No worthwhile jokes yet.

Somebody pointed out that "Pope Francis" is an anagram of "profane pics", but that's about it.

Argentina is basically a European country trapped in South America. I think close to 90% self identify as European descent.

Ehh I think they do it more out of an abundance of ego. They see themselves as above the rest of South America. They complimented me on my Spanish (which the call "Castellano") when I was there, and I explained that with my proximity to Mexico growing up, I learned a lot from friends...to which they tutted, expressing that Mexican Spanish and their Spanish were totally different languages (they're not at all).

"Religion sucks long live metallica and satan!"

High-end trolling.

People from Spain are latinos too. Many of them refer to themselves as such.

the term Latino is a bullshit term created by France to try to create some sort of cultural superiority vibe for Italy, France, Portugal and Spain during the height of French cultural influence.

the term stuck onto South America during those same times during post colonialism and independence of Latin American countries

As a Practicing Catholic I'll give my first takes, because I think some people might be curious to hear our perspective (You might not be, but ah well)

Well, it's huge to see an Argentinian Pope, one of the Italian Cardinals (sorry I forget which one) had said earlier that they (The Conclave) need to look at our Brothers outside of Europe, particularly in Latin America.

Pope Francis I is likely not because of Francis of Assissi, but more likely Francis Xavier who was a great Jesuit and missionary.

Also, this is kind of surprising, this was the first time a new Pope recites the prayers with the people on his first appearance, Our Father, Haily Mary and Glory.

Another take was his refusal to wear the red cape (I don't remember the proper name right now, Sorry!) in contrast to both Benedict XVI and John Paul II, who both wore it. It looked like he just wanted to be very humble about this.

Thank you those of you who aren't exactly of my faith who are being respectful, haha even some of those jokes have made me laugh quite a bit. This is, quite a historic moment.

I don't expect him to change church views on things, but he does seem to be a guy who is going to rail on the 1%, and push support for the poor.

Its pretty awesome. Thanks for the perspective!

As someone who was raised a Catholic, and is forever straddling the line between lapsed and devout... I'm just glad he's not evil looking like the last one. That's a start.
