Higher bandwidth and cheaper price vs the competition if you can get one.
The cx has slightly better motion but I don't really notice the motion issues anymore.

I think the LG C9 and CX OLEDs are both 12 bit color panels. But the CX has a 40 Gb/s HDMI 2.1 port cap (unlike the C9 w/ 48) so it cannot display 2160p @ 120 Hz HDR video with 12 bit color at RGB 4:4:4.
Not a huge issue tho. Both seem great.

They are not. They are both 10 bit panels, that's why the capped bandwidth is a non issue

Oh well they still accept 12 bit signals. The PS5 can send the LG CX a 12 bit color HDR 4K @ 60 Hz RGB signal.
Maybe the panel is only 10 bit, but I imagine the 12 bit signal input being fed to the image processor could at least help with less color banding.

It’s not randomized. The LoD of Xbox is static and the same as PC at highest setting, PS5 has just higher level of details compared to both. Some kind of SSD streaming benefits I guess!

Sounded to me like the excuse Phil wants to use to keep his job if/when this gen is yet another where Xbox doesn’t grab a lot of market share from Sony/Nintendo.
He’s talking about tribalism like it’s out of his hands.
He’s tried to buy impact with power, old games, cheap-ass rentals, buying studios, launching multiple console skus and being down with “da gamers”.
The only thing he hasn’t done is actually produce games people want to play consistently. All that other stuff is horeshit. Xbone was ignored due to lack of games and Xsex will go the same way.
Trying to say it’s tribalism and “he has respect for all teams that put out content” is just trying to pin the blame for his and MS failure on something outside their control when it clearly isn’t.
You have to be able to put out content - for many reasons MS just aren’t doing that. It’s the quality of content experience that generates the tribalism - people don’t just “choose to be tribal” because of the side of the bed they rolled out of that day.

HDMI 2.1 = I would consider if it is worth of waiting for months/years. VRR is nice, but I would not count it as essential feature, gaming have been fine with current non-VRR TVs for years. Maybe if gamer is super sensitive for fps drops, but I have read that VRR on some TVs (LG i think) can still feel bit "laggy" vs locked 60fps @ 60Hz
My current Sony is 2014 1080p model, still working perfectly and image quality is "ok", so I could probably use it another 6 years if I wanted to
But now Sony A8H (A85) 55" oled got price drop because of black week, from 1899€ -> 1299€ (~1500$) aka lowest it have dropped on EU, includes 22-24% VAT.
I considered that it lacks 2.1 and probably wont get it (some rumors out there about update but I dont think it happens). But it have eARC and Sonys own similar feature that on 2.1 changes TV to game mode / movie mode depending what you are doing on PS5.
Another option would have been waiting for next gen of Sony oled 2021 to get VRR.. But it would have meant that it would drop to ~1300€ range after 12 months again(counting from now) So, is it worth it to wait another year or get top quality image now? I dont think so.
LG would have had 2.1, but I dont like their quality/brand, LG is cheap brand like samsung(which is even lower quality), at least to me / here. And 55" LG would have been same 1299€ so easy choise to get top quality Sony.
Third option would have been Sony A900H (AH90), which is around 899€ but deep black levels are thing I like the most and If I would get that one, I would use it again for 6-7 years so no OLED anytimes soon. So not worth it to just to get VRR.
Just to point out that hdmi 2.1 isnt that big of a deal, if it means 12+ months of waiting. Of course for rich people it doesnt matter, and if users current TV is modern enough, then it is easier to wait for another year for sales

Yep it's pre-emptive damage control for being heavily outsold I'm guessing at least 2:1 at launch. As I think the truth is MS manufactured much more conservative numbers in line with XB1 launch whereas Sony planned to make much more, then increased inventory further still after they saw they could hit a home run due to Covid.
I think he's finally feeling the pressure as MS finally caved and backed Xbox with $7.5bn acquisition, so he has to deliver now, no more excuses. Problem is looking at the respective first party outputs and Xbox multiplat performance this first 6 months to a year, it's going to be very tough for him to maintain that poker face! He can't deliver for a good while.

The dominance that DirectX has over PC is what allows them to pull this kind of marketing off. By coupling RDNA2 frontend to DirectX so tightly, it's easy to make this kind of claims, and confuse people about hardware capability.
