Credit goes to Barry Woodward at the DVD Talk Forum for this. I've never heard of the site so I don't know how credible it is, although I hope it is true mainly because of the possibility of Evil Dead 4.

A scooper has passed along some HUGE news.

If what this person has to say is true, then this would be the genre news of the year. This scooper says that he/she just recently wrapped on a project with Robert Englund and heard some big news while on the set. Here’s the scoop, so do with it what you will:

Next up Englund's going to be doing double-duty on a new horror pic and a new mini-series reincarnation of "V", the old series he use to appear in. He seems genuinely excited about it, and I believe they're all rooting that it gets the greenlight to be a later series.

Then....it's Freddy vs.Jason 2. They have the script, and yep, it does include the Ash character from Evil Dead. The same guy, Bruce Campbell, is doing the part. It's been a money situation apparently because one company owns one character whilst another owns the Freddy and Jason characters. everyone wants their piece of the pie apparently, including the actors of course. They've all got their way though apparently and it'll be shot back to back with a new "Evil Dead" movie with Campbell, all part of the deal apparently, there's talk that this might be released first to reinvigorate fans of that series and have the films link in some respect. exciting stuff.

God. I'm hardly a fanboy, but even I'd wet myself if somehow, somewhere, Sam Raimi gets to direct FvJ2.

Well, Evil Dead 4 to be financed by New Line has been apart of negotiations with Tapert, Campbell and Raimi since day one. Except from everything I heard, it was supposed to be released after Freddy vs Jason vs Ash, as so Evil Dead can garner more mainstream exposure, and use that success to catapult another Evil Dead flick.

Robert Englund has also said he'd like to end his career as the legendary Freddy Krueger by being dispatched by Ash. It'll probably happen. He's getting pretty old and fells after another versus movie, he might do an Elm Street prequel, but that's it for him.

On the Evil Dead front, it's very murky. There have been rumors of casting Ash's son for the sequel and I could definitely see that. And to answer White Man's question, it'd pick up after the theatrical ending and not the director's cut ending. Although, the director's cut ending would likely be utilized in the same vein as the comic is doing now (alternate deadite-ruled parallel universe thingy).

Spider-Man 3 has a tentative release date for 2007. That's three years off. The timeline is that Tapert and Raimi will produce, but definitely not direct, the FvJvA film. It might hit theaters in 2006. Following that flick, Raimi will have his brothers (and himself) work out a script treatment and work off of that immediately following his last Spidey flick.

So we'll probably see Evil Dead 4 in 2008.

Any links to stories where Englund said that?

I think Englund said it about a year or so ago when all the rumors came up on AICN, and at some convention not too long ago because we talked about at MillarWorld. The hell if I'm going to look for it, though.

The only thing that bothers me here is: why Ash? I mean, I've been hyped on this, but I don't understand why Ash.
