How do you actually track objectives in this game?

I use the scouts but they are limited. Even using them marks a damn blue large area and I waste tons of time actually trying to find the objective.

Wth am I doing wrong?
I think that's how it's supposed to be? Makes you think a little more than just going to spot marked on map. It does stagnate the flow of the game a bit though, so maybe I'm wrong.

Yap. I found my target. Was inside a house.

Btw why do cutscenes look insanely rough compared to the actual game?

OK I finished it. 51 hours.
I skipped a ton of side quests in the 2nd half of the game but I still did some.

Some remarks and then spoilers:
-Incredible graphics and weather. Just wow.
-Same for locations. Picturesque everywhere.
-Game is clearly about Naoe.... yasuke is great as a character but it barely is his game.
-Every main mission = the bad guy is in tenchu. EVERY SINGLE MISSION. I got sick of hearing the word CASTLE.
-So very repetitive, tons of collectibles, terrible "knowledge" mechanic forcing you to pray at temples and look for hidden pages. It's just time wasting. If I want to explore, I will. Don't gate my leveling behind forced exploring.
-Once I had my sword and my armor, I never changed. I just kept upgrading at home base. Never changed my gear. Bleed build for naoe, big mace build for yasuke.
-Story is just 5/10. It has nice moments but it's because characters are OK, not the story.
-Parkour sucks. You get stuck on stuff a lot. It's not smooth like it was in first games. I almost want to play 1 again just to compare.
-Music is ok. Could be a bit more of it.
-Combat is just serviceable. nothing special. Feels very artificial when fighting 2-3 levels higher enemy. he will look at you and you are dead... just like always in those games. I think I ended with level 39.
-... this is the ending?! what?! for real?!

-Yasuke story is great when he is a slave transformed into samurai and his connection to nobunaga and then Naoe... but then suddenly this fucko fuckaro comes in?! Who fucking cares?
We know he was a slave. This should be about him helping Naoe with assassin stuff. Why even bother telling "slave kills a master" story in the last 5% of the game. There is not even a setup.
-So I was avoiding later side missions because who cares about junjiro... Did shimbakufu missions (most unsatysfing shit ever), all naoe missions, (wow we have 2 boxes. You gotta find last one... but you don't) and did yasuke quest only to be meet with credits?! After killing this random templar slaver?! Now the credits roll ?!?!?!?!?!! not after the naoe quest?! after yasuke stupid slaver revenge that was done as soon as it was revealed?!
Then I went and did the junjiro mission about making the soup or some shit... and apparently this unlocked the "real ending" where they are all happy, talk about 'yep we are done" and we get a nice view in setso... and no credits... seriously...

Nothing is resolved. We don't get to know anything more about 3rd box, assassins, naoe mother, nothing. We get the cool twist where father explains everything on the horse but that's it.
We also get 0 (ZERO) modern world scenes. Nothing. At this point, why is this an AC game even?! what's the point to all this "this is memories of DNA blahblahblah". What an absolute nonsense.
Naoe story should be explored more, assassins involvement... but it does not. We just get yasuke kills his slaver and it's credits. And the slaver name is first said like 5 hours before this...

If at least the credit rolled AFTER the trio looks at the sunset.
Ohhhh. And they never show what's in the box.
Have I missed some mission? Is that it?
The game gets 6/10 and 10/10 for graphics and weather. Worth it alone to roam around japan... but it's still a struggle tog et through shimbakufu quest. Some personal side quests are GOOD but it's not the focus.

Don't know how to tell you this...but
they locked the ending behind the DLC. The Claws of Awaji DLC will continue where the base game left off and it'll probably revolve around the third box and Naoe's mom.

new games await you!
It wasn't really bad. I enjoyed my 50 hours for the most part. But it was repetitive and went nowhere.

Thinking about maybe doing ghost off Tsushima now or rise of ronin. Or I should do something completely different

What a waste of time. Holy shit

Does anyone else think they've made the HDR/color grading worse on PS5 Pro after recent updates? It looks overly bright now and bleached out to me whereas the release HDR settings seemed perfect

Yes, all open world game have bloat and repetitive gameplay but the good ones like witcher 3 and ghost make up for it by having a great campaign with interesting story beats, characters and mission design.
Agree for Witcher 3, Ghost don't know as I played only a few hours, can't stand the combat, how they all come at you like it's vintage AC, maybe I was harsh and wasn't in an open world mood and I'll give it another try.
I actually like the open world gameplay loop here. I love yasukes combat. I love exploring castles and I'm like 60 hours in. What i don't care for is the repetitive nature of the story missions where you go and hunt down the samurai templars target. They all play out the same. They don't have any interesting characters because they keep introducing new ones with every target. its all so boring i can't stand it.
That's what I'm saying, the gameplay/combat is good, it's really fun to smack and kick everyone around with Yasuke. Naoe is also fun if you like sneaking around and have patience, what I don't like is that there's no incentive in being stealthy, no penalty, it's all just for you.

The story missions yeah, some have potential there, but there are too many, and they end abruptly because there needs to be another and another. I said the Yasuke flashbacks and some few story ones feels like they've been designed and written by another team.
What I think it's trash it's most of the side quests, especially some of the companions quests, Jesus, the writing there makes me want to jam a pencil in my eardrums.
I'm honestly aching to play a sony first party game right now. Call me woke but id rather play a game with a campaign written By competent writers featuring an actual plot and interesting characters. Something i can dissect or care enough to dissect. The world needs sony games. No one else has stepped up in nearly 2 years.
The only Sony games that impressed me story wise are God of War for the mythological crazyness and Uncharted for the silly actiony type and charismatic characters, I know, weird, lol. Also to an extent Death Stranding, but that has some weird shit that makes me wonder what I'm seeing or listening to.

GamingTech's video about the new HDR hotfix. HDR has been improved but there's still a little bit of banding. He thinks PSSR is worth using since the HDR issue is now minor:

So let me see if I got this right: this is mainly a ninja based game, with emphasis on parkour, and Naoe can't run across walls horizontally?

Its kind of crazy how much time is wasted on cutscenes and friends and developing this entire structure of the world, but they don't do any cool missions with it.

It doesn't have to be a linear mission but cmon

I think once you've infiltrated one castle you've did them all

Tehre is NOTHING.
Tons of buildup for Naoe story... and it goes nowhere.
Meanwhile the bad guy introduced in last 10% of the game becomes the focus and ends the game....

I have never played an AC game before but this caught my attention. Will I enjoy this?
Do you like a shorter, more tight experience or a longer, unfocused mess? Shadows is the latter. It's alright for a Ubi+ sub for the first 20-30 hours but shits itself after that and overstays its welcome. I recommend trying it out with a Ubi+ sub to sate your curiosity or wait for a deeper sale, but it's really not a good game. Within the RPG series Origins and Odyssey are much better despite sharing some of the issues.

So let me see if I got this right: this is mainly a ninja based game, with emphasis on parkour, and Naoe can't run across walls horizontally?
I wouldn't say that. It's got emphasis on stealth. Parkour doesn't really exist in this game, don't let Naoe's stylish animations fool you. It doesn't have the city layout to provide proper parkour and just like you said, even rock climbing (something that was present in the 3 RPG games prior) is gone. The game doesn't like you going off the beaten path.

So… I've got to thank ac shadows.
It made me finally launch ghost of Tsushima that have been on my shelf ever since. It's the directors cut ps5 disc.
… and hoooooooly fuck I've put 10 hours into it today. What an incredible game and a stark contrast to ac shadows. Wow.
What a striking difference. The gameplay is snappy, combat is fantastic, no jank, parkour is way more seamless, hud and menus are very simple. No bs, very gripping story… and it's actually open world and not a bunch of corridors. Ezploration and side activities are great and very rewarding. Side missions are also very good.
And graphics are amazing and very cohesive. It's undeniably last gen. No rtgi and no super detailed models and lods
But art is fantastic. I would be ok if games never looked better.
I only needed 5 years and playing ac shadows to finally play got…

Next on the list is rise of ronin (disc already arrived) and nioh games.

I'm slowly playing the game and so far have killed 2 mask enemies but I feel like the game is disjointed as fuck.

It's a borefest of the lame and boring activities, be it main or side ones.

Does it get better in any possible way?

It doesn't get better.
You kill more mask guys and tons of others. All in the same way.
And activities don't change.
You do get to see some amazing locations/graphics

Not really, no. In fact, it's only going to get worse because you figured out the gameplay loop and the loop kinda sucks.

I managed to reach 130+ hours and no, act 1 was its peak. The story is disjointed and all these side missions just take you to other locations but by then you will have forgotten how they started.

If they had made it so that each side mission of specific groups you can hunt down were limited to a region then it would have been more consistent and easier to follow. The whole mission design is all over the place.

If it wasn't for the graphics, environment and weather effects, I wouldn't have bothered.

Finished the main quest tonight after about 80hrs of playtime. I loved this game, to me it is currently the best at fulfilling the fantasy of exploring feudal Japan. Therefore I'm willing to overlook a lot of its faults because of all the fun I had doing that, my jaw-dropping at so many beautiful vistas and being totally absorbed for about 40 hrs. in the addictive AC gameplay loop that reminded me of how I felt about this series in its early days. This feeling wore off after I saw the extent of the side activities and gameplay mechanics, but never quite left me completely. I simply loved exploring this world. However the quantity of content far outlasts the mechanics, and they could have had something truly special if they followed a more quality-over-quantity approach and cut the amount of side content in the game in half. The structure of the game is also quite strange. I think they should have encouraged people to do the main quest earlier on in their playthrough somehow, and make it so that once you progress past a certain point you unlock a region's side quests. Or if they want to keep the open-ended, unordered approach they should have handled it better. Exploring Japan was the most fun part of the game for me, so I did it a lot. But then, it would be very unrewarding when a story mission asked me to go back and infiltrate a castle that I just got done clearing a second time. Another thing is that they bet on you running into a quest on this huge map before assassinating a target to have the context as for why you are doing so. Of course, the chance of this not happening is quite high so sometimes you end up assassinating people for no reason which breaks immersion. Story was just OK *(but honestly one of the better AC stories).

Still, I could see myself coming back for the DLC because of how much I enjoyed it. The best looking open-world in any game. 8.5/10.

This is exactly why I play video games, fun gameplay and an interesting world to explore, the rest is a bonus.

Does the game have faults left and right when you start poking too much, yeah, of course, is there an open world game that doesn't?

They handled the whole Yasuke / Naoe joining forces way better than I thought it would be to be honest.

Yeah that was excellent. The mission, the story, the gameplay, the presentation, the cutscenes, the bossfight; everything was dope.

Man the vibes in Act 1 are so good.

I'm quite surprised with Yasuke. Dude is fun to play.

I havent finished it yet, but honestly im 70 hours in and I think it's a 8/10 game with the atmosphere carrying the entire game on its shoulders. It is probably the most impressive looking game to date alongside Cyberpunk and a few others. Story is fine, it's not bad but not great, it's something Ubisoft never managed to get good at however I do enjoy the little stories you find in the game they really nailed the whole Japanese morality thingamajig. The game is pretty much Ubisoft THe Game, the entire thing is assassinate a lot of people as the name implies and I had no issues as I expected to have with Yasuke. Outside of some jank the AI has some crazy detection on hardest difficulty, going on the roofs is pretty much a no-go. There are a lot of small annoyances that add up such as the sound effect when entering dark places always popping up but they can mostly be ignore. I think the parkour is getting downgraded with each game as you can climb less and less on things you want and more on what they allow.

Really wanted to get indy on ps5 but the absence of reall pro upgrade and the 80$ price tag were huge hurdles, and i found a brand new shadows for 49.99$ at the video game store (first time a new game is cheaper here than on amazon).

Goddam i must have play 15 hours during the weekend.

Atmosphere is crazy, art direction is unparralleled, and the game, tho still an ubi-gameplay type experience has reached a level of refinement i rarely witnessed in a video game.

Really beautifully done.

I have reached 100 hours and I still haven't seen many parts of the world or finish the story. I have invested so many hours building my hideout, I love it. I will upload later some pictures I think I have a done a pretty decent job

Been playing for Hours and still no Yasuke🤔
The game lacks importance in it's mission structure, I remember in previous AC games(the older ones) when you took out someone of importance it was climax of sorts, maybe I haven't taken out anyone of that calibre yet, but it all seems so one and done, move on to the next.
Outside that...the story and acting are terrible, this isn't even EastEnders bad, it worse.
The original 6 AC games are like Christopher Nolan films in comparison.
The gameplay and graphics though are probably the best it's been in a very long time.
And Naoe is a joy to control, the parkour is much improved over the previous games to the point of maybe being on par with Unity..
Like all recent Ubi game, enjoyable but repetitive and a complete lack of progress or reward.
Still, I am enjoying myself.

Game can be mischievous in immersive mode.

Tracking down a student from Yasuke master quest, it says he is in North of Azuchi.

Guess where he is? West of Azuchi.

Man this game turns into an insane drag after the graphics stop wowing you.

I boot up the game, I'm near a shrine. Just prayed to three shrines at the temple after running around like an asshole looking for the shrines. Having white dots is a dumb UI move when the entire world is white of snow. Anyway, prayed three times, then there was a quest at the same temple where I had to pray at another three shrines in the same temple. And that pray animation takes forever and you can't speed up or cancel it either. Then a dude appeared that sent me on a wild goosechase and I just alt-F4'd. I just can't, man. Canceled my Ubi+ as well.

All this game has to offer is the most braindead quest design imaginable. Just an unbelievably barebones experience. Ubi clearly chose quantity over quality and that was a catastrophic mistake. This map could've been 75% smaller and the amount of quests 75% fewer and this would've been a focused banger. Now it's just an endlessly repetitive slog.

It is crazy how hard this game went off the cliff after that quite incredible first act. I'd rate it no more than a 4 or 5 at this point, whereas the first 10 or so hours were an easy 9.

RIP Shadows. Yasuke was the least of your problems after all.

Finished it last night.
Awful game.

Took around 60 hours, the first 5-8 are very good they feel fresh and different you've got this cool kill bill style revenge story. With the music etc.

But it looks like they forgot all that and fell back into their normal bullshit.

Hundreds of targets locked behind level blocks. Single hit kills on you if you get so much as a scratch on higher level enemies.

The main targets are often hidden behind an additional 4 missions or another side story that is mind numbingly boring.

The story is utter dross. I completely mirror other opinions in here. Especially on Yasuke, why is he in this game. They could have serviced his story so much better as a DLC or something. The content is pretty heavy and they slap it in there at the end like an add on like its almost nothing.

The game drags and drags and drags at the end its probably 20 hours too long and by the end you notice all the janky craonthat at first is fine cos its pretty but turns it very sour by the end.

Id give it a 5/10

They used 10's of thousands of dollars worth of equipment to calibrate the TV. They are one of the best in the business especially in the city I live in. To your point though, the tv looked pretty damn incredible before calibration which makes me wonder if it was worth it. They did use a laptop and installed "luts" into the tv. Not sure I'm explaining it properly but I'm a graphics whore like most here. I just want games looking their best especially after all the money spent on the tv, receiver, cables, etc.
If you want games to look at their best, your professional calibrator calibrated your TV in the wrong way. Just use the settings HDTVTEST use and HGIG is needed for gaming. That's how it is intended.

How many hours did it take you to realize you the game wasn't good? You finished the game so you had to have liked some of it. I would never complete a game if I found it awful in the slightest.

Honestly I really liked the first 8-10 hours then it dropped off slightly and became quite boring. Then as I played and wanted to finish it it really soured. The last 5 or 4 main targets are a real slog.

It like a series or movie or album.

If I start it and invest time and money into it. I want to at least finish it.

It's a mixed bag for me too. Loved the graphics and liked characters and parts of the story.
But quest design and open world activities were very repetitive and the story went nowhere at all

Plenty of people play bad games because it takes their mind off things.

This game is perfect if you want to shut your brain off and do some mindless nonsense for a couple of hours.

I had to turn back on the guided mode.

The amount of time I'm wasting looking for things is insanely making me want to quit the game.

There are a lot of small annoyances that add up such as the sound effect when entering dark places always popping up but they can mostly be ignore. I think the parkour is getting downgraded with each game as you can climb less and less on things you want and more on what they allow.

Aaaand done. The ending was....okay I guess. Guess they're moving on from real world shit, thank god, just a few dialogues with fuck knows who im guessing
isu? minerva tho she is dead?
but mostly irrelevant. My thoughts remain the same, parkour was certainly nerfed and kinda annoying a lot of times as the entire map is essentially a huge open world with linear roads and mountains and if you try to take shortcuts you're fucked. But loved the stealth, combat was decent, amazing atmosphere and visuals and Yasuke's story was clearly tacked on at the end as most of the cutscenes and dialogue were very...off...Im guessing there's DLC coming. I'll prolly play it.

Post-launch support is always good but I'm kinda losing my mind at them adding parkour movement as an update late May, two months after release.

Also no time skip option mentioned anywhere which is a big problem.

proper height gaining back and side ejects have actually been missing from AC for a looong time, people have been asking for these for years now; cool they are finally bringing them back.
