new Super Princess Peach pics

What has got me salivating is the fact that this looks like the hybrid between SMW and YI. Am I the only one with that impression? Plus the fact that I loved using Peach in SMB2 (with the floating and all) just adds to the aticipation.

Looks like Mario has been replaced.

You would have loved 1995, when everything on SNES looked like this.

You know nothing about sprites.

Yes, we were playing the 81-level Super Mario 3 when I was 9 years old, but how nice of Nintendo to finally indulge us 15 years later.

Yes, it went from TurboGrafX quality to SNES quality. In related news, the Bulls just won their first championship.

You know nothing about sprites. Stop posting please.

Yeah, I know. It's nice to finally have a new 2D side scroller coming out that's not 15-20 levels long. That's...why I'm excited. I'm 21, I've been gaming just as long as you have I'm sure. No need to act like a dick.

BTW, didn't Super Mario World have 91 levels? Been a while since I played through it all. Wonder how many levels New Super Mario Bros will have?

Goodness gracious. Who is it that said that standard 2D DS games might as well be on the GBA?

*backhand*

I still fail to see why this isn't on GBA. There is still nothing special about even the latest screens. Certainly nothing that hasn't been exceeded by several gba games.

Please play Yoshi's Island on ZSNES.

BTW, can someone post pics that are a higher resolution than 225 x 170? The DS's resolution can't be that small...can it?

Thank you.
Why play it on ZSNES when I have it on my SNES? :lol

I suppose Castlevania: DoS looks like an SNES game too, right?

SMW had 72 levels, and 96 "goals". Some of them were small, but most were decently big, about twice as big on average as SMB3.

Why play it on ZSNES when I have it on my SNES?

Your SNES runs at 1280 x 1024, 2x SAI rendering, allows instant save states, online play, and your games are free? Where can I obtain this device?

I dunno, I haven't been paying much attention to portables (I do plan to get a PSP eventually, though). I was under the impression that the DS was roughly N64 level in power, so why would this even be an issue? Lack of CD storage and screen resolution still make it inferior to consoles from that era, though. But but but...TWO screens.

You don't want to get me started. Trust me.

Thanks for wasting my time by posting a link within a link. And thanks also for clueing me in to the DS's resolution:

The DS (at 256X192) isn't THAT far from 320X240

Hmm, it's only 1.5 generations behind, soon to be 2.5. Whatever. Oh, and reusing sprites, even from a classic like SOTN, is never a good thing. Also, not having played the game, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the sound is not close to SOTN.

Anyway, this was just a reaction to people somehow going apeshit after seeing SCREENS of this game. I'm sure it will be fun, just concede that this is a game from 1992. I hear MC Hammer's latest single just topped the charts.

You can't be serious.

I'm just not following you here, and I think I'm not the only one. So is your point that this game isn't visually impressive, or are you complaining about DS's hardware? Can you not tell the difference between SNES and DS? How can you use ZSNES with anti-aliasing as an example for graphics from 1992? Also, people can go apeshit over screens for reasons other than graphics, you know. Notice all the comments about the game harkening back to Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island.

I agree that it doesn't look impressive. I like the graphics and style, but it doesn't impress me. However, you either have a problem with deciphering hardware differences, or you're just being blind, because these graphics are clearly above SNES.

Let's compare SNES, PS1, and DS castlevanias, shall we?

And here's a whole frickin gallery for the DS castlevania

So what do you think?

Not to mention the fact that SotN was one of the best looking PS1 games, period, and I'd say that there's quite a few games already shown for the DS that look significantly better than castlevania (Mario Kart, VJ, Magical Vacation 2, Children of Mana, to name a few)

Also, not having played the game, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the sound is not close to SOTN.

Wow. most moronic thing ever said. You admit you've never played the game, and then you go on to judge the sound quality?

LMAO.

I haevn't been keeping tabs on this game at all, but after seeing those screens, gimme, gimme, gimme, DS+1!

I've been in a classic platforming fix lately, and this looks incredible, first real "retro" platformer! that actually reminds me of stuff I played during my youth.

Looks like it re-uses the Yoshi's Island enemy sprites, but thats fine by me. More 2d Mario games with bright art styles Nintendo! (a paper mario platformer would essentially be perfect)

Nup. Although they look very similar, the Paratroopas are different. Their wings are strangely LONGER than those in YI.

Here are some comparison shots:

Super Mario World:

The art is really nice. This is a natural evolution of the Mario sidescroller look. I only wish Nintendo would make a true successor to the Mario 2-D platforming.

It somehow looks similar like the old super mario bros. 2, perhaps this game is going to be the continuation of the super mario bros. 2 games

You know, even though I was playing Yoshi's Island Advance just today, seeing it again in stills....that game is fucking gorgeous. Not only the best playing 2D platformer of all time, but the best looking too. I really, really want a proper sequel. (The six new levels in YIA are a start, but I haven't unlocked them yet wo who knows)

Edit: Just noticed the three Toad shadows in the upper right corner of the screens. Perhaps you have to save/find them in each level?

When did this become about Castlevania? I thought we were talking about this Princess Peach game, which, as shown the shots above, does NOT look as good as Yoshi's Island.

Not to mention the fact that SotN was one of the best looking PS1 games, period

...........

Are you serious? It's one of my favorite games ever, but...technically? No.

What game are we talking about? DoS looks pretty good for a DS game. But this Princess game doesn't even take advantage of the hardware. Maybe you're right about ZSNES being a bad example, it seems to improve the image quality to make everything look fucking terrific.

Here...I resized a couple of pics.

Seems pretty obvious what game he's talking about. I think I could guess why those games look better on that emulator, too.

why is everyone arguing over comparison shit? Can we please just get back to being excited at the oppurtunity to hit little dinosaurs with our brollies while playing as a princess? Jeez.

I don't get what the argument is really about...ZSNES with filters and stuff vs a DS game? Isn't that a little lopsided? Does it matter if one looks better than the other? SPP and Yoshi's Island look pretty similar in their quality, imo. Oh well.

wow. we're all feeling pretty passionate about this, aren't we?

For purity purposes, I got USB SNES converter so I can use my original SNES controller on the PC. That's the best $25 I've ever sent to China for a peripherial.

I hope/wonder if the Revolution will secretly be able to bump resolution and filter like ZSNES.

excitement! verdict for me: no matter what Princess Peach looks like, you, I, and all of us are probably going to play it. It doesn't look like much blown up the way it is or viewed in 72dpi on whatever monitors we are reading this forum with, but I'm sure it will look good on the DS/SP/GBplayer. Nintendo won't let flagship characters look bad. I expect them to stand and deliver.

Exactly what point are you trying to make with this example, that SNES has better emulators? :lol

I really fucking wish Nintendo had made new Mario platformers for the GBA, instead of the port madness that occurred. It seems absurd that only now we have 3d handhelds that a new 2d Mario game arrives.

And on the screenshot war, Peach looks good, but Yoshi's Island wins out through superb art direction and style. Its mainly why I was so disappointed in the 3d Mario games, as it went from this pastel/crayon coloured amazing vibrant world to a flat coloured castle and fairly dull to look at area's.

With next gen graphics, and especially Okami showing it's possible, I'd like to see this crayon/pastel effect applied to an entire Mario/Yoshi game, and bring back the vibrant worlds that used to make Nintendo games great.
