I thought it was very effective at balancing the drama and the comedy. Loved Martindale as Nick's mom. Schmidt's eulogy to the not-so-dead Winston actually gave me a lump in my throat (but perhaps mostly because I have a friend just like that in my life I'd give the same words to).
How I feel about it. It had some very funny stuff in it, but was balanced out by the drama. I just felt so bad for Nick the entire time. It was not the funniest episode of the season, but much like the episode in season one about Nick's health, the more serious aspects of it elevated it.

The Schmidt and Winston practicing scene really did it for me :lol
Just another great episode, New Girl keeps going strong.
Oh and I constantly had the feeling Margo Martingdale would kill Jess, it's a been a while since I've seen her in a show that doesn't involve murder I guess :lol
These last two weeks I have seen a surge of female friends and coworkers gushing over Nick. They were never like that before about him, but now it is all they talk about in regards to the show. I guess they want to see all of time and space while kissing.
The new season started airing in the UK last night. It's still consistently funny and Scmitt and Nick are the close to being the new Chandler and Joey.

Chosen because it gets stuck in your head very easily. And probably because it is easy to sing along with the refrain. And it does start by talking about Chicago. So it fits that way too.
Taylor Swift is guest-starring in the May 14 episode of the Fox comedy, EW has learned. The country pop star will play a character named Elaine, who is an “important guest” at the wedding of Cece (Hannah Simone) and Shivrang (Satya Bhabha).
The singer-songwriter and New Girl fan has been name-checked multiple times on the show this season: In one episode, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) sent Cece a text in which he said he was going through a “Taylor Swift-like range of emotions,” while in another, Nick (Jake Johnson) tried to cheer up a heartbroken Jess (Zooey Deschanel) with unfortunate dance moves while she moaned, “I just wanted to listen to Taylor Swift alone,” and “22″ played in the background.
Swift, who has hosted Saturday Night Live and guest-starred in an episode of CSI, will be on set next week to shoot her part.
By "important guest", I think she may be an ex wife or girlfriend of Shivrang's.
I still cant wait for the inevitable "I OBJECT!" scene with Schmidt at the wedding.
Also, even if I don't really like Swift (and it seems others dont either), the show has been VERY good at handling the guest stars. Even ones I dont usually like.
For some reason I thought nick's mom giving the cheetos to Jes was hilarious. And then when she tells Nick that she's happy there's someone to take care of him and Jes is over there struggling to open the bag, :lol
pretty indifferent towards Swift's music, I mean it's kinda cool that a young girl is basically writing all that music on her own (from what I've seen she has a ton of control over it) and finding success with that but I've never felt either way about a song of hers outside of Love Story which was fun to shout-sing as a joke. anyway, I get they need to do some stunt casting for a finale but: swift has always seemed kinda humorless to me. can not see her impressing on a comedy. who knows.
oh yeah and that was super recent too. well that's even more discouraging then. you can't be funny if you're not willing to make fun of yourself and she seems far to hypersensitive to do that.
It's funny, I think that bit is pretty played out, pop culturally, but the fact that he was doing it to a coffin made it one of the funniest things I'd seen in age.
I like the ALL DAY thing Schmidt does, but my favorite was two weeks ago when Nick got the black eye and Schmidt thought people had beaten him up. WE DOIN' THIS THING OR WHAT?!...Guys, are we not doing this thing?

Um, nope. Most of the media twisted her words and took them out of context, the only thing she said when the interviewer asked her about Amy and Tina was that she was in the bathroom when the joke was made but she said she can take a joke. In another part of the article she was responding to the critics aftermath and that got twisted as her response to Tina and Amy. Some sensible articles catched on to that and backed her up, along with others like her costar Reeve Carney.
As a fan, trust me, she pokes fun at herself all the time. In interviews, in concert, on twitter, etc., and has been for years. Not sure what you mean by that just because of one incident that happens to be untrue and taken out of context =\ Heck her role is said to be

if she turns out funny then cool and if you can find me something where she's at all funny I'll be more optimistic but your passionate defense led me to youtube "taylor swift funny" and of course there are 40 million "funny moment" compilations by ardent fans and they're all of her making really lame mom jokes or screaming loudly and freaking out about a bug on her dress like a 15 year old girl. which like I guess if you're already a stan would be amusing but is not at all funny
