new EGM rumors

Anyway, I'm not trying to find a scenario or anything, I just know almost as facts that most of the games you listed as rumours should (if everything goes as planned) make it for launch.

The underlined part is why I don't put much merit in any serious discussion about what will and will not be at any launch. As we know, launch games are constantly getting pushed back or moved around and whatnot. Everything usually doesn't go as planned, so that's why I'm not exactly hedging my bets on any platform. You never know what will be announced between now and launch day. :)

Mrbob: If all of it makes it, no doubt it'll be a step up. Definitely one of the better launches.

Xbox 360 is the lead platform for Call of Duty 2.

Hell that might even make the Xbox 360 launch too.

Wow, if those 'rumored' games make the launch (90 percent will) Xbox 360 launch is going to be stacked. Add on Call of Duty 2 this launch could get amazing.

I almost hope Rare don't get PD0 out in time for launch. Especially with the pretty much definite online multiplayer. I'm not sure I could resist all that, but buying the Xenon, PD0 and Live, along with other games on other systems? Painful.

Even if I did resist it for a while, I'd probably end up joining the online games to find all the bugs and exploits have been found just like in Halo 2 and that I'd missed the early good stuff when people didn't cheat contantly.

Well, planned launch titles usually do not get delayed. The publisher would rather put a half finished game on the shelves than release the game a few months later when no one will care anymore. Especially in the case of Xbox 2 launch where most of these titles (at least the 1st/2nd party ones) have been in development for much longer than the usual 10-12 months it takes to make your average launch title.
Anyway, it's late and I have to get up early tomorrow, so end of pointless but fun discussion for me. :)

believe me, developers know how important it is to get their title out at launch. they know that more people will give their game a chance and will buy it. they also know it's a great way to gather a dedicated following for their franchise. they would rather cut their arms off than to miss launch (if indeed a launch release is their goal).

it is pretty unusual to hear of a game that is going to come out at launch miss it's date. i can't even think of one.

Games get pushed back a lot at launches. You're right about how important it is, but that doesn't change that sometimes games are so incomplete that a developer has to take the loss and push it back. The PSP Japan launch window had several games pushed back, for example.

A better launch than XBox? GBA by my estimations.
I'm not talking simply "better", but to the point where you'd say "our opinions differ so vastly that it's almost pointless to continue!". The GBA inspired those words, eh?

I wonder how much of an impact, if any, would the fact that MS went into the console business, knowing full well that while the Xbox was made to get their "brand" out into the public, that the Xenon is what everything up till this point has been aimed at.

While i'm sure all console makers are always looking to the future to some degree I can't think of another manufacturer that has put so much emphasis on its "next console", especially at the very begining of their previous consoles life cycle.

But going by most consoles launch lineups, it seems as though, while it was an important event, not a critical one. Like how when the PS2 was launched, an exceptional launch lineup was not a necessity. The PS2 would have sold even if it only had one game, with just the promise of more to follow.

I'm just wondering how much effort has been put into the Xenon launch if, like i have been led to believe, everything for the past 4 years, has been in preperation of this Christmas. It makes me hope that maybe there is a decent chance that alot of these games i've been hearing about, in regards to a launch lineup, could possibly be ready for launch. Not to mention the games we havn't heard about yet.

It's hyperbole. For me, it's like comparing varying degrees of shit to each other. Sure, one may have less shit than another, but at the end they're mostly all shit. It's rare when a system launch isn't shit. GBA had what I would consider a good launch. It might be the only one I consider that honor with at this point. Maybe Xbox 2 will jump on that list, maybe PS3, maybe Revolution. Maybe PSP (US Launch), as I mentioned in this thread. But I do not consider Xbox launch to be close to the top of the heap of shit, anyway.

I almost got fooled by EGM's April Fools joke.

remade wind waker haha indeed!

Oh and Wario64 is in it. Show off.

... I *think* that's it. :)

Couple days late, I realize, but I searched and couldn't find anything... And I didn't want to make a new thread if one already was. Anyone else see that the cover story for next month's EGM is Phantasy Star Universe? I just about wet myself. Can't wait to finally find out what the hell it's all about.

I just read about this on PSO World, surprised it hasn't got more attention. This is what they said the article says about next month's PSU cover story:

"We'd like to keep your nail-biting conditon under control, but the anticipation of Sega's PSU might leave your cuticles screamning for help. Yes, we know we're going to be hitting you with another action-RPG, but it is not our fault that this is one of the best looking games we have ever seen. Phantasy star Online gave us our first real-time online console game and surprisingly hit a home run on its first swing -- you can't chalk that up to beginner's luck. We don't want to give too much away about online play and profile configuration, but we're going to leave you with one word: breasts."

So that implies PSU is another online console action-RPG - in other words a true sequel to PSO, which is also what the trailer and flash intro had implied. Although them not wanting to give away much about online play implies a big change. MMORPG seems the most likely change.

The breasts and profile configuration comment must refer to character-creation. PSO's character-creation was very good for it's time, with the whole weight/height thing. So I imagine they are going to go to town with PSU and let you change everything including the female characters' assets!

Big question is what platform it's on, especially with the 'one of the best looking games we have ever seen' comment. They haven't really done much to support the GC/Xbox players recently, especially with Episode IV being PC-only, so can't see it going to either of them. I'd say it's going to be PS2, which Sammy must have pushed for as it has the potential to be a big cashcow, or Xbox2 if Microsoft have thrown a big moneyhat Sega's way. Getting PSU for Xbox2 would be a *very* smart move on Microsoft's part, although I can't see an Xbox2 game being shown in detail before the hardware is unveiled, unless Microsoft are going to unveil the console before E3.

Next EGM is out on April 5th I think. It better be good after Sega keeping us in the dark for so long!
