It wasn't a playable demo but a CD-ROM with videos from "Game Players Magazine", I think that was the name of that mag. That magazine spoiled the Aerith death as well as one of the video files. It also showed Neo Bahamut summon during the fight with Palmer in Rocket Town.

Nope there was definitely a second playable demo:

The Tifa demo released in mid-1997 was the game's second playable demo that originally appeared in PlayStation Underground 2 on a dedicated Squaresoft demo disc. The disc also contained a playable demo of Bushido Blade, as well as video previews of Bushido Blade, Saga Frontier, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Square later re-used this demo disc as their own promotional item.

Both PlayStation demos include the opening bombing mission right up until the explosion. While the Aeris demo was made during an earlier stage of the game's development, having numerous differences, the Tifa version represents the final version of the product, with only minor differences. Additionally, both demos include elements not accessible at this point in the final game, such as already-leveled-up Materia, a summon, and a third party member. The purpose of this is probably to show as many features of the final game as possible while keeping the demo reasonably short.

That's straight up bullshit about the Aerith death being spoiled though. What a way to ruin a game. Sadly it was spoiled for me thanks to some stupid rumor going around that she was supposed to be ressurect-able but it was removed from the final game. There was a petition going around asking Square to put that back in for the US release of the game.

But Noctis' health looks to be avoiding the red. He looks perfectly fine as well.

What does the Ability meter indicate?

might it be that the picture is from the Luminous engine talk section of famitsu, and that the focus on Prompto is because they are in a Dev-session?

I don't count the debug room a demo but ok.

So... The characters will set some sort of magic shield around their camp? One of the new scans shows runes/magic symbols around them.

Interesting that the bar below Noctis health has various versions: one made of segments (the one we already saw, i guess it's MP), one with a single line and a number (since it's shown when Noct's health is 0, maybe it's like a time limit in which you can save him?) and another one in the screen that shows Gladio hiding from the behemoth, it's again a single line but with no number.

Oh I was talking about the other scene.

Yea that scene is interesting.

But yea, like SPAW said, that scene was from Luminous tech talk so it might not represent actual gameplay accurately.

different swords, different abilities, and different bars?

Cater in the Type-0 scans, finally.

Anyway, different meters is probably different abilities (or unfinished UI =P)

The Jump ability looks pretty good too (I wonder what that white bar is).

Also they went from nicknames to full names for Party's UI

Oh man that would be a bit too complex lol
I think one is MP, one is revive-timeframe and the other stealth realated?

Enemy health?

Hope we can turn off quest markers.

Me too, but at least it doesn't indicate the exact location of the quest, but only the general area.

Enemy health?
It's what I thought, but idk. Maybe something related to the ability?

Also, is the black or the white that is the enemy's health? If it is the white then Jump doesn't deal much damage at all.

Also, that Luminous scan, that's a lot of grass right there =P

The engine seems more powerful than what FFXV leads me to believe, which already looks amazing in every aspect, I hope they continue to use it.

HP bars deplete from right to left.

If weapon ability can be actively used with no resource cost or cool down, then yeah, they shouldn't be too strong damage wise, otherwise, normal combo would be pointless. I can see Jump ability being a good Pre-emptive ice breaker skill if the landing animation could be cancelled.

Everything looks great. I love how the Prince sits while he's eating his eggs and coffee.haha

Damn, one of those Type-0 scans have what seems like a big spoiler.

The characters and creatures look great, but honestly I think the environment looks very much sub-par.
It's a bit empty, colorless, and just feels a bit boring overall.
I also think the graphics don't look that good on these screens from a technical standpoint. The trees look really hideous actually.

I still think the game will look pretty cool, but honestly these screens look a bit shitty.

This is the result of people crying about linearity. That and SE values character graphics over all else as evidenced by anything they've done within the last decade.

People are going to complain about anything they do. Making it more linear to have better presentation = people crying about linearity. Making it a huge open world = people crying about how not everything looks phenomenal. Dialing it back and doing something more reasonable for a better general presentation = people crying about it not being "next gen" enough.

I'm honestly not sure if there's a happy medium.

What is the result ?

You actually acknowledge the saying that this game looks bland and sub-par ? Compared to what exactly ?

Not sure what people are expecting in terms of open grasslands. It looked pretty fantastic before the grass LOD downgrade. These types of environments always give off an empty look, as that's how highlands actually look in the real world. We also have dinosaur sized beasts roaming the land and not all enemy and wildlife placements have been implemented.

Yep, open worlds are generally are pretty awful like this. It's what happens when area becomes a selling point.

If the world of map almost any previous FF were made in today's graphics they'd look pretty similar to this.

I don't know what people are expecting here.

I've said that a while back in another thread. I don't get people's gripes about these places looking "too empty", considering a whole lot of Earth(that's not densly packed cities) is also "really empty" and spacious. If anything, you can say this is realistic, which people tend to WANT video games to become. Hell, had these areas been filled to the brim with wandering monsters, it would looks like a fuckin' music festival and then people would be bitching about how it looks TOO MUCH like a Mussou game.

I honestly wish people, who say the "looks so barren" comment would actually provide an example of a non-empty grassland, or at least comment as to what they want to see. Looking at this gif, (besides more enemies, which Tabata has already commented on) I can't see what could possibly be "missing" from this environment.

This is a great post and I completely agree. Though it will be a good change for gameplay, I'll actually be a bit sad when more enemy density is implemented just because the world will look less authentic.

Not enough treasure chests in the lower pic. So much emptiness! God messed up.

The other side of this is, these are screen caps from the demo which isn't even running on the final version of the engine. It was also likely optimized as quickly as they could to reach the March launch date. If the final version looks the same or worse, then the downgrade claims will start to hold some water. If SE does it right though, the final version should look better.
