The internet tells me this takes place after Kid Buu but before the 28th tournament. Was that the Goku vs. Uub scene?

Yeah, that's the last real "canon" moment of the timeline, but there's still ~5/10 years between Buu's death and Uub's appearance.

Honestly, they should just ignore that finale completely. Not that it's poor, just because prequels always suffer from pre-ordained endings.

I really hope they don't mess up the power levels or nerf some characters in this new movie.

The main characters are so strong by the end they are like Gods (Ultimate Gohan, SSJ3 Goku, SSJ2 Vegeta, hell add fusion and they are unbeatable)

I just hope they remember where they all stand.

It seems that Pilaf and his crew may be in the new movie:

Much like with a few instances of Dragon Ball TV series filler and the introduction to Dragon Ball GT, it seems that the original villain from the series — none other than Pilaf himself — will be making at least a cameo in the upcoming Dragon Ball Z movie hitting Japanese theaters next March.

The 30th “Prize Fair” took place in Tokyo today, and Bandai was on hand to showcase some of the new Dragon Ball figures coming this winter. In addition to the previously-announced third line of Zōkei Tenka’ichi Budōkai figures were some items for their “World Collectable Figure” line — small set of eight figures around 7 cm tall — being produced in conjunction with next year’s movie. Along with Goku and Vegeta, Pilaf, Mai, and Shuu have been revealed.

Three additional characters are covered up with black ovals and are listed as “Secret”. There’s also a short paragraph, seen directly under the movie’s poster, that discusses the actual release of the figure line:

Furthermore, there’s the “Dragon Ball Z” movie, the first in 17 years that will premiere on 30 March 2013! A “World Collectable Figure” series will coincide with the release of the movie, covering movie characters that make an appearance!! Check them out here as well!

It would certainly be a welcome surprise to see the not-so-dangerous trio show up in the upcoming movie in at least some minor capacity, but it makes you wonder who the three blocked out characters are. Either way, here’s hoping for some comedy gold!

http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2012/11/10/new-2013-dragon-ball-z-movie-title-battle-of-gods/

Manga-news Japon has posted a new image (which appears to semi-originate on a 2ch thread) promoting the new theatrical Dragon Ball Z movie set to hit Japanese theaters on 2013 March 30, and this time we have a title: ”Battle of Gods”, with a possible subtitle of Kami to Kami (“God and God”).

GfbRB.jpg

Super Saiyan Goku is blocking an elbow from a rabbit-esque character (with what we think looks like some futuristic Egyptian garb), with yet another new character centered behind them showered in light. A good mix of returning characters line the bottom of the image, including Gohan (transformed into a Super Saiyan, interestingly enough for this point in the story), Vegeta, Trunks, Bulma, Piccolo, Goten, and Majin Buu. A female character is also shown, which could possibly be Videl with one of her short haircuts, though it could also be one of the various Dragon Ball Heroes female avatar characters making a cameo… or any other variety of random character insertions. Tenshinhan appears to be hanging out in the far background, and there are even a couple other tiny additions that we will not even attempt to make calls on!

It is worth noting that the image appears to be a screen shot itself taken off a computer screen (specifically a Mac OS computer) — we do not know the origin of the image, and cannot yet 100% vouch for its legitimacy.

Man this totally deserves a theatrical release when it comes stateside.

Well, by the time this movie could be released abroad new episodes of Kai should be running on Nicktoons, and stuff. Hopefully the Canadian broadcast will have been sorted out by then ...

Hopefully vegeta is not as useless as he usually is in these movies. He'll come in, get a few good shots, then just get fucking pounded for the rest of the movie.

Movie lore never really ever matches up with the show.

Technically, the series official canon ended after the Buu fight and Gohan never had a reason to ever powerup ever again as the universe was safe.

So for all intents, yeah, his "Mystic" powerup may as well have been temporary.

they troll vegeta so hard in the movies. you'd think they'd let him get a W in one of the movies. i mean damn.

really though all the characters get their asswhooped until the last 5 mins lol.

i always wondered how good a dbz movie could be if they actually took it seriously. i mean the pokemon movies feel pretty damn grand and dramatic. the dbz movies feel like a condensed episode.

There's some speculation that the movie may take place during Gohan and Videl's wedding based off of Satan being in there, and Bulma having a glass of wine. However, where's Chi-Chi if that's the case? Hmmm.

it doesnt look like a wedding. i figure videl would be wearing a white dress. but it definitely looks like a celebration.

Why is Vegeta in his saiyan armor? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Also, the mystic and ssj3 powerups were fucking stupid, hope they find a way to retcon that stuff out.

Man I really hope that poster is legit. I'll have your head for this if it isn't, Takao!

Oh. True, but now I kinda wish he had his Buu Saga outfit on.

Uhh wow. That purple rabbit looks horrible. Worst enemy design in all of DBZ.

Damn you, it looks great!

Gohan goes mystic at the end of the last DragonBall Z movie (13), where they fight the giant disappearing monster dude.

So yes, mystic form is indeed permanent and should by all means be present in this movie. Don't worry, they're not showing Goku in SSJ 3 form either. Though for Gohan, the idea was that Mystic mode is supposed to be his default and only form, so he would not need to go Super Saiyan even again.

That's a cat bro. It's wearing Egyptian clothing, has claws, and cats are king in ancient Egypt.

Also, Kei17 of the Kanzenshuu forums drew what he thinks the floating thing is in the background:

Kind of reminds me of one of Boo's people, but there's only 1 Boo until he makes more of them ...

Err, using a movie as some form of canonical proof is a bit misguided. The movies are often retreads, and ignore the series plot at times. Heck, some of them actually can't even exist due to the timeline of events.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Rabbit/Cat, whatever it is, it looks ridiculously bad.

But regardless, i am still hyped as fuckkk for this film. If it gets theatrical release in North America I will shed tears of joy.
