New 'X' trailer [Monolithsoft] shows uncut gameplay

Only when it's properly made. Like this cover of it:

The original is painful to listen to (when you understand German).

I've listened to this before. I don't understand German but I like the original better, though the cover is good too. I don't think the song works as well as it does without broken German. It's kind of like the Persona songs with broken English. I just don't think they'd work as well without that aspect to it and they'd definitely sound different when sung "properly" (the Blumenkranz cover sure does).

Basically I think there's some value to music that isn't sung properly. It creates a completely different sound and it can sound good. It probably still ends up bothering some people who understand the language the song is sung in, but I don't think the way they're sung is necessarily bad or wrong.

As Riki said, this being Monolith and knowing their previous games it would make no sense. They've always been about specifics, and a randomly generated world would be unlike them.

Please no. X is looking good but lets not taint gears with what this is shaping up to be. this is too much transformers and god eater and not enough kung fu and samurai to be a gears prequel. still intrigued by the title but i want to preserve my xenogears nostalgia glasses for a little longer.

also - is it the lighting or are all of the characters dressed in black costumes? was kinda hoping we'd get a colorful looking cast like blade.

I suppose they're all in the same uniform. I'd imagine that's just their default outfits though and we'll be able to equip different armour.
And who knows if we'll end up having party members of other races eventually.

Blasphemy!

Remember, Episode 1 would take place 15,000 years before Gears. It's about humans setting off from Earth into space and finding a new planet. The ONLY real direct relation it has to Gears is that the Deus System was developed during this time. Perfect Works even says this Episode is shrouded in mystery so not much is known. This would be a perfect setup.

Also, the original Abel/Fei and Elly weren't introduced into the overall story until Episode 2. Which takes place 5,000 years after Episode 1.

I would say it's way more similar to KotOR than Monster Hunter.

It's like KotOR with mechs.

Basically:

You have a move set. Every move has a cooldown. You can move and auto attack at all times.

Ok, I really need to get into this series now.

Guys, what if the planets were randomized? Anyone speculated about that?

God no. I really dislike randomized dungeons/worlds because their designs are usually really boring. You pass by identical rooms/areas nonstop. I'm currently playing Diablo 3 and while the combat can be fun, the level design is pretty poor. Visually, the game looks great, but when you enter a dungeon, it's just so drab because you see repeated rooms and hallways everywhere. I understand that it's nice for when you replay the game, but frankly, if a game has randomized worlds, I probably wouldn't want to replay it anyways.

Shame the colours are so dull, compared to Xenoblade. I'm sure they'll make it work though.

While I think X looks brilliant, I kind of agree with you. The Xenoblade areas were so much more colorful and "cartoony" which I loved. Really felt like a true fantasy world. Don't get me wrong, X still looks fantastic, but I feel like it's missing that same charm that Xenoblade had.

Rewatched the E3 trailer and looked at the screens. It's cool seeing the little changes between all three versions of the game. With less than 12 months now until the game releases (at least in Japan), I'm excited to see the final touches they add to the game, if any.

EDIT: I'm still surprised by all the 'this looks boring' statements, because it looked like a pretty standard RPG battle to me, but maybe I've been playing too much Chrono Trigger and FFXIV lately. This sort of fighting has been shown off more or less since the first teaser of the game, so I have no idea of what people were expecting. I guess it might be the difference between a trailer full of quick cuts and epic music as opposed to gameplay footage the reality of what actually playing the game will be like.

I'm a bit late to the party (because of a well-deserved ban), but I figured I'd share my thoughts on what I saw.

To be honest, like many others here I was pretty underwhelmed with what I saw. It didn't seem very exciting, which is very strange considering he got into a mech for a while and pulled out a huge gun. I think a lot of it might be the sound design. It didn't sound exciting.

And as many others have said, the HUD is atrocious.

All that being said, however, I'm still greatly looking forward to this game. I have faith in Monolith Soft to bring the goods to the table. Also, a lot of what made Xenoblade great was its world and its story/characters. We've yet to see much of any of that in X, so my hopes are still high.

EDIT: It's also very strange that we've known about this game for such a long time without it having an official name yet. I'm wondering if there's some big surprise in store concerning how this game relates to Xenoblade. There has to be a reason they're so willing to show off the game without it even having a name. They're not even referring to it as "X" anymore, but instead "Monolith Soft's new title."

Well, Nintendo never called it X. It was always just "A new title from Monolith Soft."
X is the name we gave it because of the huge Xenogears X from the first trailer.

What if this is...Xenogears 2?

*nerd voice* Well, technically, it would be Xenogears 1 since Xenogears (as we know it) was technically the fifth game in the series. *nerd voice*

We've actually speculated that X could be a re-imagining of Xenogears Episode 1 as it fits the plot laid out in the Perfect Works (the people of Earth try to colonize a new planet and start an intergalactic war).

I hope they fix the low level MMO quality side quests from xenoblade. Want to see some revolutionary game pad functionality too. The fact that I didn't see an English in game trailer. makes me think this game is not coming to NA in 2014.

Why would they make two different gameplay trailers for this of the exact same thing? No company does that.

Considering this is the only game Iwata didn't mention any sort of release timeframe at all for (not even 2014) I'm not confident it will be released anywhere this year. Unless he mentioned it in the Japanese (or European?) stream.

In the Japan stream they mentioned 2014. It's because of that that I hope it means the game is far enough along so they can have a proper reveal at E3.

I´m so stoked for this game !

Xenoblade was great, one of the few games that surprised on a technical level on the Wii (seriously, those level were huge !).

The battle system was cool too, so I´m fine with "X" having a similar system.

Footage was more or less what I expected, looking forward to playing it. Story wise I'd be surprised if they copied Phantasy Star Online's plot (new planet/colonization) when this title already draws a lot of parallels to said title (which is a prinary part of the reason I'm" buying it lol.) Hopefully Nintendo and/or Monolith Soft will start to deliver information at a faster rate if it does release this year. I'd love an extended no commentary gameplay video instead a few minute clip.

Would it really be copying PSO if they already had this story laid out nearly 20 years ago?

Given how long they've taken to name it, I do wonder if they're attempting to get the rights to Xenogears or Saga. Probably not, but who knows.
