According to a casting call for 20th Century Fox's New Mutants movie circulated by That Hashtag Show, the film's line-up will consist of some of the team's classic members The purported asting notice reveals that Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Magik, and Dani Moonstar are all part of the line-up.

Here are the individual breakdowns for each casting notice, all coded with names that don't reflect the actual identity of the character which is commonly done in films to obscure the identity of the film in question:

Cannonball - [CHRIS] Male, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Tall, corn-fed Kentucky kid.

Magik - [ANNA] Female, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Russian, sexy, with an obvious mean streak.

Sunspot - [ROB] Male, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Brazilian, cool, confident and extremely handsome.

Wolfsbane - [JESSICA]Female, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; British, punk rock shorn red hair, waif-like.

According to That Hashtag Show, Dani Moonstar is also in the film, but there is no casting notice as an actress has already been cast in the role.

New Mutants is currently in pre-production. No projected release date has been announced.

Warlock is also all but confirmed by the writers, directors and rumors.

When exactly is this going to take place in the "timeline"? Are the other mutants going to show up?

Supposedly 90s but yeah it's not like any real thought goes into having a consistent continuity in these movies.

Fassbender, McAvoy, Lawrence and that guy who plays Beast are all out of contract after completing their three movie deals with Apocalypse, so may or may not be back, and if they are back could just be a small role.

Dunno about other cast members introduced in First Class, Days of Future Past & Apocalypse. I imagine they might get Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan and/or Evan Peters back.

Hell, for ties to the original trilogy, which they are catching up with timeline-wise, they might bring back Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore or Anna Paquin. Probably wouldn't make sense to have Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellen unless they're delivering a message from the future and McAvoy/Fassbender said no. Hugh Jackman might take that paycheque for a cameo.

They might be going for more of a clean break though.

Past reports indicate it's set in the same period as the Apocalypse cast and that James McAvoy is in it as Professor X, though there's nothing official on that point.

But the next X-Men film is set in the 90s, probably with the young X-Men we saw in Apocalypse. New Mutants is another film.

Well we'll see if that film actually happens. I could see Xmen 7 not happening, it might depend on whether they are able to get at least McAvoy back, and to a lesser extent other principal cast members too. If they can successfully spin-off New Mutants, and get an X-Force movie off the ground via Deadpool, they might leave the mainline series to cool off for a while before the inevitable full reboot.

Either way, I imagine there will be an element of passing the torch in New Mutants. Any of the cast members I listed could appear to bridge the gap, even if the main focus will be on the New Mutants.

McAvoy has already said, on many occasions, that he's game to do more, and talked recently about the next film being developed. What rumours there are indicates it's about the Phoenix.

Huh? She better be Scottish.

The casting call says Brazilian hopefully it's accurate. Not so sure I want to see their version of Warlock.

You know, when people say russian you can easily imagine one type of person, because 85% of the people there share some similar features.

Brazil it's a steaming pot of cultures from around the world, from europe to africa to having the biggest japanese population outside of Japan. So i ask you, what is being accurate on chosing a brazilian?

Totally missed that but yeah. Also doubt they will keep her religous angle

Edit:didn't want to double post.

I get that and it's why I said hopefully. Hopefully along with other things that have come out they are familiar enough to know he's not white, and someone who is not white and also Brazilian would be perfect since that is what Bobby is.

Of course someone pointing out the casting call has Rahne listed as British kind of puts a damper on that and if they do cast someone who's white for bobby regardless of ethnicity it's enough to make me not watch.

Past reports about demon bear and the seeming familiarity had me hopeful but further thought on the casting call and them doing Warlock kind of dampens my enthusiasm.

uh huh

Taylor-Joy will play Magik, a girl who has learned sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel. She is also the sister of Colossus, an X-Man who appeared in Deadpool.

Williams will play Wolfsbane, a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.

"a girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.'

I find it really hard to not laugh at that.

Of course they will pursue the "sexy" angle on Magik -_-

Stupid sexist Hollywood, corrupting the purity of this character.

I mean how could they miss the point so badly?

Do they not get her at all?

MagikI_11.jpg

If they didn't go out of their way to cast someone sexy it would have allowed them to depict her so much better.

magik_new_mutants.jpg

It's like they just don't get it.
-_- -_- -_-

On the New Mutants era, Magik was 12 years old at best.
The Darkchylde and adult versions that you posted were after Belasco's corruption.

Okay, I see where you're coming from. None of these casting calls seem to be drawn from that era when they were all actually depicted as being young, even if the plot points will be. It's probably because they want actors 18 & up who they don't have to deal with as minors. At which point it makes sense to go with the depictions they've had for the last 25 odd post X-Force years of their existence.
