What's it missing really? It has Mario, Zelda, Kirby. Maybe a Star Fox or F-Zero game?
Btw I'm going into this that a game won't be the big announcement. I'm going all in on NX reveal date. Gotta take risks lol
Normally I would also, but since they went out of their way to say they won't talk about NX, and since NX is a new product and they have investors watching closely, my expectation is that a date reveal is a bit less likely. I'd be delighted to be wrong, though.
I can't wait for Nintendo to showcase this masterpiece !

It's almost like there's no real reason to complain other not getting exactly what you want when you want it since there are still six months to announce shit.
The strongest candidate would be another Mario Sports title. It's pretty much shovel ware time for the system. But it still doesn't have a WarioWare, Advance Wars, F-Zero, Excite, Mother, etc.

but I don't understand how anyone can feel like frustration with Nintendo right now is unwarranted or people who expect something more from this direct than trailers for games we've already seen 1000 times or new Animal Crossing amiibo that unlocks some tee-shirts in New Leaf or something are unrealistic or entitled etc.
NX aside, can we put into context that 2016 has been pretty much the worst release schedule in Nintendo's history. And since the beginning of 2015 Nintendo has stretched content that would barely fill a span of 6 months into nearly 2 years.
Not only have we had barely anything to play but we barely have any real idea of whats coming or what even to look forward to. They had a great showing of Zelda at e3.. sure.. but they pretty much had no presence there outside of that. And in 2015, the World Championships were fun, but even back then they had nothing new in their direct to show off..
It feels like we have been waiting forever for any decent bit of information or any exciting news at all from them. I don't understand how anyone can say people haven't been patient.
Give us anything. Any indication of what month even they'll talk about their new system.
I'd be happy with them focusing on 3DS if I had any confidence of something more interesting like a 3DS Mario Galaxy remake for the Holiday. But we know they won't because they are saving anything interesting for NX. Which is why people want to hear about it so desperately. If we aren't getting anything interesting to play this Holiday then just tell us what's coming out later. 3DS and WiiU have been dying slow deaths and it has been a difficult wait.

Captain Toad is a good fit for 3DS. I would hope it comes out as an eShop game. That and my dream Nabbit stealth 3D game using the same engine. I yearn for the inevitable thread where people ask me to post if I'm okay.

I think I made a mock-up of the 3D Land 2 logo with the Frog suit ages ago... I adored 3D Land. It was everything Galaxy wasn't (but I loved Galaxy too!).

If some people can't see the hilarity in what's going on here I dunno what to tell em. Yeah Nintendo is announcing stuff for 3DS. That's all good and well, but look at the context.
My uncle is Bill Trinen and she showed me footage of Super Smash Bros for NX, so I guarantee you that will be in the Direct.

Mario Galaxy HD to tide us over until Zelda would be a wonderful thing. Hard to believe that game is coming up to 9 years old now.
I understand your frustration and I don't mean to diminish it, but I wanted to point out a few things if I may, in semi-reverse order.
(1) Though Nintendo originally said they'd only show Zelda at E3, it's not accurate to say they had pretty much no presence there outside of that. We also saw at length Pokémon, Mario Party, new amiibo, Color Splash, Ever Oasis, BOXBOXBOY!, DQVII and Rhythm Heaven, which released during the show.

(2) It's also not accurate to say that in 2015 they had nothing new to show off at E3. We saw Star Fox Zero, Tri Force Heroes, Federation Force, Mario Tennis, Hyrule Warriors: Legends, Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam for the first time. We also saw new info regarding SMM, FE, SMTxFE, XCX, Happy Home Designer, and YWW.
(3) Regarding this being the worst year for Nintendo releases, we have this year seen:
