New Beyond: Two Souls Previews & Screens

Can't believe this is running on a PS3. If Sony is smart and this makes a ton of dough, Sony should snap up Quantic Dream to be a part of their WWS. It'll strengthen them even further.
David Cage said he was very open to being bought by Sony a while back, so if this ends up doing better than Heavy Rain it's a very real possibility.

If a person was found to have super powers in the world you better believe the US government would try to weaponize that person. Super soldier is the dream.

Yep! Which is why it makes perfect sense for it to be in the game.

DAY ONE

This game should be also a PS4 release date title... I will gladly double dip

I don't get the hype for this game at all, it looks cool but it just doesn't click for me

Its not for everyone, specially the COD crowd ;)

I am really impressed by QD tech team. There is a huge leap from HR to BTS in terms of graphics. Can't wait to see what they bring to the PS4. Judging from what they did with that goblin tech demo on PS4, it will be amazing.

QD games in general aren't for everyone, it has nothing to do with specific crowds.

I'm really not hyped at all, but I'm not seeing any media because I want to play it on blackout so I don't even know how it plays, this way it's hard to get hyped.

I really liked Heavy Rain, so that's pretty much the reason I want this game, but I'm not very excited or anything.

But then again I read the GTA V OT and I think the hype feels forced with all the overblown reactions and awful gifs, I'm not suffering while I wait for GTA V, even if I did preorder it, so maybe I just don't usually hype a lot of stuff.

Not exactly a huge stretch there. BF4, AC4 and Batman are also releasing in October and you know GTA will still be there and probably Madden too. If it gets in at all it'll probably be the lower half.

Also NBA 2K14,WWE14 and Pokemon...

Its all up to EU to get this game sales at retail

Any previews yet from people who rightfully despised Heavy Rain? I'm curious to know if they feel the quality of the writing is even remotely improved from that game. That'll be the ultimate line between buy and not buy for me - if GAFers and others who disliked Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy say that the story in this particular story dominated game is actually well written this time.

lol

Actually the end of the video (starting at 15 minute mark) is a pretty big spoiler as I don't think it has been mentioned in any previews to date and it touches upon Aiden's nature.

Yeah I stopped after the tutorial area stuff. It looked like it was getting heavy into the story, even though they say it jumps around in the preview, I'm used to piecing things together if the final is like the preview. How could they even suggest "unless she grows super fast" and "Her hair is super short, then it's very long. No idea what's going on there." I can comprehend that time is passing based on that type of stuff, or time has went backwards (most likely to build character and let you in on her past).

Atrociously written is atrociously written, it's out of my hands. In any event, there's plenty of people who don't make concessions for terrible writing due to some 'emotion' it makes them feel, so I'm looking to those people to see if they think Beyond is an improvement over the miserable writing of Heavy Rain. Certainly seems like the acting is better, at least. If you don't fit the criteria, skip the post and move on :)

It's important because I like adventure games; I don't like shit writing. So I'm looking for someone who had such an experience to elaborate on their time with Beyond.

Come on, it's a Cage game. The writing is guaranteed to be terrible. Expecting different is just asking to be disappointed.

Well I don't think anything is certain. People can improve. Is Cage beyond any ability to improve? Maybe he took some criticisms to heart?

I mean I'm not BETTING on it, but I can still look for previews/hands-on from people who had the same issues with Heavy Rain's awful writing as I did, and see if Beyond is improved. Not many games get made like Quantic Dream's titles, so I would still like to hear some people out with that perspective before I decide to avoid or not.

First off that's very presumptuous. Can't remember the last time I even played CoD

secondly this isn't a typical game that slots into groups or tastes like that. It's definitely not for everyone

I don't think he called you a CoD player, CoD players is just a big segment in gaming and it's true that Beyond is nowhere near that market. It will need to appeal to a good amount of people still however, though it's a niche genre, hence Ellen Page, and William Dafoe.

His little wink at the end made it seem that way cos I said I personally wasn't hyped for it but anyway yeah it's a pretty niche gameplay experience and that's likely why they keep promoting it like a movie and showing the actors names everywhere.

From your extensive review on Heavy Rain I think it came down to this:

-Controls
-Voice acting
-Animation
-Dialogue & Story

From the previews (even from some people who didn't like Heavy Rain) it sounds like the first three points are fixed or at least considerably improved. The last point is uncertain for now, since the game hasn't released yet.

But generally it looks like, while improved, it still is very much a David Cage game. So while there are probably way less plotholes (supernatural excuse), you can expect silly or over-the-top scenes and bad dialogue to be a part of Beyond as well. While I think these scenes are on purpose and I enjoy them immensely, they likely won't be for you.

So I advise you not to play Beyond (unless reviews are stellar) and wait for their PS4 game, where Cage is joined by a team of professional writers. The result will likely be more up your alley.

Looks amazing and will surely be an incredible follow up to the amazing Heavy Rain. I hope it sells well as cage and his team deserve it. They are top notch.

Screens are bullshots, yeah? As in, downsampled from a much higher resolution than the game is really running at. No way it will have that good AA. Still looks great though! Will probably be my last PS3 game.

EDIT: Yeah, that second batch of screens in the thread are 2160p.

well i caved with GTAV, but with this one I can just wait for it to come to ps4, and if it never does then it never does. Looks really great though so that would be a shame.

This game will probably end up the best looking game on the PS3 when all is said and done. Amazing looking. Sony and their wizards really figured out how to tap the PS3's potential.

We can finally put this off-screen gif to rest apparently:

Looks like the iOS companion app is coming out tonight. I wonder if there's any early content in there, given that it's hitting the App Store almost a month before the game proper ships.

I thought that was sweat. Anyway, I find it quite awesome the gesture she does with her mouth before talking. It seems like she was swallowing.

Mocap goes a long fucking way.
