Steam Hardware Survey:

1920 x 1080 - 65.55% <-- here's the "gold standard"
2560 x 1440 - 6.59%
3840 x 2160 - 2.24%

Yes, that is what the "master race" is playing at, and they call us peasants.

8K is nonsense. It's only there for the ignorant/gullible to buy new hardware.

I'm on 1080p myself because I personally think 27" is too big, but if you stripped out the casual gamers and poorer countries, I think you'd find 1440p is actually becoming the predominant size. I visit my PC shop quite regularly (it's the biggest one in Sydney) and they have a huge display room, and I've noticed over the last 12 months it's sharply changed from mainly 1080p displays to 1440p. Every time I go there the enthusiasts are opting for 1440p now. When I look at what people are testing, what people are walking out of the shop with...and even what's for sale. I've noticed the available mid to high end displays at 1080p are becoming harder and harder to get. I was recently looking for an IPS 1080p monitor with x and y and z features and I realised there was almost nothing for me to choose from...all the manufacturers had moved on from when I last bought a monitor (which was only 18 months ago). Things are moving fast.

EDIT: And if you want some hard evidence of this, look at the release slate for all the major manufacturers:

1080p / 24" is becoming a thing of the past. People like me are going to find it increasingly hard to stay on 1080p, cause my options are seriously dwindling. That page is quite scary to me, all the new features I want in a 1080p monitor are basically going straight to 1440p now. I'm basically down to scraps now in terms of the options I have.

Buy me Sony's $50-30K monitor then. And experts all agree that Sony TV's have the best color and picture accuracy, upscaling, and processors. Go fight them.

Yup, I'm also a Sony phone user since 2005, next Sony mirrorless camera and lenses, and car system, headsets, etc.

Future: Sony car.:messenger_smiling_hearts:

Gosh, you're such a fanboy. Welcome to my ignore list.

So true all this PC master race upgrades is like someone chasing his long shadow, while consoles players enjoying the games.
I only upgrade my pc when there is a breakthrough of tech. Raytracing to me is a breakthrough. So I pulled the trigger. I will happily wait for another breakthrough around 2023. we can ignore PCMR. they pay a premium price for content that are optimized by consoles. and they don't have a clue how inefficient the platform they game on really is.

Excuse my ignorance but has a DLSS-type AMD equivalent been announced in some form? For consoles and in turn any Third-Party game that's multi platform?

Doesn't 1440p DLSS2 look better than native 4K?

MS has show their MLSS, Direct ML, which will come to the DX12Ultimate

I believe he's going by the number ms provided which is 15 billion and using the rx 5700 xt transistor count of 10.7 to get there.

Of course, ms is including the 2 billion transistor zen 2 which is in both the ps5 and xsx. Plus all the ram and decompression hardware in the i/o.

The difference between Gpus is roughly 20% which is what the difference in transistors should be. So around 3 billion.
I don't know how much transistors the PS5 has but one thing I know, we can guess the size of the GPU portion of the PS5.

This site gives us the size of the ps4 GPU. https://www.extremetech.com/extreme...u-reveals-the-consoles-real-cpu-and-gpu-specs
Which is 88 mm sq.
Now according to Mark Cerny, the size of each CU in the PS5 GPU is roughly 62% larger than a PS4 CU. Thus, there is the equivalent of 58 PS4 CUs in the PS5.

Going by this information.
The size of a PS4 CU is: 88 mm sq. divided by 20 CUs = 4.4 mm sq.
The size of the GPU portion of the PS5: 4.4 mm sq. multiply by 58 CUs = 255.2 mm sq.
But this 255.2 mm sq. doesn't include the disable CUs which is probably 4 CUs.
So, 40 PS5 CUs + (40×(62%)) = 64.8 or 65 PS4 CUs, which = 286 mm sq.
This 286 mm sq. is only the GPU. It doesn't include the CPU or I/O.

Like Mark Cerny said, "It is a fairly sizable GPU."
This is just my speculation btw.

I'm also thinking WiFi6 and Bluetooth 5.1 are possibly for the PSVR2 wireless headset going by recent patents.
Yup, PS5 is the complete gaming package. Also could support WH-1000XM3 and XM4 with LDAC via Bluetooth 5.1. Would love to see that happening.

If it weren't for the fact that I'm not letting Zuckerberg any nearer to my personal information than the ass clown already is, I'd be strongly considering buying an Oculus Quest, just because it's wireless. I am really hoping that PSVR2 will be wireless. It certainly should be at this point.

If I don't need a Facebook login to plug that one optical wire into the PC to use it for PCVR games, I'm all over that Quest 2.

Hopefully it's just for their shitty store.

Maybe I'm dumb, but can someone enlighten me, how Xbox Live has over 100 million monthly active users, while Playstation Network has about the same and Steam 90?

They sold 70 million less consoles.

I have oculus quest. Well because it is again a breakthrough. I love it. But I think psvr2 is going to be better. get that 3d sound, haptic feedback integrated, use wifi6 to wirelessly transmit 4K graphics to the unit from ps5. The headset will be light and comfortable. The battery life will also be better. Everything is almost in place. Sony just need to wait a year for more ps5 and wifi6 adoption.

I dont understand the argument of numbers. We've seen what the PS4 has put out with 1.84 TFLOPS? UC4, HZD, TLoU2, GoW4 etc... What are these developers going to do with 10 TFLOPS?

I'd love to see Microsoft make use of their power advantage... but I just don't see it happening.

They haven't created anything substantial since OG XBOX. Holding onto a 'superficial tech lead' is weightless. GIVE ME SOMETHING.. With the amount of resources Microsoft has, that's absurd. Sea of Thieves and Ori is all they have to show.

Most pc players game on a GTX 1060. Master race my ass.
I have a 5700XT and don't feel superior to console gamers.

i said Bowen's but meant Bo-Hazem. I appreciate you and your great enthusiasm. You add to my excitement of PS5!

Don't let that cheap charlatan try and persuade you to follow him, you stick with me. once he has you in his clutches it's over.

He likes Crackdown 3, Thegreatwhiteshart and thinks phil spencer is too sexy for his shirt.

Stick with me you get Amanda Cerny, Demon souls and lots of :messenger_heart:

what are you going to do if the benchmarks tests not performing as you guys describing in your messages?

what are you going to do if your machine lose the benchmarks to the competition?

This is for XBOX and PS fans

Benchmarks are for BS console war fanboy crap.

Just buy what box you enjoy and dont worry about others trying to shit on your box to make themselves feel better about their purchase.

I don't think people are saying the XSX won't have advantages in some areas. The PS5 will have some advantages as well. And we should see that in the comparisons.

With that said I expect alot of people to try and argue whether the differences are significant or not.

I think it will only affect Xbox people tbh. Like the digital foundry guy said, On paper, they have a much more powerful machine, if they don't come out far ahead in benchmarks it's going to be a big problem for them.

They should start asking questions if it does reflect the difference in power.

for sony if they get close or parity with xbox in third party games it means one thing, Ps5 is a better-designed console that xbox.

Being ahead of xbox with that difference in power should not be possible if it is, well there is going to be some crying around here.

Counting everyone who logs into their MS account to play Minecraft(see: PC/PS/XB/IOS/Android/Mac)

This is the big thing that everyone is waiting to see from Digital Foundry. Microsoft have sold the XSX as being significantly more powerful than the PS5 and that the differences will be extremely noticeable. They have to prove that with the comparisons.

I definitely agree with him there. However I don't believe Sony was ever that talkative about their hardware.

The SSD expansion card being so expensive practically killed XSS. Its storage size is too low, and if you want to upgrade it, it will end upcosting more than a XSX.

This deal is getting worse all the time...

People at this time will take a console, any console that they can get. Which is why there are no PS5 or Series X to be found. Switch is also hard to find but Series S is readily available in multiple regions at $299? It is worrying. If MS had made more Series X stock instead of Series S stock they would have sold out like Playstation.

Before preorders I said clearly that XSX/XSS will not completely sell out it looks like I was right.

really? Do you have a link to MLSS demo?

Hardware requirements

DirectML requires a DirectX 12 capable device. Almost all commercially-available graphics cards released in the last several years support DirectX 12. Examples of compatible hardware include:

  • AMD GCN 1st Gen (Radeon HD 7000 series) and above
  • Intel Haswell (4th-gen core) HD Integrated Graphics and above
  • NVIDIA Kepler (GTX 600 series) and above
  • Qualcomm Adreno 600 and above
