New PGR4 Hands-on + Pics

Am I the only one that hates the shitty AF (?) used in these next gen racers? I hate it when ~25ft in front of your car, the road texture turns to a blurry piece of shit. Why spend so much damn time getting some building textures perfect on the side that no one ever looks at, yet the road, which youre pretty much always looking at, look like shit. Can anyone answer this? Am I the only one that thinks this is kind of retarded?

in these screenshots, its because its taken in Photomode and it is a style type deal, the actual ingame racing doesnt have the problem (atleast PGR3 didnt).

...are you serious? I mean really, PGR3 was one of the worst offenders, the textures were great everywhere, then like 100 ft or so in front of the car the road had vaseline all over it. If anything, the photomode shots eliminate this problem, not introduce it.

Nope; you're exactly right. Rather staring towards the track and its curves and undulations, the weird blur draws your eye every time.

I'd rather all the "guilty" racing games did no blur than that strange hybrid. Very distracting.

If they're releasing PGR4 in September, then that frees up November for another first party title........Mass Effect anyone? IMO, if Mass Effect can't hit in November then we'll proabably be waiting until March for it to be released.

I think what im thinking about is different than what your thinking about.

and the DeLorean is going to be awesome, im liking more and more how they are going with Iconic cars

Heh, PGR3 had it really bad. Real bad. I thought this was pretty much common knowledge, I'm surprised that you are ok with it.

I agree Joates, I thought this game would have fixed it, and in earlier shots it looks like they did, but in that one I posted, it's as clear as dyfb in a 360 game thread.

yeah, im starting to think I was thinking of something else than everyone else

:lol

september release is insanity. i wont have time to play both pgr4 and halo 3, its just too much in one month. my number 1 and 2 favorite game franchises.

Is it just me or have the impressions so far been... underwhelming?

underwhelming in the reporting yes. they dont go into deapt into anything, they just state the obvious.

1up and ******* both just made the same generic comments about the game.

The only thing that you might even have to worry about is how the bikes handle, its PGR, I highly doubt they can **** it up too severely...

Well, it if controls like MotoGP I'll be happy. Then again, I'm no bike expert, don't know what bike fans thought of that game.

I suppose I should also consider the fact that PGR has always meant racing in style, and that this concept will be applied to bikes. I'm sure you could do a lot more tricks with bikes. Maybe you could pull wheelies to extend your Kudos combos?

You should read the IGN preview.

Heh, thanks for telling me...I totally missed it when you posted it. Saw the pics and that's it. :P

It looks like they made Cops and Robbers and Cat and Mouse official modes...that's pretty cool.

DELOREAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shit yeah, better have the engine noises authentic!

ok wtf all these damn screens of bikes.

i dont want this to be some bike centric game. start showing use some cars or videos of cars cause thats all i want.

The images within the body text of that Bizarre article are apparently captures from a vid, judging by the filename. Probably from a trailer we'll see soon.
There are some gorgeous shots, and only two of them have visible aliasing, so I'm a bit suspicious of the rest. Hopefully we can obtain the same results through photomode, but I don't expect gameplay to look quite as amazing as those shots.
These are the ones with teh jaggies:

PGR has copious blur in gameplay, so these shots are probably worse than the actual game will generally look.
Should be great in motion, and I can't wait to play it. I loved PGR3.

I hope we get to see a new garage mode... that was one of my favorite things in PGR3, as superfluous as it was. It really drove the collecting thing home and was visually stunning (aside from the framerate).

I'm also somehow underwhelmed. I don't know, but after playing FlatOut UC a lot, the PGR4 car models, textures and especially the lighting really aren't particularly impressive anymore. Sure, the cities look awesome (the Nürburgring doesn't though), but since 30 fps are confirmed once again, I expect a little bit more in terms of graphics. I mean, it really doesn't look significantly better than PGR3.

how so? I think it's a dayone-aton for most

I agree - this is definitely 1st day for me, no question.

However, the previews I've read (IGN, 1up) haven't exactly been floored by the game. They talk about the kudos, they talk about the dynamic weather, etc. etc - but it reads like they're playing racing game #135305. Considering that the graphics look better than ever, the dynamic system looks cool as hell, and we have bikes (BIKES!), I expected the previewers to be floored by the game. Nobody has really gone out on a limb and said anything mindblowing about the game.

I think that's because of the weather system, I would imagine that this game will basically be an optimized version of the PGR3 engine with the added weather. If done properly it could add a really interesting element to the PGR franchise.

well, I think I remember that PGR3 was consistently in the top-10 of the most played games on live for well over 12 months.
and since there's no doubt that pgr4 is the more complete and fine tuned game of the two,
I think its future is already prescribed.

plenty of great racing games are just out on 360 though, like forza and flatout, plenty more are coming, like the latest sim'ish nfs, sega rally etc, so any previewer might get dazzled and loose focus momentarily,
but until now, the prime car franchise on xbox (and with very good reason too) is the duo pgr-forza.
and from what I've seen until now, I dont see this changing. I'd love to be proven wrong though.. great car games are always welcome! :)

ok, I want rallysport challenge too!

YOU CAN'T SEE ME!

Man, even though the textures of the cars don't wow me yet like they did in PGR3 (probably because they're still early), every pic undoubtebly screams fun...

All I wanted was them to back off on the supercar obsession that was PGR3... Looks like its going to be more of the same when it comes to cars this time around :(

Well, I will still get the damn thing on day one.

PGR has always been my fave for arcade racing online and 4 looks better and better every time I visit this thread. I also think I might skip moto gp '08 because gotham 4 is giving me all the love I need in one package.

07, right?

i'll still get that, as i'm SURE it will rock. just hope its 60.

i wish all these "hands on" reports would delve into the bike handling and gameplay details... i still have no idea how collisions will work. i suppose we'll likely get in-game footage though

BC answered some of that today,
http://www.bizarrecreations.com/article.php?article_id=5250

Basically, their answer to bike collisions is this,
Generally the rule is: if it's your fault then you'll come off. If it's not, you won't.
