Huge difference on the contrary, you don't have to think just about the APU itself, but about what a lowered power consumption means for the rest of the system as well. You can use a smaller and simpler heat dissipator, the motherboard can be designed with less expensive components and can be more compact. It's a domino effect. The greatest effect will be seen with a APU shrink plus using 8 chips of memory instead of 16, something that will be possibile with 8Gbit (1GB) modules.

What I don't get is if you can shrink the internals on PS3 why would you stick with the presumably larger casing of the current super slim as that would just use more plastic and cost more than a smaller design with less plastic. Plus wouldn't the shrink of components mean a smaller fan as well?
Not that I'm an expert on how much a smaller PS3 case using less materials would save on bom over the current super slim casing.

Not an expert either, but wouldn't a new case mean costs too, creating new designs, testing them how they cool the hardware, how loud it is, etc?

I foresee a smaller PS3 model for cost reasons, but the PS4's slim revision is probably a year off. Sony loves to revamp the internals of their system without bringing much attention to it.
Super Slim has 45nm Cell and 40nm RSX.
They were shrunk down to 22nm and 28nm last year and as of yet haven't featured in a retail model.
The shrinkage is great for cooling, power consumption and saving Sony money.

Maybe be if it's missing the hard disk and optical disk drives.

I wouldn't expect any major revision, but maybe a slight styling variation like the early PS2 slim to the later one?
Because the Superslim desperately needs to do something different with its styling. Just losing the ridges would do wonders.

Looks like fat Metal Gear model might get replaced soon....Its a trooper tho, still going strong, but it has issues here n there I know a new model will fix.

I find my surprise to be opposite to most. New model for PS4 is unexpected but I was definitely expecting a new smaller model of the PS3 to be revealed soon. Compared to the slim PS2 the "super slim" PS3 isn't that teeny, really. Although the inclusion of a hard drive will certainly make it bigger.

Ps3 still has life left. A smaller PS3 at 180 dollars would be awesome. I'd probably get a 2nd one to accompany my launch model.

The article says that the maximum clock frequency is 2.75 GHz. Is that only for Devs?
Yes please. Also, what are the smallest physical dimensions needed to fit a Disc Drive, 2.5" HDD, and Internal PSU into a frame for a new PS3? Probably including the fan and chipset too that is. The PS4's late year pricing is going to be insanely low isn't it? The HDD will probably be the most expensive part.
I'm going to just assume that it's going to be in the super slim casing as to not get my hopes up.
I would probably buy a good looking super-duper slim though at this point. My OG slim is pretty huge, and I'm planning on having a PS2/3/4, Wii U, GC, and DC all hooked up after I move this summer, so I could use the space.

That is the maximum frequency operated by any component in PS4, which is used by the GDDR5 and the rest are less than this.

I still have my phat PS3, and I'm terrified of it kicking the bucket any day now. I wouldn't mind buying a super slim or this new revision, if it's at a good price. It would be much easier to carry it around, too, it's a hassle to move my PS3 right now.

But more importantly, it would be a reduction in manufacturing cost. Theoretically the PS4 should be able to reduce it cost and customer price much faster then the PS3 did and Xbone can.
Could be any number of minor tweaks. The PS2 had something along the lines of 18 versions, though people generally just think of there just being the fat, the slim with external power supply, and the slim with internal power supply.

Well it's no secret that the Ps4 wifi chip is very underwhelming in all types of network test. For one, it does future proof the system the way it should of for one, but it's is pretty messed up for the people who have that 2.5ghz chip in there who would love to have that 5.
