New model GBA SP?

okay I'll be nice: comparisonzz

My green one's the least bright, so I went from there:

New SP at low brightness:

New SP at high brightness:

As you can see, the new one really makes itself known. It's even better than the DS -- probably on par with the Micro but I don't have one yet.

Oh *snap*.

Well, if my cousins can have thirty+ pairs of $150 Jordan shoes of differeing colors but identitcal models, then I can have 6 or so GBAs.

:O

I just posted something similar in the other thread, but what is the deal here? Why is Nintendo releasing another SP right before the Micro comes out?

IMO the Micro has a much better d-pad and buttons compared to the SP, plus it has a more durable feel and fits in your pocket better than the SP, but of course the SP has a bigger screen and plays older GB/GBC games.

What. The. Fuck.

Is this for real, or are you people shitting me? I thought this was a joke thread. If I have to go buy myself another GBA SP, I will have vengeance.

I'll believe this when a valid news source reports it. Until then, I call BS.

How does it look with a game playing?

Yeah, I wanna know, too...

If you can, try putting two of the same game into two of them. If you don't have such, perhaps if you have two Super Mario Advance games, you can use the minigame to give an example. All if you have time. Thanks for all the pics. :D

Arrrrrrrrrrggggh!

How much does it cost?

$79.99.

Oh yeah, the battery... the box claims 13 hours, whereas they used to say 18 "with light off."

New pic with Metroid Fusion:

also compare it with the game playing on a DS

Model AGS-101. They're only in the new colors (Graphite / Pearl Blue) now. Who knows if they'll extend to the rest of the line.

WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK!

When the fuck did this stealth launch!?!?! WTF WTF WTF I repeat WTF

Wow, that screen looks great. I've been meaning to pick up a new SP anyway. This is the perfect time to pick one up. I've been wanting a graphite colored SP as well. Damn you Nintendo.

Meh I'll stick with the DS.

The next Game Boy I buy will be Game Boy Next, I'm done with GBA. There's no more games really coming out for it, and all the ones I want I can play on my DS.

Personally I don't see this as being that much different from what Apple just did by releasing the 6GB i-Pod minis and then releasing the i-Pod nano for more money to get less storage space.

Vs. DS!

Vs. each other!

both pics were at high brightness. Even at low the DS is still more washed-out.

Why are you guys upset? Did you buy a Micro first?

There's no other reason to be upset; they made an existing product better while adding new products, and the price didn't even go up!

We still need to get the Game Boy micro SP that will launch alongside the Legend of Zelda's 20th anniversary, complete with a re-release of Zelda 1 Famicom Mini and the latest GBA Zelda should one ever come.

Nintendo DS SP shall be released three months after Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are released. More sales right there!

Nintendo DS micro shall be released a few months after the PSP2 and GBA2 because Nintendo just loves us.

Nintendo DS micro SP will come because Satoru Iwata doesn't get enough credit for his line of work.

I think most of the reason some are pissed is nobody knew it even existed.

This move isn't that different from what Apple does sometimes. They quietly update an existing product while releasing a new one within a short time frame - see new iPod mini that had a major price drop and battery increase a month after the shuffle's release. Nintendo was unusually quick though. :lol

Seriously. It's as if the early Saturn launch happened before the Saturn was even announced. Were there even any RUMORS about this?

Well, now you know so you can choose which one you want if you still have a hard on for playing GBA titles. If anything you're getting quite a bargain for $79.99, that Nintendo honestly didn't have to offer, so why complain?

They could have just kept the old GBA SP with the older screens and no one would've known any better.

It was clear from E3 that the GB Micro was more of a fashion accessorie/gee-whiz type of device more than a significant upgrade to the Game Boy brand. When Nintendo showed the GB Micro a lot of ppl complained and said all they wanted was a GBA SP with a DS quality screen.

Now you're getting both options and the standard GBA SP has an even higher quality screen than the DS.

askas;lkfad. How "new hotness" changes our perception of the old. Was it only last year when I was so impressed by how GBA SP blew away any worm lighting solution?

Well, in my case if I'd found one in stock I would've bought a GB Micro yesterday.

This is great news for new SP buyers, but I wish they'd done it earlier in the life of the product. I've already got 4 SPs though, so I'm not about to buy another >_<

:lol Well see if you can return it, otherwise tough luck.

If I had a choice between the two, I'd still take the Micro myself, just because it's cooler looking and easier to carry around and you know there's going to be some sweet face plates in the future.

I already have the DS to play GBA SP at a high brightness if I want.

Ok. The next step is to determine how to swap the internals with those of my NES SP... then I'll sell my "old screen" new color model on eBay and keep a lovely backlit SP.

(Actually, that's probably not possible... making a backlit screen would mean the shell itself is slightly different, right? The screen is going to be slightly different in design...)

I guess I should've started a new thread for this instead of asking about it in the other thread so that more people would've known. :P

Now all Nintendo needs to do is release another NES SP with the brigher screen. :lol

jesus christ I thought this was a joke.

My guess is that Backlit screens simply became more economical with the DS and the Micro floating around.

Oh well I needed another SP for four player Four swords and Crystal Chronicles anyway ;)

Maybe I can snag a used one that will inevitably show up within the first week or so of these being out :)

noo_gbaG.jpg

Well. Now you know why I was apprehensive about using my dumb camera at first.

It'd be nice if we could just buy the screen from Nintendo's online store and swap it into our GBA SP's but that'll never happen. :(

Oh come on, Nintendo! I just bought a GB Micro and the main reason was the brighter screen. The unit itself is pretty decent, but the triggers are nearly as nice as the SP's.

Sigh, I guess this is what I get for being a Nintendo fan. Time to start browsing around for one of these. Wonder if they'll let out a few more Famicom SPs with this screen? Now that would be my ultimate GBA.
