New Splinter Cell will be open world (similar to Halo), and a more stealthy Assasin's Creed

I'm not familiar with splinter cell but the picture that's painted for assassins creed is you can function the game as stealth or barbaric (Vikings).

Open world is a great idea, MGS5 was great.

What open world games out there would be a good template for you to really improve and take them forward? The only ones I can think of are rdr2 and breath of the wild. Notice how neither game has character leveling or skill trees?

I have no idea. I just know that it's not linear and for that I thank God. Open world gives developers a significantly bigger canvas to create something special. Good news to me.

LMAO there are people here who are STILL not tired of ubisoft's factory made open world games? Jeez how much endurance do you have? They are going to fuck over splinter cell.

So if this happens, we can expect Sam Fisher to have objectives where he must capture towers/stations/etc.

MGS and Hitman have already approached open world. We don't need another one. I'm sure fans of the genre and series don't want that whatsoever.

(Lists two linear stealth games)

"So we don't need another one!"

I guess the franchise needs to become a racer or JRPG.

I have no problem with this if done right.

Blacklist was sorta more open (at least it was more open in the sense you had many ways to tackle objectives) and it was amazing.

I was referring to Phantom Pain and Hitman 3. While both aren't wholeheartedly "open world", they provided a more open world than linear experience.

But hey, alright.

Your premise is that they already made two open world stealth games so we don't need a 3rd.

Why doesn't that logic apply to the fact that there are about 27 linear stealth games already made?

My original reaction was more about open world games in general, as there have been a great deal of open world titles, period. I mentioned those implying that 2, to me, was enough. The reception to their gameplay as well.

It really wasn't meant to be that deep. Not sure why you're so honed in on it, lol.

Why are people whining about open world?
What do you want? Levels? Mission-by-mission closed environments? WTF? It's 2020s; every game should offer as much freedom to the player as possible, especially in a stealth game. I don't want 1 or 2 options for scenarios; I want to be able to approach every situation in as many creative ways as possible.

Horrifying.

As expected people are crying over "open-world" when MGSV and the Hitman trilogy are the best stealth games of the last decade
No Ubisoft dev will put the same level care into open world stealth that Kojima or IOI do.

Can't wait to sneak walk to the walls 10 miles away I can do the jump splits on to cold-cock your ass.

A Hitman/MGS V would work well for Splinter Cell, maybe choose your Night/day, entrance/exit strategies like Hitman. Stealth chopper drop in or scuba entrance etc..

Concept worked for MGSV but we're talking about Ubisoft here. It will basically be FarCry with night vision and enemies who can only look in one direction for 6ft.

?

Or...Wildlands. Why did you bring up Far Cry when Ubisoft literally has a series like Splinter Cell that is open world already in 3rd person that would actually fit this more? So....I expect this more so to be like what we saw from Wildlands or MGSV.

Large world to kill, capture, destroy etc. Landing zones to evacuate, day and night to factor into the mission organically etc. So I think if done correctly, it can be an amazing concept and they already have a lot of that in many of their titles. I would not be shocked if it becomes the best selling Splinter Cell game in history. I think many are sleeping on just how well that concept can be done and how much it actually fits Splinter Cell. The fixed scenario imho is no where near as exciting as the open concept where day and night, random weather events and unscripted things occur that cause the player to think on their feet and adapt.

because i have not played Wildlands and forgot it existed.

I agree with MIB on this one, keep in mind your comment on MGSV and Hitman 3 is solid, but doesn't need some generalization like "a great deal of open world titles", not all open world games are created equal. Open world isn't a genre.

One can have a open world racer, open world RPG, open world farm simulation etc.

I think we have room for this concept and MGSV and even Wildlands shows a great loop can exist with a open structure on stealth and it makes more sense for this genre to be more open to create those amazing random moments in the first place.

Warablo Warablo agreed and respect for seeing how that can be implemented. I think many are stuck on this knee jerk reaction on hearing "open world" instead of really thinking about how that can work with this genre and IP

Oh no, of course. I never meant to make it sound like "there's a ton of open world stealth games" cause yeah, there aren't. I'm sure it could work, and work well.

I just think the abundance of recent open world call is tiresome is all. Call it a knee jerk, but I feel it's fair to a certain degree.

"A more stealthy Assassin's Creed…"

After seeing what they've done to the stealth in recent Assassin's Creed games over the years, I'm not too high on this lol.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

not this ...
Ok, splinter cell was always more or less "open level" but that is all that it should be. Please no open world. This really can't work.

I'm tired of open world games, but I wouldnt mind an open world Splinter Cell game

Basically MGS V, but urban environment
Yeah it will be fresh for the series. I wish games would mix it up. So linear campaign with multiplayer for one game then the next open world and no multi. Keep it varied.

Nothing wrong with open world concept for Splinter Cell. It actually makes a lot of sense for that gameplay type.

It all depends on how interesting they make it, and that's where Ubisoft's track record isn't so hot.

TIL some people don't prefer open world games

the more open worlds the better IMO

I love this trend
Because open world games are complete garbage that prioritize quantity over quality. There's not a single gameplay element that isn't better done in a linear styled game
