Didn't you just get into this game like couple months ago? :O

Well I backed Vinhos and pull the trigger on the Gallerist after watching a lot of YouTubes and reading on BGG. But man there sure is a lot of people on BGG that hate on Eagle Gryphon Games, almost as bad as CMON. I thought video gamers were bunch of whiney entitle bunch but us board gamers I think are even worst.

Yes. Yes I did.

It's a sick addiction, haha.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the recommendations. There are so many games out there it's nice to hear specific ones to check out.

BGG.Con tickets announced to go on sale on 3/3/3pm. Management expect it to sell out in days, instead of the crazy two weeks last year...

Looks like my regular group is going to BGG.Con Spring instead of the 'main' one this year. not sure what I'm doing yet.

So, after introducing to my friends Catan, and already buying Terra Mystica, Game of Thrones and Race for the Galaxy, what my collection is missing (when it comes to mechanics)?

I thought about some games: Puerto Rico, Agricola, Pandemic, Eldritch Horror, Blood Rage, Dead of Winter and Robinson Crusoé. Any of them would add a new interesting mechanic to what I already have, or, at least in that regard, there would be no new thing?

Jumping from Catan to anything else you listed is going to be a harsh wakeup call for anyone that is not 110% invested into the hobby. Whatever you decide to buy I would do it one game at a time just to be safe!

race for the galaxy is just the sped up better version of puerto rico (definition of better varies from person to person :p)

I dislike both agricola and Caverna but I can't really think of any reason why you would want agricola over Caverna unless you were already a huge fan of Agricola. Coverna is just a much more polished version of the game.

I am not sure how the game of thrones game plays but if you don't have a co op game both eldritch and dead of winter are fine choices (dead of winter is likely a better introduction)

robinson crusoe is also co op but it feels quite a bit different. a pain in the ass to learn but once you learn it it plays well but will beat you down so hard.

I don't know blood rage.

as for pandemic the other co op one. I am hearing great things about pandemic legacy and thus will avoid saying whether regular old pandemic is still worth it until I play legacy.

i've had pretty good luck with co op games. I think being able to walk people through a few of their turns really helps.

forbidden desert/island have gone over great with people who don't normally play games.

Actually, the first game that my group played was Zombicide. The first day was an easy mission which took 4 hours to complete (a lot of manual reading, going back a few turns because os some misused rules... etc). The following night was a 6 hours game with everybody dead and pretty pissed in Zombicide.

So I guess any kind of trauma my group had to go through to play any game, I guess we already have gone with Zombicide. Haha.

The analysis on Catan was: "Very, VERY fun, but too quick". We played for 4 hours... hahaha!

Agricola is the better, replayable, expandable, streamlined version of Caverna with better theme.

Backed TMNT hours ago. Looks like they finished strong. I ended up going in for a The Works pledge because I need those Eastman turtles. I waffled back and forth on whether I should back it for a while and then decided that I had to. Like most every dude my age, when I was young I was absolutely mental for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I needed this.

I was seriously soclose to doing it, but just the playtime and level of complexity meant it was almost never going to hit the table. Looks like fun though, and really pretty. Do wish that more offered painted minis like Tokkaido KS did, but logistics behind it are probably not great.

Knowing that I probably wouldn't like it, I gave Exploding Kittens a go the other night. I hated it. We didn't even finish the game.

I like Exploding Kittens as a filler...just a simple game of Russian Roulette. If you want to up the game a bit, insist on fast play, like, under a second.

I must admit that I'm super curious to find out which side of this war is really right.

I've always figured Caverna is way better, but if you wanted to play a game like that, you might as well go full Agricola.

I'm really not the best judge here as I find both games tedious and super boring lol, just going off my friend's thoughts who actually enjoys them.

I only played them because I have a single friend in my game group that likes them. He picked up kingdom death monster though so we are just playing that when he hosts games now, and he can get his fix of those games with his family because no one else in our group enjoys them at all.

I think it depends what you want your game to look like. Caverna is a lot more laid back. You cant kind of focus on whatever and dont need to worry too much about feeding, where as Agricola is a tight mean game, where you are merely trying to survive.
I like Agricola better because it is so tight, and also the cards really add a ton of replayability.

The most fun I had playing Exploding Kittens was when I realised that there's very little reason to play cards until the deck starts running out a few rounds before my friends came to the same conclusion. For that brief moment I was a god.

Kingdom Death is removed from the store, I am curious if stock is running low and if he is going to reprint more.

Also Conan is again delayed to June.

I'm planning on going back to BGG.Con this year since I heard they really improved on the table-space issues. Make that my board-game trip of the year. Really hard to top that awesome open-gaming environment they've traditionally had.

I played another 7-played game of Mysterium and enjoyed it a lot more with easy difficulty and someone else playing the ghost. Everyone figured out their cards by hour 6.

Sadly, in the very final round, it was a 3-3 tie between two groups of suspects. Everyone had gotten their psychic level to 3 cards, so we had the same information. The tiebreaker went to the highest-level psychic (who thus had the best guessing record)...and they decided to second-guess themselves by picking the other group.

Their original guess was right, so everyone lost. :(

I do think the game needs maybe double the cards. With 6 players on easy mode, we went through the entire deck and then some.

Verdict on Burgle Bros now it's been out a while? Especially the 3D tower's value?
I have seen nothing but positive impressions and I plan to buy it.
The original 3D tower is no longer available though. Tim's webstore links to some people on Etsy who are making new towers, a minimal version and a deluxe version. I prefer the minimal one and think the deluxe one looks too busy with card holders on the side, but the guys will customize things to your liking. I would prefer the original, I like the sleek grey look of that compared to the new version that is made out of that thin cheap wood that lots of inserts or dice towers are made of that fit together.
Haven't played it though, so I can't give you first-hand opinions. I've followed it since I missed backing the KS and it looks like a solid buy.

Love it solo, love it grouped. Not an easy game.

That's what I like to hear, lol. I got a trade offer involving the original tower, not the new fancy over the top etsy ones. Tough co-ops that can be done in around an hour once we know the rules are perfect for my work group. Ta for the feedback, guys.

Burgle bros is excellent. I don't fancy the tower though. Seems impractical. Standing up to see top level and peeking around just to see the layout seems a chore. Plus lighting in certain situations doesn't seem ideal.

Looks nice though.

Just bought 3 theme packs for the Pokemon tcg. Me my wife and daughter will be playing. I got the furious fists because of some Reddit recommendations. Any good resources for starting or a better thread for info?

No clue about a better thread, but I'm in much the same boat :) My kids got into pokemon cards through osmosis from their friends & randomly bought a couple of packs (knowing they couldn't play). My daughter spent some of her own birthday money on a tin (again, not enough to play).

Ended up finding someone on our local board game buy/selll/trade FB group with some to spare & got six themed decks and a bunch of cards + extras for $20. She's enjoying the game far more than she expected, even though I'm kinda winning all the time.

There's a dirt cheap 'trainer' set available that's worth getting just because it walks you through a fixed game, teaching how to play, and provides a playmat with the rules on it. That was really helpful too.

Anyone have experience with Golem Arcana?

I know it was cancelled but everything is cheap and miniatures look not so bad.
We played it at PAX couple years ago. The miniatures are beautiful, tech is cool but the scanner failed a lot while we were playing. I think the concept seems fine but when you play miniatures war game you just want to roll bunch of dices and calculate your odds and the app take away that fun part of playing miniatures game.

Having Stat look up is nice but there was so much automation and in the end I have to agree with my kid, if you want it this way why not just play a video games.

I know you can play using the provided dice, did you try it that way?

I guess i'm spending 170 dollars to get the last Sentinels Expansion

Oversized card sets and foil variants and official full collector's box for everything were too much to pass up (mainly the case)

So ever since someone brought up Raptor in this thread, I've been dying to buy it but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know the status of it?

No, we were at demo room at PAX and they set up several game for us to play. I didn't know the game come with dice. I was thinking about getting it at clearance price but not too sure how long the app will be support with the company going under.

Finally finished Pandemic Legacy. That was so good. I'd recommend it to anyone that can get a group of 2-4 to commit to playing it through.

(Whole game spoilers)
We managed to win Late December by the skin of our damn teeth with four cards left in the player deck. It was an awesome finish. We'd had some... incidents in the previous months that resulted in a lot of 4/5 cities so our final score was 627/1000. The slow release of tension as you got more and more faded cities vaccinated and thus made more cards in the deck harmless was a great set of falling action.

My favorite part was definitely the "military is evil" twist. The game pretty specifically encourages you to go in deep on the military by having the "place 6 military bases" objective, making military bases faded proof, and making the "military escort" upgrade particularly amazing. So that makes it a real blow to get betrayed and lose a lot of that utility. It clearly expected players to think "hey, if we put down more starting military bases that objective is easy! We've got your number board game!" The "gotcha!" on that was great. RIP Soldier with escort and Rivals who was our best character.

Tim Fowers' (Paperback) love letter to Matt Leacock (Pandemic) style gaming. Ocean's 11 meets Forbidden Desert. 1-4 players work through a building of random tiles trying to avoid being detected long enough to steal the goods and get to the roof. Each character has a unique ability that lends itself to tough puzzle situations.

Is it a straight improvement over Forbidden Desert?
