Honest question: do most people really gives two fucks about BC? Or how many games from previous gens a next gen console can play?

This is why I find it so weird that Xbox are highlighting BC just a few weeks from launch, when they should be showcasing new games to get people to buy those XSSs that haven’t sold yet.

Well I like BC. There are a lot of good games I haven't played yet. I recently started with Yakuza 0 and want to move on to Yakuza Kawani 1 and 2 and I know I won't be finished until XSX comes out. I can just continue on XSX (at least I hope so).

Yeah this is pretty idiotic.

MS: "Hey, here's our next gen system, take it and test it!"

Also MS: "Also, no nextgen games pls, only last gen games. Just because."

MS: Hey Guys we want to get some info out about BC games this week!

Gaf: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Sony: Nothing

GAF: MUUUCHHH BETTER< WHAT A NEXT GEN FOCUS!

If they wrote this stuff on their website or said it in official statements, isn't this false advertisement territory?

If the 500 figure is real, that's not many, since it also includes og and 360. There were more than 600 of those alone that could be played on the One, so it's anybody's guess how the ratio would even be.

I dont understand tom warren here. if ms is testing those games then fine, let them. whats stopping you from putting your copy of games in the xsx?

I really dont understand why BC is so hard. these consoles are basically PCs now. that was the whole point of going with AMD GCN and x86 architectures. this should just work. no testing required. after all, you dont test PC games do you.

This has me worried about PS5 now. I hope MS clarifies this later today.
you should not. Sony never gave a decent retrocompatibility

Does people expect every single game to have been tested and confirmed working day 1 for ALL generations for Xbox?
I don’t personally.. but when you build a huge part of your marketing strategy around it and basically say it’ll play thousands of games from every Xbox generation, then it’s only got 500+... the fanboys are gonna be upset. Not to mention, you don’t even show new games running on it either.

"Over 500 games" is the marketing point for og xbox and 360 compatibility on the Xbox One consoles. They've already stated that "thousdands of titles" will be available at launch. One engadget reporter misstating something does not mean their intended launch with nearly full BC isn't true. Same way we have no idea what the PS5 BC is outside of Jim Ryan stating 99% of thousands of games work fine, so I take him at his word on that as well.

Im not fully understanding why there is so much shit being flung about at the moment. Just because Xbox Series X is first out the gate showing BC titles being demonstrated.

These are not optimised for the SSD, yet people are laughing how slow they are. Sekiro 1800p not stable 60fps. DOA6 was 40s vs 60 at 4k.

I have both on order PS5 and Xbox Series X, lots of talk about the PS5 will demolish these times - but they are BC, so i hope your right. But im not so sure it will be under 10 for all games. time will tell.

And just like that, my fear for BC has been realized. And I'm willing to bet those 0.8 seconds it took for Spider-Man to load was a fully re-worked version of the Spider-Man game, not mere BC in action (granted, we haven't yet seen the PS5 in action with BC games, but I'm willing to bet it'll be the same logic). Games which are not built from the ground up to take advantage of an SSD (like Ratchet and Demon's Souls on the PS5) will still take considerable time to load.

50 seconds for RDR2 ... what a fucking disappointment.

What you saw was the PS5 version of Spiderman, the one that will release alongside MM.

I say that everyone expecting sub second load times for old games out of the bat are setting themselves for disappointment. The game’s logic doesn’t know about the new I/O hardware so the CPU will handle everything at legacy frequencies (when not in boost mode of course).

because Microsoft said as much back in May.

With more than 100,000 hours of play testing already completed, thousands of games are already playable on Xbox Series X today, from the biggest blockbusters to cult classics and fan favorites. Many of us in Team Xbox play on the Xbox Series X daily as our primary console and switching between generations is seamless. By the time we launch this holiday, the team will have spent well over 200,000 hours ensuring your game library is ready for you to jump in immediately.

I think this is a mistake. The engadget writer is using the 500 number which MS themselves used for OG xbox BC.

X1 games should just work without needing any testing or patches. GCN has BC with RDNA.

Its coming, she just says day 1 support.

Either she doesnt have her numbers right or they have fallen behind getting games certified, either way its no big deal to me I dont buy new consoles to play 10 year old games but thats just me.

I am not most people, but I care. There are a number of PS4 games that I haven't played yet and I am waiting for the PS5 to come out and play them. It's like I can't really stand the "Jet Noise" of my PS4 Pro.

Ah well, there are a few games I’m looking forward to being able to play without frame rate drops and in better resolution, but they are few and far between.

This weird thing about needing a new console to run thousands of old games just seems so strange to me.

Just the top selling 100 games is enough.

They might say "we didn't say for sure!"
It’s our intent for all Xbox One games that do not require Kinect to play on Xbox Series X at the launch of the console.
Just makes some fanboys seem a bit foolish now though, if that 500-ish BC games claim is true, when they were saying PS5 only had 100 and Series X had full/all day one.

Yes, that's what Microsoft's PR has been saying for months. See:

"With more than 100,000 hours of play testing already completed, thousands of games are already playable on Xbox Series X today, from the biggest blockbusters to cult classics and fan favorites. Many of us in Team Xbox play on the Xbox Series X daily as our primary console and switching between generations is seamless. The hands on preview only having access to 500 games means there is a big disconnect between the PR and reality.

Well, I have a PS3 at home (well, technically 2: the Fat 60GB and a Slim). My son is not re-playing all the ratchet and clank from the PS3 era to freshen up, and he is enjoy the hell out of it: he is a late teen now and really get what is going on.

the question is: Where PS5 is hiding?

all vendor demos up to now. off course all hand picked.
You should start a popular Japanese YouTube channel.

Here's a next gen game on a PS5, enjoy.

It is the narrative.

This very forum blamed PS5 for have a list of games in BC and not all.

The same suspects are now saying it is fine for Xbox.

PS. IMO I don’t think expect anything from BC from neither side... I think it is a cool features to these that want it but Sony should not even waste time marketing it.

Yeah, I know it’s coming. Just making a point that when you’re saying it does all of these things (and then it doesn’t or it’s delayed) people will get upset. Just like them marketing around next-gen having all the frames and ray-tracing.. then DMC5 has to get patched for ray-tracing and so does Halo.. Not a good look to keep saying “those features are coming.” Makes you wonder what they’ve been doing and slightly lose a little faith in dev kits.

Actually we're saying she's wrong, her video is full of incorrect information. Jim Ryan has stated the PS5 has 99% testing on thousands of games and I believe him. Xbox has stated for months they'll have thousands of BC titles at launch and I believe them.

Sony will show non-optimized games too.

IMO MS marketing focus should be on something they have advantage like the supposed more powerful GPU.

They are right now marketing something that will probably look bad for them.

Yep.Been saying the same thing why do they keep showing this. When they know tehy are slower.

So uh who the feck is this and why should we believe it?

I rather watch her than all the xbox execs. She looks like a fun time gal. A bit of the Rose.Bet you she's fun.

So the Very symble MS used for marketing purppose no longer existe and the lack of it in reality is now the great excuse for disappointing load times?

I thought everything was optimized for Xbox?

Selling snake oil. The box is not next gen. It's a suped up 1X. Its built to play in the current model of how games are built. Its not next gen. PS5 & SSD- I/O. is like that moment when Sony brought CD & Nintendo stayed on cartridge. Its like Blueray vs HD disk. And xbox couldn't get Metal Gear & some games skipped their box.

No next gen footage 1 month from launch is looking spooky!!

Well, I’m reserving any judgement for now, because this could just be part of their overall marketing strategy.

It‘s a terrible marketing strategy in my book, but then Sony haven’t exactly set the world alight either.

However, no footage whatsoever of new games running on a console out in six weeks is incredibly foolish, and not exactly confidence inspiring.

I’m hoping they have a massive dump of new gameplay coming shortly. They certainly should have.

Which is not the end of the world. Since with the XSX you can have 4 games running simultaneously, and switching takes 4-5sec, does it really matter?
