The Media Player works with both your home server and when plugging a USB stick with media into one of the available ports on the PS4. Your home server will appear as a media option in the player automatically and finding your media is simple and quick. You may also simply enjoy music as background music on your PS4!

MKV support!? Excellent, and the supported file formats mean i dont have to use my PS3 or 360 just to play avi's anymore.

But shit, still not direct copy to HDD? Well we'll get there hopefully

There doesn't appear to be any subtitle support for MKVs with this Media Player. Hopefully they'll fix that for a future release.

Hem. I just went back to a windows pic for the first time in a very long time. Running Windows 8.1. How can I create a home server for my PlayStation to connect to?

People still don't have computers to connect to their TV for all media?

It's not always convenient, especially if your desktop only and don't own a laptop.

I have my PC connected to a TV in my bedroom but for the TV in my living room, I'm still reliant on PS3 Media Server.

Still pissed there's no FLAC support though. Looks like I'll be using my PS3 for some time yet.

No? Well, at least, I don't have a PC.. . Anything I'd really use a PC for, besides gaming of course, I use my mobile for. The ability to watch things from it on my TV is massive, and now that I don't have to switch back to the PS3 or turn to the Chromecast, it's really convenient. Baffling that the 4 didn't have it from the get-go.

So does this mean now i can stop using my PS3 as my media centre?

Has anyone tried this and does it work the same as the PS3 media centre programme from PC -> PS3?
