LOL, 40 seconds to load RDR2

"bUt ItS nOt OpTiMiZeD"

Faster on a PC, which is also "not optimized".

What a fiasco.

Yeah this is what I find weird. We need to know more.
Because Forza Horizon 4 (game blessed FH5 with bigger map pls) does not even load at all on my gaming laptop. It just goes ahead, much faster than Seriex.
But Seriex should be better than that so yeah.
Optimise it Phil!

I don't get why Bo was banned? DF do present a bias towards XB, when it's their job to be an impartial review/comparison site. This is just a known thing, and furthermore it's blantant and easy to see.

To further add frustration onto that situation, then we have XB fans spouting DF crap from the rooftops and we here at GAF have to spent the next 3 pages disproving the stuff all over again.

So why was Bo banned again?

Didn't the OS for the PS4 only get finalized a few weeks before launch? We've seen plenty of trailers but with no UI...I wonder if perhaps the OS and interface is still being worked on and stablized? Then again, could just be a marketing thing and MS getting out in front of it. Who knows! :)
Yeah, and the OS sucked, same for Xbox. I would hope Sony used a lot of PS4 OS

Well, you can have a 1TB/s SSD, if your IO only supports 2GB/s, that's as much as you're gonna load. The Series X SSD supports 4.8GB/s, but looks like no game so far was shown loading faster than around 1.5GB/s, and we're talking compressed figures here.

It seems like they did fuck up something.

we see a lot of people using xbox series x and none from sony. The question is: Why sony didn't provide the PS5 to the media? what are they afraid of?

You seem like the type of person who was concern trolling that the PS5 didn’t even exist a week and a half ago before they announced the price and release date. Every step of the way people have been “concerned” that Sony “is hiding something” only to be proved wrong time and time again. It’s exhausting at this point. Why does Sony need to craft its marketing campaign to do everything on the EXACT same day, or even the EXACT week that Microsoft does theirs??

They are two different companies with two different strategies. If Sony shows their console sometime next month, and it’s amazing, what else can you be “concerned” about for Sony? I’m sure they are really scared and would value your strategic management expertise. It’s been a day, chill.

Before this it was: PS5 can’t run Assassins Creed at 4K 60 like Xbox, then it was Far Cry 6, then it was “Sony hasn’t announced the price cause it’s more expensive than the Xbox”, then it was getting delayed, then it was actually cutting production due to bad yields, then it was overheating, now they are utterly terrified, and they respond to this horror with their largest and one of their best targeted marketing campaigns of all time with no shortage of PS5 gameplay and information.

I am so behind... XBSX has a UI? I thought MS said it was going to share XB1's UI (although, that itself along with the XB Store just got a new UI...)

There's load time comparisons too? Where are these infos?

I hear that. Seems like Sony's always done the OS on a shoestring. Not sure why. I'm surprised that MS wouldn't have had that locked down sooner given that's what they do. Regardless, who knows... Just my guess for why we haven't seen stuff yet. That being said watch in the next day or so we get a flood...JUST to prove me wrong! :)

I think the quick resume feature for the xbox is by far their best feature, its a nice game-changer for players,

I really hope that it will be supported by a lot of developers, its a tangible difference that you can personally see or feel. Easy of use or quality of life improvement. I really like changes like that.

I believe this is an OS level thing. Meaning every game will have it if it's on the platform.

Sometimes i feel like i am the only one in this forum that have a logical thought...
Everybody expects sony to counter all the moves from microsoft ,bethesda acquisition, quick resume, hands on for the console, but they missing the big picture....
Sony doesnt need to do it........YET!!!!!!sony knows that the first batch of consoles will sold out from the fanboys no matter what.....do you think first 5 millions consoles does anything to the winner of this generation???
Sony awaits in the dark and when we are close to release it will unleash hell, because thats the time to strike, for the general masses not us,so when holidays will arrive the second batch of consoles will be sold out from the casuals again....

It doesn't work like that dude, so just because Microsoft show something and Sony don't therefore Sony are afraid or "not ready"? the same narrative was around earlier this year about the PS5 console and games and it shattered like glass in Sony's June event, both consoles will release in under 90 days. I'm sure both are "ready" and judging by the past couple of months Sony like to take their time, to the dismay of many including myself.

Is it just me... or is it incredibly ironic that the first hands-on stuff we get from the company touting “The World’s Most Powerful Console” is literally just showing last gen games with fast load times and quick resume?? Weren’t all the Xbox execs and fanboys talking about how the PS5 SSD is stupid because nobody cares if games load faster??

My prediction is Sony is doing their own thing (like they’ve been doing this whole time) and will have actual next-gen games running on PS5s once the NDAs drop.. They’re gonna continue to focus and SHOW real next-gen games—not 3-7 year old titles loading faster for a first hands-on video.....

They have a new UI for both Series and One. And GamePass PC app too. So a cross-platform UI with a common design languages.
Makes sense, not very exciting imho but it's probably their best UI yet anyway.

Man, if the SSD in the PS5 also has more than 100 GB reserved for its OS and other stuff, then we’re left with… what, 700GB? Less? And the actual available space is usually less than the officially stated size of hard drives anyway, even without OS reservations. For all we know we might end up with 600-650 GB that we can actually use. That’s going to be pretty tight. Would be better if the PS5 had a separate piece of internal flash memory, reserved exclusively for the OS.

it would be nice if you would draw the right conclusions
This just mean, that IO is no longer relevant.
The guy in this video actually shows that

The external SSD can also load BC games as fast as the internal SSD, just because IO is no longer the bottleneck. This won't change with PS5 for BC games. The problem for BC games is now the CPU. And guess what the PC in the Video has (I can tell you without viewing it), the PC has a faster CPU.

btw, in your video Dodkrake Dodkrake :
i7-8700 CPU,
1920 x 1080, 60Hz ... so I guess not even the 4k assets of the game.

I think the problem is that most of the devs are working from home getting their games ready for launch on 7 different platforms. Its crunch time and no one time to create demos for anything. thats the reason why you havent seen any footage of watch dogs, ass creed, cyberpunk and any other big aaa game running on next gen consoles right now. i think COD is the only one that got a demo running on a ps5 but its cod and they can afford to have demos.

Now of course, if sony can send out ps5s with watch dogs, cyberpunk and ass creed ps5 demos then yes its time to start getting worried, but i highly doubt thats going to happen.

rest assured the consoles are powerful enough to run these games at high framerates and resolutions.

I can see this happening, multiple reveals and events covering backwards compatibility, a full preview of the console UI and its new features. Preview of the SSD and the insane load times on both current and next-gen titles. Hardware breakdown of the console showing the cooling system and it's capabilities (I'm hoping it's whisper quiet) and an overview of the APU.

Publisher are who give access to games, not console manufacturers.

Microsoft as a publisher doesn't exactly have big launch games to give access to even if they were ready to go, which many wouldn't be.. games should be going Gold in the next couple weeks though... but they probably will have review embargos.

Not seeing anything next-gen running on XSX sucks though at this point.. gotta be something wrong at this point IMO, but likely just some software finalizing.

He knows what he's doing, and he doesn't even bother to try to hide it. That or he's 12, and there is no point in arguing anyway.

Unless you like to waste your time talking to brick walls, just put him on ignore.

Yeah people think game loading is all I/O and it absolutely isn't for a lot of games.

Some games are almost all I/O though and don't do a lot of calculations.. gonna vary per game. However this gen CPUs are a LOT faster than last-gens.. so that should also improve.

However I also wonder if something is up with XSX I/O too... or at least for BC maybe they haven't or can't run it through VE or something.. I dunno.

It’s 2.4GBs. The 4.8 is also compressed.. The game has to use the newer decompression stuff with their velocity architecture. Whereas PS5 is 5.5 raw with even more custom IO tweaks.

Just catching up on all of this, and those load times are hideous.

All this time we’ve been touted this SSD like it’s going to be lightning fast, and these are the load times on last gen games??

Any way you cut it, it’s awful.

You can make all the counter arguments you want to, but there’s no way in hell anyone was expecting loading times of that length.

If the Ps5 is similar, all of us deserve to be both disappointed and angry to have been fed such bullshit for months.

Edit... and come the fuck on... no new games? Nothing on the XSX that isn’t last gen?

Six weeks until the console is out. Still No gameplay footage of any games. WTH?

it will not because thety gonna cherry pick the back compatibility games available.

Quick Resume is an awesome feature and the way it works seamlessly between three games is definitely a huge thing.

What's the point of reviewing a console without a new next gen exclusive game?

there is embargo so they we simply don’t know if these guys will get hands on experience with next gen games, we might get some more info next week (I am guessing that we will see weekly updates till launch)

imo it's best to wait it plays next gen games to judge , no ?
of course it is....

I thought the same but if I post they will call me fanboy.

From these that says the PS4 Pro is a Jet Engine is when playing heavy intensive games... not PS2 to PS4 games.

Edit - Fixed quote.

Ok, again. The IO performance of the series x is not even touched. That shows the video of the ~500Mb/s external SSD above.
Old games load compressed packets into memory. PS5 won't change that for old games. Those packets than must get decompressed by various decompression algorithms on the CPU (not the fixed function hardware the new consoles have). And now here is the bottleneck. The new CPUs are much faster than those from the current gen, but not that much faster. So for loading the old packets, the CPU is no the bottleneck instead of the IO. You could also see that by using an SSD with the xbox one (x) or PS4. The way faster IO of the external/internal SSD was not even touched even there the CPU were the limiting factor.
I really expect the loading speed for BC games on the PS4 to be more or less the same. The CPU should be on full speed (at least in boost mode) and the IO of the even faster SSD won't do much more. You can already see that in that video. Internal SSD of the xbox series x 10.11s, external (that is at least limited by the USB connection to around 500MB/s) 10.77s. So at best, PS5 BC loading times get 0.5s better.
