Is anyone still holding onto a thread of hope that Las Venturas and San Fierro are on the other side of those mountains? I know its doubtful, but boy would that be an amazing reveal to pull off before launch.

Doubt it.

Rockstar´s Dan Houser on this possibility.

Doing other cities just didn't seem appealing. Doing small towns is very appealing. There's a bunch of small towns and villages and whatnot in there to discover and play around in. Doing other cities, though, felt like it was going to create problems we didn't need. It wasn't going to add to the experience. Of course you could do a game with a bunch of cities now that could be pretty interesting, but we didn't think that was going to be this game. This map is going to be spectacular to people when they start exploring and playing around with it.

To me is flying as low as possible down on that beach, but to each there own lol.

The best screenshot IMO.
I have a feeling I'm going to spend a lot of time flying and taking in the scenery. Did that in Just Cause 2, which while looking gorgeous, didn't feel as alive as GTA V seems to look.

I recently played SA and felt the same way. While SA is an amazing game last generation, after playing IV and other current gen open world games so much SA just felt gimped. The shooting and driving mechanics felt especially dated. I also had forgotten how short the console draw distance was in past GTAs.

IV definitely spoiled me in that every time I get the itch to replay one of the PS2 GTAs, I'm all happy and excited until I get into a car and remember that I have to use X and O instead of the shoulder triggers. Fucking caveman driving controls.

I tried playing SA on XBL... the driving controls were more like IV, but that version of the game just felt off to me somehow. The graphics engine certainly wasn't being done any favors by being upscaled on a Bravia. The PS2 Classics via PSN look "right" to me.

I feel the same.

Yeah me too, I like the progression style and being more focused on one area so you are 'forced' to explore it properly. Then again, it's just a minor thing and something I'd prefer but everything opened up doesn't make much difference to me. Everything unlocked is supposed to be that later-game cherry.

So is the entire map open from the start? Because thats really disheartening to me if true.
Are you serious? I hate that shit in games. 'Oh this bridge is down! No one can get from one side of the city to the other!' So dumb.

If you really feel like you need to be more restrained just do the story missions, they'll generally guide you through the city in a more metered fashion.

Because I enjoyed the feel of progression as I unlocked new cities. It helped keep things interesting the further you got in the story. I don't like having my cake all at once.

So terrorists suddenly not being around feels like progression?
Or the hurricane is gone?

It almost felt a part of GTA for at least some sort of the map to be restricted for while.

Although I kind of feel that having the full map available to you from the start is more of a good thing than a bad.

It has nothing to do with the fucking contrivances in the story to justify it. It has everything to do with endorphins being released when you finally get to explore an area that you could only view from afar previously. You seriously don't get that?

The first time you're taken to the countryside in San Andreas.
So good...

for the first time in RDR. Rockstar always does a great job of handling those scenes.

Exactly. I personally won't miss the locked off islands that much if it turns out you can explore everything from the start... but damn... that feel when you got to the 2nd island in GTA3.

I still remember that destroyed bridge from GTA 3, I wanted to go there so badly. I spent an HOUR trying to get over it in its destroyed state and I managed to do it. Some freak jump and I was on the other side :D It was like a massive rush! Explored the place for hours and when I died, spawned back on the first island :(

Yeah CVG is really going all out on GTA V coverage.

Yeah, they have been putting out weekly GTA V videos now for the last 4 months or so. I like listening to them while I work, though most of the chat is pretty meaningless stuff. In the Michael breakdown they were trying to figure out if he was left handed lol

Seems that actor Steven Ogg is playing the role of Trevor.

And his website: http://stevenogg.com/

Take a look at his pics and reels. Looks and sounds like Trevor to me.

Saw a quote posted on the gta forums I thought was interesting re draw distance. Not sure where it came from, maybe the GI reveal bback in December? Hope it's real anyway.

Aaron Garbut (Art Director) on the matter:

"There have been some very nice advances in the lighting and shader model that gives us much more control and variety. The ramp up in scale has been exciting, new features that have meant essentially we draw everything into the distance. We used to “only” render 1.5 km at most in IV, now we render the most distant mountains at the other end of the world many, many miles away. You can even see the little lights on the streets or on buildings draw right into the distance. It all gives the world a whole lot more solidarity. Really though, on a project this size there’s a million things, small and big., that have given us the ability to push the experience."

There was a thread, like yesterday, about them wanting to find the Trevor voice actor at all costs.
Damn, they did it.

Yep, that's from the first GI issue.

Also, turns out the "exclusive" stuff that X360 magazine hinted at a few days ago, was just flatout bullshit.
Kind of expected anyway, still, don't waste your time and money on it.
The article is 1 page, no new screens nor infos.

Yeah.. The downside is if you ever just want to start a game and screw around without going through all the missions, in that particular game 66% of the map give or take is blocked off. I'd always always always rather have more freedom, not less.

Also the dramatic punch of that scene was lessened for me when I hopped off my horse to pick a flower and the music abruptly stopped.

I always assumed most people keep a "Story Complete" file around for that. That's what I do.

The only time the progression system really did anything for me was with GTA III.
Incidentally, it was the only game where it was built into the story.

In every GTA afterwards it was just an ad hoc throwaway.

That thing in Red Dead didn't do much for me. Was more wow-ed by
Beecher's Hope and Blackwater
later on.

Just boot up the multiplayer. In both RDR and GTA IV, the entire map in fully open from the start.

A shame about San Fiero and Las Venturas. I'll miss the Golden Gate bridge and all the casinos. Parachuting off those was awesome.

One of the greatest gaming experience I've had with friends was playing San Andreas at launch and stealing an airplane from the airport and flying to the other islands. We would see who could last the longest and rotate the controller each time someone died.

Blocked off areas don't really bother me too much.

Blocked off areas are the best! I loved it. It made the game feel more like an epic adventure than just some sandbox. Driving Truth's van to San Fierro with Alligator Man playing in the background was one of my most memorable gaming experiences.

At least now you'll have real multiplayer though.

(i almost forgot San Andreas had local coop, damn).

Had this identical experience. When SA came out, my buddies and I spent a whole weekend doing this. We'd look at the minimap and try to get somewhere avoiding the 5* police and inevitably die.

Always liked how the islands unlocked in GTA games, but I've got nothing against having them all open... especially given how GTAV is setup with the multiple characters in different portions of the map.

I liked the San Francisco part of San Andreas. Especially Lombard street. It was fun as hell to attempt to drive down that thing at irresponsible rates of speed.
