New Assassin's Creed Unity: "Revolution gameplay" trailer

I don't see the resemblance with AC3. ACU is back in Europe, back in a proper city, hopefully with a character that's actually interesting (can't be much worse than Connor...). If anything, this is much closer to the Ezio trilogy than AC3 or AC4...

All good but they have to put in the equivalent of Black Flag's naval combat, I don't really think making a game played exlusively on foot like AC1 & 2 could be enough nowadays.

The climbing and parkour look way to automated.

No, this is exactly what they need to do. The series got way too bogged down with minigame and extra fluff starting with the Den Defense missions in Revelations and all the boring ass naval combat in 3 & 4. It needs to go back to the roots of stalking, assassinating and climbing buildings.

AC2 and ACB are still awesome games. As long as the mission design is ok (and they definitely can fuck this up big time), I have no problem with this setting.

If the final version of the game looks like that, first thing I'm doing is working on a free camera. AnvilNext is pretty easy in that regard.

I suspect there's some touching up to that screenshot though. Can't trust any pre-release shots of AC games these days....

These are screencaps from direct feed, looks exactly the same barring the image compression in these

So fucking hyped. If only because Ubisoft is basically the only one who makes any action games set in the 18th-19th century. Part of the reason I love Ubi. They have me naval combat that was so goddamn fun. I would play a whole game that was just the ship combat/trading/pirating of AC4. Like Freelancer except with 19th century ships.

What I would do for a video game franchise based on the Sharpe novels...

I'm not feeling this game at all. Sure it looks nice but I really have no interest in all the multiplayer stuff they showed in E3 (no one will ever play it like that).

I was hoping they would go to Japan or China or something or even an overhaul of the combat system. Bleh.

UNITE looks out of place.

The animations looks awesome though. And love how the environments look like they transition seamlessly to from outdoor to indoor.

Has there been any more word on the day/night cycle? Last I read at the Ubi forums it was removed. But hopefully misinterpreted as having static times during missions.

4) The removal of the automatic day-night system, in favor of locking the time of day in the game at various times. The idea is to keep players from feeling rushed and from having some of their in-game progress reset by the quick passing of sunrise and sunset. (I wonder, but didn't ask, if it's also because of changes to how the game world will be illuminated and animated.)

AC2, at least in my opinion is still the best. But the problem is that that game is the second in the serie. And Assassin's Creed has not evolved much in movemement, combat and stealth from the first game. If possible they have simplified these aspects, while getting better in locations, secondary missions and maybe storytelling.

This makes me think that they are not going to invent anything in this aspect. And i don't think that the spectacular locations and the interesting setting will be enough to make an interesting game.

Hence the need for a secondary gameplay scenario, like the nice naval combat in AC3 & 4, that can eat up enough gameplay time to keep the game interesting till the end.

But i can't came up with anything new they could put in.

here is some info from some magazines

At the beginning of the game the Assassin Order will only be a temporary thing for Arno. At first.

The players will be able to interact with each other in the co-op missions through microphones. However, the team made sure that the players who may not have a microphone will not be disadvantaged.

The missions' difficulty varies between one and five stars. Some of the quests are designed for one or two people, while other ones are for three or four players. Players can try a four-man challenge solo, but obviously it will be more difficult. Along with this, a "two-man mission" performed by three players will be easier. The level of difficulty gives the player a tool to decide the kind of challenge that he wants.

In the "Murder Mystery" missions the players may find themselves in front of a dead body, and then follow clues and interrogate different people and even accuse them, like a real detective. When a crime is solved, the player will gain the murder weapon and use it in the game.

In the "Paris Stories" missions the player will find a wide variety of mandates, as Arno continues to be an assassin. However, not all mandates will be assassinations. Each mission will tell a unique story, which is why they were named Paris stories. This time the player will have to recognize the target. It will also be possible to obtain information and use it to trace it. From that point on, after getting to the target, the player will decide how to approach and kill the target.

The city will be ruled by chaos and to really revive this vibrant and ever-bustling city, a variety of random events may occur between NPCs. For example, some people will try to rob a church. Each event is going to fit with the context of the French Revolution. These events will take place in the district which they are directly related to.

There are also going to be other huge rewards in Paris. There are hundreds of different stories hidden in the game, which offer an insight into the lives of the ordinary people in Paris. For example, if a player wanders into an abandoned house, he/she will find out that a family who lived there took the plague. If the player can find the members of the family, he/she will be rewarded.

Unity is not only huge in size, but in terms of depth as well. Players can explore the city and can explore multiple levels (churches, catacombs, sewer system, attractions, etc) and go inside of a lot of the buildings as well. These places will not be empty, they will be packed with lots of activities, with stories, traders and Social Clubs.

Unity will introduce three skill trees into the Assassin's Creed franchise. They are based on the three pillars of the franchise (stealth, combat or navigation) and are designed to let the player improve specific abilities (which can be both active and passive) tailored to his/her personal playstyle.

it looks and sounnds like it could be the best in the series, i hope they bring the goods.

People need to read official news and understand that yes, they overhauled combat, free-running and stealth gameplays, in order to make the game look like the purity of AC1 with the fun/open world elements implemented since AC2 in urban areas

It looks really nice graphically, and some of the design stuff they talked about sounded interesting, but playing 6 AC games in 6 years kinda burned me out, so I will be waiting a bit, see if they revised their "collectibles everywhere" design (I doubt it, but one can hope).

This sounds interesting, although an assassin solving murders? Lol.

So no more follow the red thing on the map?

The parkour animations look fucking fantastic. I've never seen someone repel down a building with such style and flair. Got three other guys that will run with me on this when it drops, so I can't wait.

I think it's interesting that they used different press quotes in the UK and US trailer.
UK on the left, US on the right.

Maybe their marketing has determined that US consumers respond better to one-word soundbites about graphics.

while the world looks great, so does traversal, combat still looks kinda off. Still think Batman Arkham city/origins has the slickest looking melee fights out of a western studio.

They say they totally revamped how it works though, so i hope it plays ok. Combat has been a joke in AC after they changed it in AC3.

That would be awful if true and a downgrade from the traditional day/night cycle. I really dislike when open world titles have static times of day. If it's for visual reasons ala infamous Second Son so they can bake a bunch of nice looking effects into the world, I'd rather an uglier game with dynamic times of day than the other way around. Hopefully this isn't true.

It's kind of annoying when you walk up to start a memory in the middle of the day and then the screen flashes and suddenly it's night though.

Give me that or a time lapse over a static day/night cycle any time. Static ToD kills a huge part of the atmosphere + immersion in an open world title.

Looking forward to this. Much as I'd love to, I've never been to Rome or Istanbul. I know Paris though, and I've been to the Palace of Versailles, so I’m interested to see how accurate the architecture is.

The animation looks lovely. Hope my PC is up to it. I'll have plenty of time to upgrade before that comes out though...

I played AC4 on my PC had zero problems (besides launch day which is typical) ran fine and was the most fun AC i've played since brotherhood.

So I'm looking forward to this. Sure its always gonna feel like a little more of the same...but either by now you like AC or you don't.

They make bigger steps forward then some yearly franchises. As usual haters gonna hate.

If that is a faithful representation of the actual number of npc's on-screen

Then I am seriously

seriously

impressed

Looks phenomenal, but I can't get over the main character sounding like a posh Englishman. That will ruin my enjoyment of Revolutionary France, unless it turns out he was raised in England or something.

If we can use French audio (I'm in Europe, so I'll be getting the PAL version) then that's what I'll do. If we can subtitle it in English, great. If not, my rusty French is going to need to improve between now and Christmas. Euro 2016 is in France, good time to start trying to get back into it.

I'm in agreement that his english accent is distracting, and overall design is boring, but I'm still pumped for my yearly AC.

Crap trailer, however.
