its supposed to mean to me as a listener. The imagery is largely lost on me. Lost in Space was much better at using metaphors n such to keep the theme of the song universal.
Obviously ill be giving it more listens and my opinion may change, but so far I rate it under Lost In Space, Bachelor #2, and Magnolia. Far down the list but her music is awesome anyway.
Worth it half over just for the packaging which has really nice art and a small book inside. SuperEgo knows how to put together a pretty package.

Tonight I also picked up a real copy of Rilo Kiley's Execution of All Things and I think it ties More Adventurous as a favorite. Takeoffs and Landings for some reason during (TEST LISTENS) has never caught with me like albums above have. Execution is an overall winner in terms of variety on the album, but More Adventurous has some amazing vocal-focused pieces and the song More Adventurous is charming in its own right.
