New GTA V previews

Just beat Vice City on a playthrough, beat it in like 7 hours. Something I never knew is you don't need to buy the Malibu Club or do the bank robbery mission to reach the end, which also means you don't need to do the Phil missions either.

Once you can by the printing machine factory and do the three missions that come along with it the final mission is unlocked.

What the fuck?! :O

Is Rockstar planning any behind the design videos for GTAV? The ones for RDR, LA Noire, and MP3 were fantastic. They could make a ton of them, given the size of this game.

Between the previews for this, Watch Dogs, InFamous, Saint's Row 4, the new Pokemon stuff, and Animal Crossing... Pretty much every other game has fallen off the radar for the rest of the year for me.

So much open world.

I'm sure there are specific things that need to be done prior to printing press, meaning one person who beats printing press might not be able to do it while you can.

I just read info and you are correct.

You need to do the first two print missions, the third one is unlocked after you complete four assets/business missions. After completing the third printing mission the final mission is unlocked.

So all you really need to do to reach the end of the game is buy the cheapest properties. Which would mean the boatyard, Kaufman Cabs, the Pole Position Club, and Cherry Popper Ice Cream Factory. If the first two printing press missions count as a completed asset, you only need to do three of those along with the printing factory.

I'm ashamed to say i didn't know LA had a proper subway system
I knew it had trains (since i saw them in Collateral :p) but an underground subway?

So true =[

I'm always checking this thread and reading GTA Forums constantly (even though there are a ton of pointless threads over there). My wife thinks I'm crazy :lol
Tell her you're looking at weird porn, to maintain some dignity!

Can't spend much time on it now, but something of the sort:

ib1LzTualSkogL.png

Which is also closer to the sunset gif i posted above (probably a different ToD).
And before someone else gets offended, it's just a personal preference of mine, i'm not saying R* artists are disgraceful hacks.

You know, depending on location and atmospheric conditions, sunsets can look incredibly varied. I find absolutely nothing wrong with the depictions shown in GTAV screens so far with respects to realism.

I also find it rather ironic that your attempt to re-grade that shot makes it look far more reminiscent of instagram filters than the original.

A proper hipster-filter is what I am secretly hoping for.

Imagine playing the game through a proper hipsterphotographers eyes.

Who is with me?

I just started playing Ballad of Gay Tony on PC and it appears to have much cleaner image quality than vanilla GTA 4. Did they change the color grade filter or something?

Yeah, even on 360 I've always felt Ballad of Gay Tony looked cleaner. They must have removed a filter or something. Definitely looks less blurry than vanilla IV.

Yeah, the main story is incredible short in Vice City, on my last playthrough (a year or two ago) I also beat it in under 8 hours (to be fair, I ignored most of the property and side missions). I was very surprised that it is that short. On my first playthrough back in 2003 it felt so incredible long because I think I did most of the property and side missions first before reaching the end. I remember very well that after the credits only the Haitian missions were left to do.

That's so great about Vice City, it has a ton of fully fleshed out side missions, so the game as a whole doesn't feel short.

Yeah, with Vanilla GTA 4 there seems to be a pretty harsh filter applied to the image even on clear days. I was hoping to find a way to disable it or tweak it but there doesn't seem to be any easy way to just remove that filter. I was pleasantly surprised when I fired up Gay Tony.

I may be crazy but it may also be less intense in GTA 4 multiplayer but I'm probably not the best person to notice subtle changes.

I just wish they would tone down the instagram colors in the countryside sunsets:

They look unnatural, i didn't like them in The Witcher 2 and i don't like them here.
I suspect they're mostly to try and hide the limited draw distance with something that look more like fog, but they could still use more natural hues.

aaah... that california filter...

I'm guessing no.

GTA is their pet project. I believe Houser once stated that he wants to leave the production of the title a little more in secret. He states that because of this "mysticism" surrounding the development of the game the focus is on the game more and it becomes something special.

It is a way of handling PR I find refreshing and bold, some might say even arrogant. Look how much PR is generated through the constrained release of media. Magazines and sites spend 50 minutes on 1 minute trailers. People make 3D maps of pictures from the trailers. Based on these facts alone I think Houser has already made his point.

Altough I would love a sneak peek at the audio/radio design team (a.k.a. Lazlow) and the asset design team (ads, TV, Internet, logos etc.)

Same here. I would kill for some behind the scenes stuff like that, would be fascinating.

I have a feeling we won't get the design series videos for GTA V because they probably feel they don't need them. GTA garners attention rather easily compared to a new IP like L.A. Noire or dormant franchises like Red Dead and Max Payne that were previously handled by different developers.

I wouldn't mind being wrong, though, so we'll see.

So, so true. These next couple months are going to be so difficult! I got so accustomed to summer being completely devoted to Rockstar titles.

I think we should get a GAF group going for GTAIV online or something. To pass the time!

Truthfully, I think I'm okay with them not doing this. Like just going in there blindly after seeing these five trailers, no production footage or gameplay video series.

And getting lost in the wonder of a new GTA game- the first Faggio ride in Vice City, the first bike ride in San Andreas- moments like this. They do a hell of a job!

I remember the first gameplay footage I saw of GTA IV was the IGN video, which was on launch day lol. I knew it was pirated/leaked earlier but 5 years ago the streaming community wasn't as big as it is now.

I expect the first legit footage of the game to be out around launch day just like with IV. The game will probably leak a week before release like always (only this time it's the question whether PS3 or 360 leaks first), streamers will be on that game immediately. I remember seeing about half of RDR and the whole game of MP3 a week before release.

Haha, I love hunting for livestreams for new big games. It actually increases my hype more, especially with companies like R* that nuke the streams quickly. You see a glimpse of a mission or something cool and then *bam* it's gone. And everyone is just like "SHIT! THAT LOOKED SO COOL!". I mean I know some streams last for a long time, but I never seem to run into those.

I remember seeing like 5-10 minute streams of Red Dead constantly the weekend before it came out since they kept getting taken down, it was great :lol they're the perfect tease for me since I've never really cared about minor spoilers.

and dreamfall, I would love to play some GTA IV multiplayer, but I lent my copy to a friend last month. He's still playing through it since he's never finished it to prep for V.

GTAV looks beautiful. In those screenshots, it looks like a painting.

Makes me wish it was released on the next-gen consoles to take advantage of this. A PC release would also make me happy.

I'm almost certain there is gonna be a PC release maybe six or so months after.
I'm not as convinced about a next-gen port but I could see it, I don't think everyone should get their hopes up though.

I'd like them to do those gameplay videos liked they did for RDR, but truth be told, I also like the forced blackout R* does for GTA because it becomes such a huge event when we finally get to see it for the first time. No other game can match that IMO.

Day one GTA V is going to be one of my favorite times to be a Gaf member. The amount of discovery and discussion to be had is going to be insanely intoxicating.

Yeah. i'm not happy with my regrade either.
That's why i later (the post after that one) made a distinction between hues choices i don't like and atmospheric density that it's simply too near, looking weird (like in this case); simply because i reflected on it a bit more and came to a different conclusion.
I tried to remove what i didn't like on photoshop, for a couple of minutes, but i realized it wasn't something that had to do with the colors themselves (and didn't have more time to waste on it).

I'll happily take the mockery though, comes with the territory. ;P

Eh, "piss filter" has become a bit of a buzzword, like the obsession to call out on Blue&Orange™.
If i wanted all the game to be yellow it'd be true, but i said i'm more than happy with many other artistic choices:

--
Also, the game kind of looks like my image sometimes:

The pissfilter™ is already among us.

Anyway, let me instagram that image a little bit more:

If there is a PC release, why wouldn't there be a next-gen release?

The PC version of GTA IV has a number of improvements over the console version. I could see them releasing a next-gen version of GTA V with better textures and draw distance.

Thread will be up late tonight.

I remember this cat on Justin.TV playing it and seeing him go through Broker near the bridge to Bohan, him crashing, Niko flying through the windshield and hitting the highway sign and backflipping onto the concrete.

It blew my mind, not to mention tortured me that I couldn't play it.

I hope I can develop some self control this time around.

I'm guessing the effort put into the PC version is going to e minimal.

I'm going to save this and create SweetFX settings for GTA5 that make it look like that last image. Just for you ;)
That would imply a PC version. :(

I wasn't on GAF at the time, but the forum i was on, one user got it very early (honestly i don't if it was a legit copy or not) and i remember everybody from the GTAIV thread hooking up to his stream, making requests.
I just saw Niko running and jumping on the street, getting ran over by a car, and immediately closed the tab.

This time around i won't be even looking at streams, though it'll be hard to see everyone on GAF playing the game, while waiting the usual week for Amazon's package to arrive.

Hopefully they are aware of how most people feel about the PC release of GTAIV. Their lack of comments on a PC release don't have me feeling good.

At the time of GTAIV's PC release, a developer from R* Toronto (who did the port) came on GTAForums, to help people troubleshooting and that usual stuff.
I can't find the exact message now (don't really want to dig through tens of pages) but i remember him commenting that he was sorry for the shoddy port and that "for the next GTA" they would've had much more experience and would've used all the tricks in the bag (mentioning DX11 and stuff).
Now that was.. 2008/2009, so i don't know how much of it was just damage control bullshit, but given the amazing work on Max Payne 3, it makes me hope.
Ballad of Gay Tony was also a better port than GTAIV.

Sure, in between those you have RDR (no port at all) and LA Noire (abysmal port, though it wasn't a RAGE game) so everything is always up in the air.

My guess is that GTAV is their little treasured child, and they want to provide the best product possible with it, so they're probably focusing 120% of their workforce on making it run decently on Ps360, while at the same time they don't want to do another PC shoddy port, and that's why they'll take their time with it.. once the console version is out.

That, or.. they just don't give a fuck about PC, depends what side of the glass you want to see.

I'm also positive a PC port will come out. Somewhere around April of next year.

Next gen I'm not as convinced, but Mark Cerny has said PC to PS4 ports are very simple because of PS4'a architecture, so we'll see.

Consider the fact that this is a huge investment for Take2, they will want to get as much mileage as possible out of this one.
You don't release a game this big and just forgot about it, is what i'm saying.

Either way, I don't think either will be talked about much if at all before the PS360 launch.
